  • Has anyone got one of these? Looking for a cheap smart TV for a beach house

    • bought one before covid. watch youtube everyday and still going strong.

      • Thanks! The OS seems snappy enough running Netflix etc?

      • +2

I wish I bought a beach house before covid

    • I bought it when it was $629(?) a couple months ago.

I use a Google TV stick so I'm not sure about the OS but the backlight bleed on black screens is pretty bad. Not sure if I have a bad unit or it's just the way it is.

I turned the brightness down to about 50% and it's improved a bit (still not amazing).

I bought it during COVID lockdowns. Still going strong. It's a 3rd screen at our home. It's perfectly fine for any kind of streaming.
I also paid $600 for it, so, considering the inflation, it's now cheaper than 3.5 yrs ago.

    • Yes went well for 1.5 years and then completely died. Like it tripped my power out and it then was dead as disco. They honored the warranty after much persistence but it was deemed unfixable. I got a 80% refund. TV repair guy said not to touch them as its a common fault. something to do with ramping up the amount of power they allow in the board to make them brighter. This could be a different model etc etc.

      • Turn the backlight down on any TV. Basically will last forever. Never had a TV die on me yet.

    • I've got one in my deck. Works great it's been 2 years and had no issues. Web OS is not that great but if you gonna use it for ott platforms then works fine else plug in a google tv - chromecast

  • If you don't use the built-in software, it's a decent TV.

    • Not a fan of webOS in general, or is this TV particularly underpowered?

      • All Bauhns are underpowered. Which is to be expected at this price.

        • I had an odd experience with an underpowered Kogan Android TV. Was OK out of the box, then after a year or so there was a firmware upgrade which improved the speed and responsiveness considerably. Then later another firmware upgrade which made it unusable (so now I just use an Apple TV)

      Dreaming?

      • People think it is not a good tv because it is not a famous brand but mine is 5 years old and works fine.

You should buy two 4K TVs. One for each eye. That's the only "8K" you'll get from Aldi.

          • +3

            @heef: 8K = 4x 4K resolution

            • -1

@HomeAlone: Tis a joke but yes you are correct.

              • -2

@heef: You got served. Stop spreading incorrect information.

            • @HomeAlone: is correct.

8K TV is four times more detailed than a 4K TV because it has four times the number of pixels.

8K resolution, which is 7680 x 4320 pixels, doubles both the horizontal and vertical resolution compared to 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels), resulting in a fourfold increase in pixel count

    • crikey, how many bevvy have you had for that rant so early in the week?

I wouldnt trust Bauhn tv's tbh. They use to sell them at Bing Lee, JB etc but we stopped selling them due to the incredibly high return/failure rates on them. It was to the point that Sales staff would warn the customer that their QA was not great and it was buy at your own risk/inconvenience of going through the warranty procedure.

    • +1

I think you're confusing Bauhn with another brand. From their website "Bauhn products are sold exclusively through ALDI stores"

      • -1

Probably says that because, as the original commentator said, everyone else refused to continue stocking them…

I will admit my mess up; i mistook Bauhn for Blaupunkt. Apologies

      Bauhn is an Aldi brand.

You must be confusing it with Soniq?

        • +1

          JB still sells Blaupunkt TV's.

The brand that they stopped selling is Soniq.

        • +1

Like many other managed brand names, Blaupunkt was high-end back in its day, making car stereos in Germany. Now it's just a brand slapped on cheap Chinese electronics.

  • Bought one before COVID and it's still working. However while watching movie from streamio is so dark that sometimes I don't see anything. Is it streamio thing or the TV gets older ?

  • Do they have delivery?

I can't fit this gargantuan thing into my car.

  • They must be trying to price match the Good Guys.
Anyones thoughts on Linsar vs Bauhn?

$599 for a 70 bedroom tv seems dirt cheap. Good Guys Chat has offered it for $570, delivery is $59 though.

ALDIs always offer this 70” TV for around $600 but seems to be on and off, but convenient timing with the Linsar offering. Spec for spec they look pretty identical. Linsar comes with 3 year manufacturer warranty whereas Bauhn comes with 1. TGG offer delivery whereas ALDI does not.
