$4,000 Cashback on in-Stock BYD Sealion 6 Essential & Premium Models @ BYD

1670

This has been an open secret on Whirlpool and FB groups but it now looks like BYD have finally put the deal up on their website.

$4k cashback, delivery by 31 July, cannot be combined with the finance/novated lease offers.

Anecdotally, reports of cashback also being received on other PHEVs (ie Shark 6) - possibly a cash sweetener from BYD to offset the drop in sales post-FBT exemption end.

This offer is available exclusively to retail customers who take delivery of an in-stock Sealion 6 Essential, Sealion 6 Premium, and who do not finance the purchase of the vehicle in whole or part with any Allied Finance product. BYD Automotive cannot guarantee the delivery of any vehicle within the Promotion Period. The following customers are also not eligible to participate in the $4,000 Cashback Campaign:

  • Fleet customers
  • Demonstrator vehicles
  • Novated Lease customers who have received a 4% discount
  • Any transactions involving additional promotional offers or discounts.

        • Your last two points and your last comment trump everything else you said.

Love him or hate him, Musk made Tesla work and started the EV industry.

The BYD CEO is a friend of the CCP leader while Musk is a friend of the US leader (🍊🤡).

Most EVs depreciate like Maseratis, but you'll rue the day you try to sell a BYD. On the way you'll get to watch a 10K discount for everyone else.

          • @Big L: (profanity) Musk

My EV is from a novated lease, saving me 20k in 5 years (otherwise I'd be getting a hybrid), I plan on selling the car after 10 years, so even if it's worthless, it's fine. BYDs have better resale value than Teslas according to Carsales so there's that as well.

Again, (profanity) Musk and the US president that supports genocide in Palestine and cracks down on free speech worldwide on anyone that's critical of the zion-ist state - there is no moral high ground anymore my friend, 1M+ innocents killed in Iraq, they are all bloody murderers, and I say that as a Christian Conservative.

If I have to choose between Communists and Fascists, I will get the better car, which happens to be the cheaper as well.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Yes, Musk is a turd of biblical proportions. That doesn't make any other manufacturer pious though.

But thanks for admitting that your opinion has little to do with Tesla or BYD capabilities. Your argument for the perceived value is redundant; the losses will be due to advances from BYD and cars we haven't seen yet.

It's a sad state for all of us when the crappy cars we're driving supposedly reflects our morality.

              • +1

@Big L: on the contrary, read again, my whole point is that both sides are shit, there is no moral high ground

and since both are shit, and there are no manufacturers with clean hands, and since I need a 2nd car, I am forced to buy something

so I'm choosing the better product, irrespective of the manufacturer's conduct, it just didn't happen to be the Tesla…

and by the same token I don't judge anyone driving anything, Tesla, VW, Chinese, Japanese, whatever

        • The little Aussie battler emerges.

        • +2

          Geezus what a precious list.
No buttons. I suppose you have heaps on your iPhone/Android too?
You're also lugging around a petrol engine so don't compare range with the BYD.
Supports Elon -> Do you look at every product you buy and look into that organisations CEO? Betting not.

          • -1

@Maz78: "You're also lugging around a petrol engine so don't compare range with the BYD."

I'm talking about the fully EV Sealion 7, a complete different car than the Sealion 6… (stupid naming, I will give you that)

as for the buttons, if you are happy with:
            - changing electric car seat controls through the screen
            - changing side mirrors position through the screen
            - changing bloody gears through the screen
            - changing fan vents through the screen
            - changing steering wheel height/distance through the screen
            - etc…………..

be my guest, I don't want a phone on wheels, I want a car that's easy to handle while I'm driving. And that's ignoring the bloody speedo on the centre screen as well, a safety issue.

as for the Elon thing, fair enough, they are all pieces of shit

        • +1

you forgot fake leather seats vs real leather which I know some vegans won't like but real nappa leather will be a bonus for alot of people buying this.

          • +1

@sludo: true that, the real leather in the SL7 is lovely, even my (kinda racist) wife was impressed

When referring to pure experience, pretty much every aspect of driving, technology and assistance is better in the Tesla. I bought the Sealion 7 though due to most of what you wrote above, so it's a better fit for me, but it's not as good as the Tesla. Your dislike for Elon cleary gives you bias though. RE no buttons, remember their direction is fully autonomous vehicles. I want the controls and I think they're a few years too early to strip them from the consumer market.

          • @TheJoker: their direction is fully autonomous for the past 10 years… it never arrives but yeah buy a car for maybe getting a feature in a few years… smart decision.

here's the thing, I (and many people) don't want driving assistance, ADAS, etc. they are all crap, the best brands still have issues with ghost braking or unintended acceleration, multiple Teslas have had accidents because of that

So thanks no thanks, in every car I drive I disable 100% of these new "assistances"

my dislike for Musk is the same I have for the CCP, I've repeated that ad nauseam, but whatever

again, apart from the bigger boot, there's nothing in a Model Y that I believe to be superior, specially in Australian roads. You on the other hand sound like a bit bitter for not buying a Model Y… go ahead and be happy.

            • @[Deactivated]: There's nothing bitter about it. I already own a Sealion 6 and am adding a Sealion 7 and an perfectly happy with my choice. I'm just able to distinguish between what's a personal preference and what's objective.

              • @TheJoker: Very objective. Teslas don't even have CarPlay / Android Auto, nor a simple HUD, and you call them "better" in tech. These are objective failures, not personal preferences, and everyone that doesn't hold Tesla shares would agree.

                • @[Deactivated]: No they're subjective. I don't use the phone integrations and I have HUD turned off in my BYD.

I would call objective failures things like running of the road, emergency braking in false situations, ploughing into traffic if I don't break. Overall I have as many assist features off because subjectively I don't like them. Objectively Tesla's driving tech is miles ahead of BYD. There may be the odd Tesla fault, but BYD's assistance issues are normal and I'm reporting them to recalls Australia due to his dangerous they are. Tesla's driving tech is objectively better.

                  • @TheJoker: "I don't use phone integrations"

AI: One survey indicated that 79% of U.S. buyers would only buy a car if it supported CarPlay/Android Auto.

Again, objectively, this is a failure for 8/10 people. You are the oddball here.

And I'm sure if a study was made as to whether having a dash or HUD was a requirement for driving, everyone except Tesla/Polestar share holders would say YES. Another objective failure.

"I would call objective failures things like running of the road, emergency braking in false situations, ploughing into traffic if I don't break."

Teslas have done this throughout the years, and still do, thousands of accidents. More recently, not only they have accelerated involuntarily, but have also locked people inside the car after a crash killing them in the fire.

Objectively, all ADAS / semi autonomous driving sucks, on all brands, and we are far away from fully safe autonomous driving. The only difference with Tesla is the hype/marketing that will fool people, since they had a head start 10 years ago. If you follow car reviews from multiple brands closely, you'd see that today there are a number of manufacturers on pair, slightly ahead or behind Tesla.

I have not seen a single objectively superior feature on Teslas mentioned by you, just opinions based on perceived tech performance, not based on data, accidents and fatal crashes.

Why not simply drop the price?

    • +10
      1. Retain pricing on paper.
      2. Actual promotion to clear existing stock.
      3. Existing distributor has committed to x number of vehicles within a certain period - suspect there is some financial incentive to do so. (BYD going to import directly rather than via EVDirect from July 2025).

Whist PHEV has its merits, but the financial gap between this and the BEV via NL is too big.

I prefer the Xiaomi SU7 story. It locked the doors after a crash and cooked the occupants in the resultant fire.

But that's nothing new, look up the Pinto. Ford bean counters figured it'd be cheaper to pay lawsuits to grieving families rather than do a recall on their exploding cars.

In other words, that shit has been happening for eons. EVs aren't the start or end of it.

    • +1

Tell me a dealer who doesn't do this? Tesla in Canada "sold" 8,653 Teslas in 3 days.

E.g. Registering stock at end of month for demonstrator vehicles can be 0 mileage used car if the right buyer comes along.

      • +1

It's a bit more than that.. they then sell the car for like 30% off and destroy the value for me car buyers… and usually for these cars they will lose some features like safety

  • post-FBT exemption end isn’t that only for hybrid ? Isn’t the full ev still exempt ?

  • I wonder if the other models will get the cash back

  • +3

The idea of boycotting Tesla over disdain for Musk while opting for a Chinese EV is absurd. Have people forgotten China’s role in COVID’s origins and its lasting impact, yet now you're endorsing them?

Didn’t realize how many left-leaning, overly "woke," pro-CCP NPCs troll this forum!

    • +4

You do realise that the Teslas we buy here are made in China, right?

    • +5

I honestly don’t care, most of our stuff comes from China. Scomo created the Covid tarrif problem trying to be a big man for the USA and shot us in the foot.

The cars coming out of China are next level and government investment has enabled that. It’s no different to the billions the US/UK/EU governments hand out to brands.

The investment from the Chinese gov has created a huge amount of competition inside China and the brands are all fighting for dominance which is driving massive breakthroughs in battery tech, look at EVs 5 years ago to now. I haven’t seen US or EU brands make 5% of those breakthroughs.

I can see why the EU and USA are scared but seeing as we killed our manufacturing industry there is zero downside for Australia as we have the most competitive new car market in the world with just about more options than any other country. It gets even better when you see we get European and British built cars often cheaper than what they cost in the countries they are made in and we get the Chinese cars tarrif free which is making the established brands compete.

    • +1

This place is full of them. All one eyed.

  • +3

I got one of these on a novated lease, came from a Tesla but moving into a unit and a useless local council that won’t install more chargers even after hundreds of owners emailing meant I wanted a phev.

Absolutely love it, phev options were slim but I wasn’t going near a Mitsubishi and the boot of the Formentor was useless for a dog.

6 months in and not a single issue, with a full tank and full charge I get about 1150km. I must be getting old because I love the floaty American suspension and feel like I’m driving a lounge room.

The funny thing is now I have a phev I’ve realised how bad my range anxiety was, I top up at the council carpark twice a week while I’m doing my shopping and barely run below the 25% threshold. It’s convinced me to go back to an ev next car. Will either be the Zeekr 7x or the BYD Tang L if they decide to bring it.

    • How big is / are your dog(s), and do you have to put down anything extra for them in the boot to make their trip comfortable?

  • I read an article about BYD in China, BYD slashed more than 30% on their price for some models. I wonder BYD Australia will do the same here.
If you look at the 2nd hand market of these BYDs, you will see how risky it is to buy a brand new one.

    • It can't be true… Only Tesla has demand issues….

So many in this thread and falling for the Mainstream Media Propaganda Machine

🔹 The mainstream media doesn’t report news — it manufactures consent. Owned by a handful of corporations, it doesn’t inform the public. It shapes perception to serve power.

🔹 Stories are framed, facts are filtered, and dissenting voices are erased. The goal isn’t to keep you informed — it’s to keep you aligned. Not with the truth, but with the approved version of it.

If Elon cured cancer and you'll all be in up in arms over drug companies going bust because of him.

      • So sky news is bad and all others are good? LOL Mate they're all bad.

  • Why can't I find any 2nd hand BYD Sealion 6 on Carsales?

    • I’m seeing 2 for private sale on there.

  • why would anyone go for this deal when you can get a novated-lease on the Sealion 7 with FBT exemption that makes the Sealion 7 cheaper than this??

    • mostly because my wife doesn't feel comfortable with a full EV. Next car after this one will definitely be an EV (this one would be if I had my way fully)
