  • Is this legal to have in the driver's view?

    • +1

That would depend on what state you live/drive in most likely, as for example, the Transport Victoria website specifies that it can be mounted and used anywhere apart from airbag deployment zones.

    • I followed a Camry the other day with one of these mounted to his dash and it was a distraction for me metres behind him.

      • +2

I have a very similar one in my Camry haha

Probably no worse really than the distraction from some of the touch screen controlled cars now e.g. the multi level menus to change a simple function in a Tesla.
And these are legal yo use.

  • Legal for p driver to use the gps ?

    • Check your state's driving rules and regulations. It's legal in Victoria, but you can only operate it whilst stationary/parked.

      NSW website information:

      Digital screens and GPS
Digital screens, also known as visual display units, include devices such as tablets and laptops, as well as dashboard screens.

      The rules
You must not drive with a digital screen on if you can see it, or it could distract another driver, unless you’re using it as a driver's aid. In this case, it must be in a holder fixed to the vehicle or built into the vehicle.

      Driver’s aids include:

      navigation devices, for example, GPS
      dispatch systems
      reversing screens
      CCTV security cameras
      vehicle monitoring devices.
Your passengers can use digital screens, but the screens must not:

be visible to you from the normal driving position
      distract another driver.
      Penalties
You can get a fine and demerit points for using a digital screen illegally while driving.

  • Hey, does anyone know if you can connect two iphones simultaneously to this easily? Sick of having to manually disconnect partners phone from bluetooth and then reconnecting mine, each time we want to swap. Appreciate any answers, thanks

    • +3

      No it can’t.
I have this unit and unfortunately ran into the same issue as you.
Bit annoying, but can’t complain for the price I got it for. In general it’s been a solid device.

Just turn Bluetooth off from one phone, its a simple fix.

  • Is self installation the way to go or is it recommended that a professional install it? Installation seems to avg at 200$, more expensive than the device.

    • Diy is easy. Give yourself about an hour or so

Kind of gives you an idea. The tricky bit I guess would be installing the rear camera, I assume its a long two wire cable that you would need to tuck into the trim.

Another brand Greg reviews looks very similar to the product.

    • Not this product specifically but i bought an eonon for my 2012 mazda 3. Took an hour with no prior experience. Found a guy on youtube was was installing the exact same product on the exact same car. Videos helped me trust the process. But it was amazing how simple it was.

  • Have similar unit. Very happy with it and recommend it. Very good hand free call audio quality and quick booting and connection.

    • Would you mind share your unit details, I am looking for to buy one, cheers

Got this from the last deal. It's great.

Only thing to be aware of is wireless android auto chews your phone battery.
    I'm talking 1% battery every 5mins.

Lack of EQ is a problem too. I find it lacks bass output for some reason. My car has two subwoofers under the front seats but the bass doesn't seem to get to them. Can't really explain why.

  • +1

Bear in mind, it is not car designed, but a tablet which requires very precise touch. Plus the scree is highly reflective making lots of glare.

    • +2

Agreed. I'm using iPad "paper" screen protector to reduce glare a bit

      • +1

this's a pretty squirrelly solution – good idea!

    • +2

I remember reading a random Amazon review recommending to NOT remove the factory plastic on the screen which actually helps with the glare issue!
I did this coz I’m cheap, and it helped! Haha.

  • My recommendation is to get one with auto brightness. Ie. At night it dims. Or else you'll be fiddling with brightness every day and night, very annoying

    • I have pretty much the same unit as this which I paid half the price from Aliexpress which I permanently use in dark mode. Saves the hassle of changing but yes mine does have an auto brightness feature. I'm prettty sure this one will have it too.

  • +2

This is apparently the bees knees of these.

Waiting for the price to drop to about $200/$250

  • can you Bluetooth out to your car audio and do wireless AA? my car doesn't have an AUX in.

    • +1

I have a Lazer AA/CP unit with the same featureset, I use wireless connection to the unit with bluetooth audio to the car through a separate audio unit. Works fine (most of the time). Every now and then it pipes audio through the Lazer's speaker which's easy enough to switch over (if a little annoying)

    • +1

I can do this using CarPlay so assume ok with AA too.
