Who in their right mind would buy an 80w subwoofer?

    • you need to spend more then. this also has premium features such as App and EQ, I don't think I've seen something this cheap before with App EQ.

also people always focus on power but isn't this the important part? MAX ACOUSTIC OUTPUT: 103.7dB

is that loud enough? I'm not an expert. I thought 103dB will be enough for a bedroom.

    • the $1k Kef product does Max output 111dB btw. https://au.kef.com/products/kube-10-mie-subwoofer

      • +3

For every 3dB increase the relative volume is doubled. So the KEF sub at 111dB is actually 2.7x louder than the Klipsch. That is a huge difference!

ok lots of complaining but not much suggesting. I thought you were interested in a subwoofer which is why my helpful comment is above.

please link to $400 subwoofer with more power and App EQ please. 🙏

if you know about these things then you must know they aren't cheap. I previously saw a $2k subwoofer deals. many mentioning the app was a big reason.

@n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: The only place you might find a decent subwoofer for $400 is 2nd hand on marketplace. Otherwise just save your $400.

There aren't any good ones, that's the point. Not this one, not any others. It's pretty simple stuff.

            • @mickeyjuiceman: there aren't any good ones ok. thanks for answering.

not sure why so much fine taste in consumer electronics. as you said it's pretty simple stuff it's just a speaker.

all I have is bluetooth speakers pretty sure this would blow my socks off but I'm not buying for $400 is way over my budget.

even the Edifier T5 is pretty expensive, when the MR3 speakers are only $135. it's people with small speakers that need a subwoofer. if you are rich and have big speakers you probably don't need one anyway (placebo).

I noticed those cheap Edifier speakers were pretty popular, so I thought the T5 would be within people's budget. also remembered the $1k subwoofer post and previous $2k subwoofer post. I thought one posted for $400 would go well guess I was wrong.

@n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: why do you even need an app for a subwoofer :O

            • +2

@bazingaa: You don't need an app necessarily, but with most setups you'll benefit a lot from being able to EQ your subs (and ideally your mains too).
Assuming you don't have dedicated hardware for it, or a source/amp capable of DSP then the best bet is a sub with built in EQ controls - app is a pretty convenient way to handle this.

              • @Srey: Oh! I have never come across such setups; perhaps there is a certain market for these, driven by a new trend with sound bars, etc., that don't have any controls and pass the signal through to the subwoofer. Otherwise, you can find cheap AVRs in the marketplace.

                • +1

@bazingaa: Yeah I've never really thought about what's driving it, but I'd guess a substantial part would be the availability of relatively low cost, easy to use DSP solutions that manufacturers can now integrate into subs. Even just moving the interface to an app on a linked mobile device is a huge jump in simplifying what it takes to implement the EQ.

They're definitely a boon for lots of 2ch setups where the amp doesn't provide DSP, and even for entry level AVRs, which are going to lack the filter resolution in their room EQ setups to properly address the sub's response.

              • @Srey: hey srey and bazinga,

I just watched a few more videos on this soundbar/sub combo and a few showed what the app looked like.

looks like the opinion of another comment that marketing is strong with this product is correct. even though it says "Custom EQ" with details on the actual subwoofer page (I linked and quoted it in the post) what I saw is so basic it just shows three sliders Bass, Mid, and High.

tbh I could be wrong and maybe there is already an app update which allows for better EQ. but in the video the EQ looked so basic my opinion on the EQ function has changed. it's not what the marketing makes it sound like.

also the Flexus 300 Soundbar claims to have "Dirac" auto sound calibration optimiser for perfect sound in the room (you can think of it as a Auto EQ). but that probably won't work with just the subwoofer, because it says Dirac needs to use a Mic, which pretty sure is in the soundbar. I don't think they would put a mic in the subwoofer doesn't make sense.

                • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: No idea about this sub, or the Flexus soundbar, but if it supports Dirac I imagine it has the ability to EQ connected subs too, so long as the device supports the full bandwidth Dirac license.

FYI, the mic probably isn't in the soundbar. Dirac (like most room correction solutions) use a separate mic that's plugged into either the device itself or, in the case of Dirac, a computer that runs the software. You position the mic around the listening space, run the calibration and then the correction curves are loaded into the device for use by the DSP.

                  • @Srey: yes I agree it will EQ the subwoofer too, but I think you will need both soundbar and subwoofer to do the Dirac.

they probably keep the most premium features (like Dirac auto EQ) for the loyal customers who buy both. companies often do this they won't give you every single claimed feature if you buy the cheapest item (subwoofer), they software block it.

edit: ok my bad I linked to the Flexus 200 info. Flexus Core 300 says mic included in box. so it comes with soundbar probably only able to Dirac with soundbar purchase.

                • +1

@n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: The calibration mic has to be at the listening position; it does not make sense to measure it at the soundbar position.

    • You can get 80w tweeters lmao

    • honestly i've used an earlier version of this

For the price..it's VERY VERY good..

i had it paired with monitor silver speakers and carried it's weight

sure..it's not Class D or a massive thing..

but for a standard home set up u can do worse

  • -1

what is the good soundbar goes with this ??

  • +6

Better off getting something off market place

  • aw dam tough crowd. 😭 less good deal votes than the $1k Kef subwoofer deal.

I guess nobody buying this then. 🙇‍♀️

    • +1

Sealed 80w RMS is not going to cut it, it's seriously under powered. Marketing is strong on this product. Weight is 9.4kg, not 18kg as mentioned on HN website.

This is a total waste of space.

      • +1

Yep, need something decent like this one..

Marketing is strong on this product.

I just realised after watching more videos, in the picture what you see isn't the speaker it's a protective cover that's not removable.
so they are literally hiding the speaker which makes me suspicous.

Weight is 9.4kg, not 18kg as mentioned on HN

I thought the heavier HN info was more accurate, because they charge $49 to ship it (that's a lot). but maybe not. saw in a video like above, guy was throwing it into the air and catching it like a dad does to a baby. honestly dumb reviewer don't think that's good for the speaker but anyway.

  • Got this 12 inch Polk for $585 last year, about $670 now. Very happy with it.

I've added a 10" subwoofer to my Edifer R1855DBs from the sub out, the Klipsch would be a good pairing but as stated people basically give away low powered subwoofers on marketplace.

$50-$100 should buy something similar I should imagine.

  • +1

you can get used but good AV equipment, like from marketplace.
I got an Onkyo SKW-409 12" 125W subwoofer for $60 or $80, can't remember exactly. It is in great condition and I am using it like 25% volume due to rattling everything lol. I have Yamaha AVR + 5 speakers which I got for $140 with this.

  • I'm planning to delete this post. just wanted to give others a chance to discuss but seems pretty dead now.

so uh yeah got duped by marketing again. seems like this list on the subwoofer page.

With the Klipsch Connect Plus app

    - EQ presets or your own custom EQ mix

    - Night Mode

    - Dialogue Boost

    - Volume control

    - And more to come

is really taking advantage by combining all possible features from the Soundbar + Subwoofer combo pack, and listing them as features of the subwoofer.
when seems to me, that there are many things that are only available if you have the Flexus Core 300 soundbar, from what I see in the app in videos.

without the fully Custom EQ function, or Dirac auto room EQ function on the subwoofer by itself I think there is much less value in the product.
