    I think this kind, with 2000 watts not even stabilised with an oil reservoir, are the least efficient of all.
    Cheap to buy but it will do very nasty things to your power bill

          Split system doesn't even directly produce heat with the electricity it uses, it merely pumps heat in from the outside air. This Goldair unit is 100% efficient at turning electricity into heat 💪🏼

      Its not rocket science, just physics.

      I like oil heaters because the risidual heat lasts longer, that doesnt make them more efficient because they take longer to warm up.

    • All resistive heaters (convection, panel, fans, oil filled, whatever) are 100% efficient - efficiency has nothing to with the type or the cost. And all will do nasty things to your power bill if they have enough wattage to keep you warm.

      A watt is a watt whether it is in the form of heat or electricity. The only advantage of oil filled radiators is that they are safer around kids and pets as no single part gets hot enough to burn someone.

        • when the moving air slows down it releases the kinetic energy as heat.

          unless you have a door open any basic heater is 100% efficient.

      A few years ago someone here was surprised when their electricity bill went up ~$1k after buying a heater so yeah I do think it's a necessary warning for some.

    • I think so, a lot of people aren’t obsessive about power usage. I think not understand just how much these can use is common. These could easily double the power bill in my small place, most other devices aren’t like that

      • People are obsessive about the cost of their power usage but care very little about understanding how they got there.

        Unfortunately, this lack of understanding generally leads to people harming their health by not adequately heating their homes in winter. Many have very efficient heat pumps in their homes but choose not to use them. Some even use small, inefficient heaters like these instead. They simply think smaller=cheaper.

          These heat up constantly. Oil heaters generate lots of heat once they're up to temp and only heat up more when the temp drops.

            The oil heater still only puts 1KW of heat into the room for every 1KW of electricity consumed. Exactly the same as the non oil filled heater.

    If you can, get electric blankets or heated mattress toppers for use in the bedroom. Saves a lot of electricity and doesn't dry your skin out either.

      It's worth noting that heat pumps don't dry air. The drying effect is from the movement of hot air.

    I got a similar (but more powerful) one from Amazon at same price a while ago. Power hungry but good for those who have a so called free window of electricity in the day. We have 5 heaters that all go on during this time totalling 10.8kw.
