FYI - Some owners report Timex watches have a loud ticking sound.

    • +1

They do. I have a expedition scout (not any of these). It definitely has a loud tick but Iove the look of mine. The indiglo is great too.

The only ones who don't have hearing loss

    • +1

Can also confirm. But, Indiglo more than makes up for it.

      Mmmmm….Indiglo…. :)

  • +2

@WatchNerd I recently inherited this Timex from my granddad.
The other watch I run is the Invicta Pro Diver which you posted for $46.47. Love that watch

    • +1

Can’t go wrong with two tone

    • +1

Cool, does the indiglo still work?

Which Invicta was that? Must have been a quartz model for that price, bargain!!!

      • +1

Needs a new battery to test

It was a warehouse deal from memory

  • I'm looking for a watch for an 18th present and to get engraved, which looks like it rules these out given the backing.

Anybody have any recommendations for around the $150-$250 price range? I know nothing about watches.

Orient Kamasu Auto Blue on Rubber… $264 delivered.

Check cashback websites to get it even cheaper.

      • +2

Orient are solid watches for the price.

      • is it possible to swap out the rubber at any point, i.e. if this looks good for him to wear day-day, then maybe on a special occasion he could add switch out the rubber for silver?

        • +5

Sure can… Watcbands are almost always interchangable allowing you to drastically change the appearance. When buying a new band you can even look for bands with a quick release, making switching bands extremely easy and fast without the need for tools to remove the spring pins. That Kamasu should take almost any 22mm watch band you like the looks of.

Okay so I ONLY read this comment without the above amazon link and context is a lot different 🤣

Timex Marlins are great if you wanna stay with quartz.

Or the Timex Q Chronograph (on sale too)

But it depends on style. Dress? Diver? Tool?

I have a thing for chronographs, hence the recommendations. They are a bit sportier.

      • I don't think this could be engraved given the design on the back, looks like all Timex watches have this.

        • Timex Q has space for engraving

If it's going to be a surprise, does the intended recipient already wear something like a smartwatch? If so, it might not see much use.

If it isn't going to be a surprise, it's probably worth asking them what their style is and what they're likely to wear.

Most would generally recommend sticking to genuine watchmakers, as opposed to the many fashion labels that put their names on watches. In that price range it's going to be Casio or Timex, with a handful of options from Bulova, Citizen, Orient and Seiko. Lorus and Pulsar are also budget sub-brands of Seiko but not widely available.

      • +1

It is a surprise so trying to keep it quiet. He doesn't wear a smartwatch so looking for something that he can understand is good quality and something 'special'.

    • +1

The Orient automatics are a solid choice, but there are also plenty of Citizen Eco-Drives that are worthy of consideration, too. Solid construction, a range of styles to choose from, and the convenience of never needing to change the battery as long as it sees light.

The q 38mm gmt is kind of cute… but $220 cute? Idk

      You're worth it, Jim.

      • +1

        Thanks mate I needed that

Men supporting men. It's what society needs.

  • Any opinions on which of these have the best light setup, and will be easiest to read in low light situations? My two current watches aren't great (gold face nixon with glow hands, black face g-shock with glow hands and a weak back light)

    • +3

These all have indiglo. If you don't know what that is just watch a vid on YT.

      • +2

I didn't know. Have checked it out. Thanks

What happened to the white/cream version of this Weekender one?

this one looks classic! Timex Expedition Rugged Metal Watch

Love my indiglo on a nato.

    I'm a poet and didn't realise.

    • That looks good on you. Is the ticking loud?

    • +2

I've done the same. My Expedition is a beater that I wear outside while doing work because it's slim, lightweight, and doesn't get in the way. Indiglo is unbeatable in low light conditions. (And, yes, the ticking is loud. This lives in a drawer when I'm not wearing it.)

      • is that 40mm?

        • I think so (I honestly don't recall!), it's very similar to this one in another colourway.

  • Can I ask how often do we need to replace the battery? I haven’t own watch like these. Can we replace it ourselves?

    • Every few years

      • Thanks

  • dead battery and damaged box received. watch face incredibly small, i think because the edge of the watch is thicker. Anyway, if you bought this and your not 12 year old boy or deathly skinny, then this watch will look very odd imo.

    • Which one? What size is your wrist?
