I wonder if my wall is big enough!

  • +9

Possibly the lowest price on record for a 98" TV?

    • -1

Pfft….Just buying my 100" with an Ozb logo…

      https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/LCD-TV-Factory-Price-…

FWIW - I bought a Chinesium 47" 4K TV in 2014ish (Harvey Norman didn't even know what 4k meant back then) for $660 delivered. Turned out to be a LG panel..but no LG menus (ie cant adjust the backlight without going into the secret source+2580 menu).

      But it's still going strong.

They have had 98's for a while. 100,110's, 115s is where they are at these days.

      • Gonna put a custom Samsung logo on and resell on MarketPlace 😏

        • Is that you, Mo? With a 2025 Facebook account?

  • Can Costco install this big boy?

  • +13

Crazy to think in 2016 i was seeing 98 inch tv's at JB for $39,000+

    • +1

I remember going to either HN or TGG and seeing the same thing about that time!
At that time I thought that a TV that size would probably end up somewhere between $10k-$20k :-)

    • Yep, now the 115 inch ones are north of $25k

      • $3.5k if you are competent at repairing a TV yourself if you needed.
That being said, I've never had a Chinesium die yet.
100" is a better price point $1000 ish.

        • I've had a Chinesium die at 11 months - phew, just inside warranty so refund it was.
A mate had his die bought at the same time at about 18 months

          • @MrFrugalSpend: ACL has any TV at 3yrs warranty minimum.

I just missed out on a faulty 75 Samsung OLED, 13 months old. Samsung said warranty is over. Guy sold it for $120.
Was devo when I told him the buyer will be putting in a warranty claim with a copy of the ACL attached.
No issue whatsoever enforcing a 13 month warranty on an OLED. LG come to the party in the 4th year (as if it did go to court, it would get up).

          • @MrFrugalSpend: Not one, not a couple, but..'several years". So minimum 3.

            Extract from the ACL..

"For a TV, a reasonable time for a TV to be expected to last would be at least several years, depending on the price and quality. "

But this is obviously bought from an Aussie retailer.

            • @tunzafun001: I don't know in who's book 3 is several, surely at least 4

If I told someone on Marketplace I had several types of an item for sale, and they drove over and turned up and I had 3, they'd be pissed

            • @tunzafun001: Mine was in warranty, so didn't matter I got a refund without a hassle of an ACL argument.

My mate bought his for his business through the company for the office wall = no consumer protection.

ACL also takes into account if it is cheap crap that is not expected to last as long

              • @MrFrugalSpend: Ok, well if its a business running 24/7, rarely any warranty at all. But, TV's are 99% the same these days. So not too hard to fix. Being a cheapie it's probably an 80 cent cap gone.

    • I saw a 100" plasma TV at Harvey Norman back in 2007.

      • I went to CES in Vegas in 2005 and saw the first Samsung demo 102" plasma TV. 1080P and it was incredible! article
The article also talks about a "mammoth" 71" 1080P plasma available for $US75,000

  • +2

Definitely breaking dollar per inch value.

  • +3

Will HN or TGG price match this?

    • +1

Tried HN, said no go, as it's a membership deal or something.

    • TGG has recently (2 days ago) price matched a costco fridge for me, but wouldn't include delivery even though that's included in costco's price. Only worth if it if you've really hogged all the 10% off GCs.

  • +2

    98"?

    THAT'S A BIG BOY

  • +1

Why don't they make TV's this size 8K or even 16K?

    • +18

For the simple fact, where are you watching 8k or 16k content?

    • I don't think that there's an abundance of native 8K or above content to be consumed by such screens, I would guess that that is the bottleneck. Also a lot of people seem generally OK with consuming content at 1080p still, although 4K is fast becoming the new standard for higher quality viewing, 8K seems to be a while away from ubiquity

      • +2

"4K is fast becoming the new standard…" its around since 2014 and most of the ppl who didnt need to buy TV in the last ~3-4 years still running old HD
if anything its slow as f… and I expect 8k to be even slower as its bottle necking a lot of other tech with very minimal benefits…

    • So you turf this and buy another TV when the $8k comes out.

Also, a 100" 8K mini LED TV uses more power than the Sun….

      • True, Mini Led is a power hog, I saw the power consumption on some of the Sony Mini led models, makes the 2010's 1080 Plasma TV's look efficient. Bigup Panasonic and Pioneer Plasmas indahouse.

        • 8K 85" is a great big heater… But…uses 4 x what our Aircon does.

          All bad in summer.

          Plasma's were In the 200 - 500w range I believe…which you will see these days in a 65-75" TV.

Pretty sad they don't even put power consumption in the specs these days.

Guess cost of living / power is super cheap anyway right?

  • +2

Now I just need a room bigger than this tv to fit in

  • +4

This works well for 4 player split screen games. Great price

    • +2

Especially with the new Mario Kart out, 4 player split-screen with 1080p per player should be decent enough.

      • +1

Or GoldenEye 64. I am ageing myself here, I was a wee lad.

      • I'd need to upgrade from my OG wii

  • the real question, how the hell do I mount this on the wall

    • +3

If you find a deal on wall reinforcement let me know!!!

    • +1

Make sure you find a Mount to suit the weird stud pattern. I got mine from Kogan. Sticks out a lot though

      • +2

Stud pattern refers to walls, not TVs.

        • +1

Oh yeah sorry I meant vesa hole pattern.

    • That is the wall.

  • +9

Just remember Crane installation not included in the price.

  • +6

Make sure it fits in your elevator if you live in an apartment! That stopped me from pursuing anything bigger than 85" :(

    • +1

I'm surprised a boxed 85" fit in a typical elevator, unless you stand it up?

      • +4

I actually did measure it before and our apartment lift was about 2.1 x 2.1 for maximum dimensions to get through the door… other stores usually list packaging dimensions so I checked against that, and failing that, could always take the TV out of the box or hold it diagonally….

That being said I didn't actually buy an 85" TV (we have a 75" from before) so who knows if my application of pythagora's theory works in practice!

        • “Can I borrow your display box” lol

  • This or a 77" s90D off marketplace for $2300

  • +1

how is this TV refresh rate 200hz when TCL have it list at 144hz https://www.tcl.com/au/en/tvs/98c655

  • -1

I'm not a member, but could someone please check if they deliver to 3284?

    • OOS so I can't check it for you!

      • -1

Thanks anyway. It was in stock when I asked…..

      • Yeah I'm comparing with 98C755 and OOS before I pull the trigger.

        • I just got one, so I suggest checking back.

  • When adding to cart: "Sorry, there is insufficient stock for your cart."

  • Was it even worth it for a C655 model?

    • At 2600, the specs and size make this a good pick up. Had one since late last year, best TV I've had so far. Just grabbed another for my new place, given the price.

  • +1

That’s a lot of tv for the money - just have to convince wife our 85 inch is out of date.

    • Had one since late last year, great bang for the buck at this price point.

      • A wife?

Sounds like a pretty good deal

  • Great Deal. At this size, 8k resolution and 8k content start making sense.

  • Anyone wanna comment on the backlight of this thing?

  • Almost ordered this but it sold out too quick. That’s a massive tv

    • It was sold out for me or not deliverable to my location. But I just grabbed one a few mins ago, with home store being Epping. So, they might have them popping up here and there. I'd try again/keep checking back.

  • Bought one of these late last year for around the same with a trade in they never wanted (posted the deal back then).

Found it great for the price. Grabbed another one for my new place.

    Thanks for posting!

  • FYI they will not ship this to WA. Spent ages trying to add it to cart :(

  • When they deliver can we ask them to take it upstairs in a double storey house? Or do they only drop off at the doorstep?

  • Any deals on big tvs?

  • -1

Moving this around would be an absolute shit show. By a decent projector. My Valerion can be put in a case taken to my mates bush block in Merimbula and played on a 200 inch screen. Next day, back at home in 130 inch glory.

    • Shhh..you are making sense.
Huge TV, but only 4k anyway. Projector uses 1/8th the energy…

    • We were supposed to have giant roll up OLED screens by now, according to me 15 years ago

    • At what cost?

  • sold out!

    • lucky got one in the morning
      now looking for tv bracket

  • Damn! Missed out. If anyone has a change of mind, I will gladly buy it off you. 🤞🏽

  • To think i used to have a 14" CRT tv in my bedroom not even 15 years ago.

  • +2

    Got email from costco
    2014 model sold out
will send 2025 model which is 98P7K to me,But hvent been sending out

    • +1

Nice. But I would have hoped the 2014 model sold out given it is 11yo

    • Sounds promising. My order status is still at "Processing".

      • same

      • Called Costco for an update and they said stock has been allocated to my order and I should receive an update next week from the delivery company. Hard to say if this was accurate information, or not. My order still shows as "Processing" online.

        • Mine has arrived. Received the 655 model - wasn't lucky enough to get the newer 98P7K. Will unbox it on the weekend.

  • I received on wednesday
    luck got the 98P7
    Impressive
