      And esim

  • I wonder if this is a good option to use for tethering with the Beryl Router……

    • I'd go with a basic phone with 5G support if I need one for my Beryl. So, this would be my choice.

      • +1

This is as basic as it gets if you need esim

        • You can get rewritable SIM cards now, so any 5g phone would work.

          • @safrane: How much do these readers cost? Considering I picked up the G54 when it was $150

              • @Russ: Thanks, not very productive in my case considering I usually have about 10 esims in my phone for different countries.

                • @Oh Daddy: If you have a dual-sim phone, you can fit two eSIM adapters for twice the storage. The app can handle two at once.

                  • @Russ: It's a great instructions set which I am denying. Just won't work for me if I am buying 10 of these blank Sim cards, that's more than the phone cost.

                    • @Oh Daddy: ???

Each eSIM adapter stores multiple eSIMs, the one I reviewed says "up to 15 eSIMs". With two adapters, that becomes "up to 30".

I've read that eSIMs vary in size, perhaps by how many countries each works in. So I think 15 is an optimistic claim, perhaps 8 per adapter is a more realistic guess.

                • @Oh Daddy: Silly Question: What phone do you have that you can have more than one e-sim or is it simply an issue of mounting the one or choosing the one you want to use?

                  • @carrawa: As far as I know, all phones with built-in eSIM capability can store multiple eSIMs. But mobiles can at most have two "SIMs" (including eSIMs) active at one time. You just have to go into the phone's settings and choose which SIMs/eSIMs are active.

Some mobile phones can only have one SIM/eSIM active.

                  • @carrawa: For travel I use Moto G54 for hotspot, personal phone is s25U. Both can hold multiple esims and active 2 at any given point.

@Oh Daddy: Thanks, good info. I thought you could only fit one e-sim in the G54

    • +1

I use a G54 especially due to its esim capability.

Where can I learn about this Beryl router setuo and its advantages?

      • Usually google is a good start

  • This or G75 for std use for phone, YouTube , not games

    • +1

      G75 will be better.

This haas 4gb ram which is a significant downgrade from the g54 8gb which i am currently using until my g75 arrives.

  • +1

4GB RAM must be a typo? My G54 (a year older) has 8!

    • Not a typo for this one unfortunately. There's three models of the Moto G55 5G. 128GB 4GB RAM (this one), 128GB 8GB RAM and 256GB 8GB RAM. This of course is the lowest end model and the worst. It's cheap for a reason.

  • +1

    promo code doesn't work

  • +2

If you buy the phone now for $197, you'll receive a $10 Amazon promotional credit to use on a future eligible order.

    • Yes well spotted.

Edit - Oh this is available again anyway + the $10 Amazon promotional credit for use towards a future Eligible Order.

  • So is this 4gb ram or 8gb ?

    • +1

      4GB

  • You can buy at JB for $187 if you have the $10 off code.

  • Hrmm seems like the G54 is better value searching around ozbargain because of the 8gb

  • +1

Had a good look at the spacs comparrison between the G54 and this G55 and although this only has 4 GB ram,

there are a few improved specs on the G55 worth mentioning.

    https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=13278&idPhone…

Faster CPU, double charge rate at 30 W, 8 MP Ultrawide camera, Gorilla Glass 5, and Android 14 with 3 yrs O/S updates.

They both have IPS 6.5" 120 Mhz screens and eSim support.

  • Gee, paid $10 more at OW back on Monday.

Updated my forest black G55 A-OK to Android 15 plus latest security patch.

  • +1

Like that it has a TPU case in the box but I decided to also buy a ItSkins clear case/glass screen protector combo bundle for the G55 5G over at my local JB Hi-Fi for $29.95.

    • Wow that was fast delivery!!!

    • Yes the sort of case which turns yellow over time getting all yuck.
