Looking back on the days when I used to spend MR points on GC and payments, I regret so much!

    • +1

That’s nothing, I offloaded mine on qantas wines at the start of Covid and international airlines going into liquidation

      • -1

I got 2 ipad mini 5's at the first hint of Covid - got them just before they suspended redemptions.
If you hung on, you might have ended up with zero points (bust), or heavily diluted.

    • +1

      Agree. Better with flight

      • +2

is it the case if you never plan to upgrade?

  • +3

bumps the redemption rate from 1 pt = 0.5 cents to 1pt = 0.55 cents

presumably flights and upgrades are still better value (if you save enough points)

    • +2

Yeah surely saving them for flights might yield more. Then again, I been saving for ages and done nothing with them yet!

  • Anyone know the difference with just converting points for money repayment?

    • +2

Points to money is usually 20k to $100 giving you a 0.5c per point

  • Can you buy amex points?

    • No

  • um… redeemed 10 min ago but haven't received gift card yet

  • +2

If you travel much better for airlines. I use for velocity

  • +3

Just in time! My boss just texted me asking to purchase 4 apple gift cards, he will be happy I got a discount 😀

    • +4

Does he clain to work for the ATO?

  • Prefer to transfer to velocity and get a one way buisness fare to dubai last minute for just over 120k points (those cheap fares pop up every now and then, just gotta be ready to fly same night or the morning after)

    • There would surely be a tiny number of people able and willing to fly to Dubai with no notice.

How do you even make that work? Call in sick for work?

      • Some people have to work. Some dont 🤣🤣🤣

    • What airline? Do you mean Doha or (until recently) Abu Dhabi?

      • +1

        Via etihad using VFF
I used to see a few every couple of weeks but the contract ended with etihad

  • +3

There’s no way this is a good value. Better to exchange to velocity points.

This shouldn't be on ozbargain… it's the opposite of a bargain! Rip off using your amex points this way.

    • Sensei, show us the right way then!

      • The only way to use Amex points is to convert to frequent flyer points. 200,000 points for $1,100 apple or amazon dollars is crazy, when you can convert 200,000 points to say Asia Miles. You can get a one-way non stop business class flight to Los Angeles for the same points but worth $6-8k depending time of the year. Or if you don't want to be boujee a return economy flight ticket sydney to los angeles is 80,000 asia miles = 160,000 amex points… that's valued at $2k.

        • Agree, my last trip i booked economy via VFF. Cost me return 130k points and $700. If i was to book at that exact time, would have cost me over $3k with a longer layover.

        • How to redeem Asia Miles on AMEX site?

          • @Think: It's pretty clear on the menu option.

        • Thanks for the detailed write up, but for someone who doesn’t fly - no passport- is there a better way to spend points than Amazon gc?

          • @cloudy: You're better off getting a card where you get 2% cash back… i'm not sure what's the best value to spend points other than transfer to frequent flyers… as this deal gets you a little over 1% cashback per dollar spent.

  • Damn just used my points to pay my the bill

  • Terrible value - transfer to US MR FTW!!!!!!

    • +1

hahah - I think thats a bit advanced to most here :)

    • You can do that?? How?

  • How to convert to Apple Gift Card ?

i couldn't find Apple gift card in the website

    • Easy to do on the app
Go to memebership and then rewards and choose gift cards you will see apple there
