PSA: TechFast Poor Quality PC Builds (Double Check Your System CPU)

Brought a mATX system from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/902910

Got the delivery 26th May 2025, plugged it in to install windows notices the fan was really loud thought that it was weird went to BIOS to check its was running at 80+ degrees got onto my main desktop and check the temperature when in idle in BIOS 40 degrees bloody something is definitely wrong.

Pull apart the PC and check the CPU Fan ………. what you do know the CPU fan heatsink is not bloody touching the CPU, my god if someone that has zero PC knowledge the CPU would have burnt out!

Please everyone that buys from this mob check your PC with HWinfo and make sure everything is working right, Do not believe these quality control test messages that they send by SMS or email its a load of crap.

    what you do know the CPU fan is not bloody touching the CPU

    i assume you mean that none of the screws of the heatsink were in, but that would be hard to miss once you put the pc upright.

    my god if someone that has zero PC knowledge the CPU would have burnt out!

      They'll be no damage to CPU? The fan and the thermal paste wasn't even touching/connected to the CPU

        All modern CPU's have thermal protection systems, basically temperature diodes in the CPU measure and send a signal to the motherboard (to reduce clock speed) so that it stays below a certain temperature (usually close to 100 degrees is the point where the CPU nerfs the clock speed). Two safeguards, namely #PROCHOT and #THERMTRIP prevents your CPU from going over it's safe operating limits. The former slows your CPU down and the latter just powers off your system if it exceeds the temp limits.

        It's unlikely that a processor would get damaged from overheating, due to the operational safeguards in place. Processors have two modes of thermal protection, throttling and automatic shutdown. When a core exceeds the set throttle temperature, it will reduce power to maintain a safe temperature level. The throttle temperature can vary by processor and BIOS settings. If the processor is unable to maintain a safe operating temperature through throttling actions, it will automatically shut down to prevent permanent damage.

        It's okay for the CPU to hit 100 degrees for short periods of time. Like 30 minutes of 100 deg is not an issue, but if it was hitting that for extended periods of hours then yes you may cause damage. I would say you are on the safe side due to thermal protection.

        I would just remount the cooler and do up the cabling because that looks like an untrained intern built your PC after having one too many VB's.

    • Looks like this one's pushpins, how could it be that far away yet secure enough not to end up flying around the case during transport. Lucky that wasn't the case, otherwise CPU might be ok but all the other components would have been damaged.

    More horrified by that wiring, than CPU heatsink not being connected.

      I had early 90s PC flashback PTSD with that multicoloured wiring mess. FFS that is horrible.

  • I laughed. Would have loved to see your face at the time of the pic. Don't worry, CPU's throttle at high temps. They do not burn out anymore.

      I think its because of the cheap PSU that comes with god awful amount of wiring they have nowhere else to stuff it so they push it all in the front.

    How is the fan supposed to rotate if it is touching the CPU? Come on mate, you should know better than that.

    In your rant, if you replace 'CPU fan' with 'heatsink' or 'CPU cooler' it would be all sweet.

    The TechFast guy that installed the CPU cooler must have been quite skilled. To have it not touch the thermal paste, but still be held to the motherboard through shipping, well that is something. You must have paid extra for that one.

      I too am amazed how that cooler wasn't tumbling around in there during transport..

  • That looks like an Intel stock cooler. They’re crap, and the pins come out. Hard to lock in, too. I’d always upgrade to a better one.

      I mean this cooler hasn’t even touched the CPU, that thermal paste is pristine.

    Yeah I realised Techfast do zero QA when I got my 14th gen i9 build (and experienced all the issues associated with that CPU on an outdated BIOS).

    They were cheaper than building my own tho lol.

      Yeah cheaper but at what price? Now I'll have to send it back and wait a while. Already took them 28 days to get the order.

        Give them the choice, fix it and ship it within three days of receipt, or refund your money due to a major fault under ACL. Or if you want the refund outcome go straight for that.

    Usually threads like this don't gain much traction heaps of people still upvote the techfast deals and if you mention the poor build quality / low quality parts, you'll get downvoted into oblivion

    I ordered one years ago around 2020 and had the same experience.

    Though I have to give them credit for one positive, I requested a full refund and they paid for return shipping and gave the full refund about 2 weeks after the pc was returned, so no loss overall, just around 3 months without a pc.

      Yeah rubbish "testing" swear they do this so that they can extend out the processing time before it's sent.

      It ran away into the abyss, because of all the criticism about the cables.

    Nebula PC all the way, i've convinced a few friends to buy a rig from there and build quality and service has been outstanding

        Depends on your budget, would probably choose something with the latest ryzen chipset and also pick a GOLD rated PSU if it already doesn't have one in the build

      Agree! Bought a cheap Nebula build for my partner and it was very well built and tidy. Heaps of in case padding for transport too and well packaged.
