In FTL you experience the atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down your shields?
Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape, power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the fight to them with a boarding party? This "spaceship simulation roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.

Outstanding game, would happily pay full price for this again - at this price it's a steal. It manages to strike a near-perfect difficulty balance - super challenging to beat the game properly, but incredibly rewarding.
I've been looking for a replacement ever since.
Good luck. It's timeless. Tried the multiverse mod?
I'm still trying to beat all ships and achievements on hard, then I will.
Have you tried into the breach?
Turn based game made by Subset games (FTL Devs)
I'll have a look at multiverse mod. I tried into the breach, wasn't my cup of tea.
My mate craps on about crying suns and it looked good but I just couldn't get into it.
Not quite the same but sunless sea and sunless skies are quite interesting.
Multiverse mod is amazing, but Void War just released as well and looks extremely promising.. And it's 10% off!
@Soapdroid: Thanks, I'll wait for a few more reviews, but it does look promising. Seems mostly like a 40k reskin of ftl.
That said, it's skirting awfully close to passing off as warhammer 40k. I literally had to double check it wasn't by gw. I'm pretty sure there was a definite space marine in the trailer as well.
Yeah I’ve tried a lot of attempts at replicating it, but they all fall short. The best I’ve found is FTL mods which basically do match what might be expected of a direct sequel. (Out There isn’t bad, but it’s quite a different game).
Edit: Also it has more in common with something like Slay the Spire but Cobalt Core is very good with good writing and gives a vaguely similar feeling.
Multiverse is definitely what you're looking for.
Incredible game and incredible bang for buck at that price.
I'm going to come off as a sockpuppet cause a good chunk of my comments are about praising this game every time it's posted
Reported!
Likewise!
So worth it.
You might need to watch a YouTube video or two to get the most out of it; but it's so worthwhile.
…and then there's a content update; and then people built the multiverse mod.
Someone's just posted a review on Reddit entitled:
"10 hours per penny: 2740 hrs played, 274 cents paid; Talk about bang for buck! Best game ever!"
…which I think about sums this game up.

One of the best designed games of all time. It's interesting that it's so old and no other game comes close to surpassing it in the genre it created.
Multiverse is a great expansion for this:

DO NOT BUY! Honestly, don’t buy this game unless you’re ready to lose entire weekends to it. It’s way too fun and very addictive.
Great game, but is there anyone in the universe who doesn't own a copy at this point?
There's always the new generation who have only ever been exposed to minecraft, roblox, and fortnight. My daughter has been enjoying playing a lot of these classics now that she's old enough.
FTL Clone, with more stuff to micro manage in battles
Incredible game worth it thanks OP.
I bought this game for $2.99 on new years eve 2016.
680 hrs played….
