Have been advised by doctor to start using extra wide shoe due to medical problem in feet

Go see a podiatrist, maybe you can treat the cause.

No but I'd suggest seeing another professional that specialises in feet vs some random comments from ozbargain.

Yes I do realise the hypocrisy of my reply

        • How inappropriate of you to advise to see someone who is an expert in the field!

@Danstar: How inappropriate of you to reply to an inappropriate comment!

Better OP goes to "The Athelete's Foot"

They are properly trained to identify the right size shoe for you and ….

          YES they supply EXTRA WIDE

BUT NO. You probably wont get anything decent under $100 there
They only sell quality BRAND NAME shoes

This is a serious matter OP. Its NOT one for "Bargain shoes"

NB: I went there and they identified New Balance 624 in a 2E (extra wide) width for me and they are great!
I tried 3 different shoes but the NB were the most comfortable and probably amongst the cheapest (currently $134)

So OP can go to "The Atheletes Foot", get a proper foot sizing, identify the best fitting shoe, and then shop around for the best price

For example my NB 624 (2E width) can be currently purchased from Jim Kidd Sports for only $90 plus shipping ($10 with Australia Post)
Hence meets OP's price criteria as well!!!!!

I absolutely would recommend a podiatrist if you have diabetes or lymphoedema

      • +2

Unhelpful? Maybe. Inappropriate? How about you unclench

        • been a lot of the clenching going around.. is there something going around or..??

      • +2

Do you know what a podiatrist is..?

      Well balanced? Extremely stable?

Hush Puppies. Even if sale prices >$100, spend less for junk food, or skip one upgrade ayfone/samsang/kigsel or sell them and buy cheap motorola, nokia etc.

    Randall or Nigel good.

Hush puppy and NB do extra wide.

  • +9

I use New Balance as they have a wide last, and I need EEE for width.
NB make a really nice walking shoe as well as joggers.

    • Thanks, any specific NB ones do you recommend checking?

      • +4

Depends on the style you're looking for.

        I'm a fan of the 624's in a 4E width.

        • +7

624 in black is a good stealth walking shoe for workplace, shame they dont last much more than a year these days.

          • @Nalar: Agreed, they used to last till the shoe wore out.. now the sole craps out really early

            • @siresteelhell: I realise this suggestion adds a bit more expense, but a way to overcome the crappy soles or even the shoe outlasting the sole is to get the shoe resoled.

I used to wear Birkenstock clogs for work and the soles would wear down so quickly and then cause the cork to deteriorate more rapidly, so I ended up getting them resoled when they were new before I ever wore them. Extended their life from about 9 months to 2 - 3 years.

Oh, and I think Birkenstock may have a wide fitting, but probably above your price range.

    Sketchers have wide fit shoes.

  • Do you stand all day as part of your job?

I used to wear these in the office, great comfy wide shoes that don’t look terrible.

    • I can't spot anything in the under $100 budget that OP asked for.

  • +1

2nd New Balance (NB) Great range at good prices. Shoes generally last well and you can special order sizing if needed.

    • Thanks, any specific NB ones do you recommend checking?

      • What are you wearing the shoes for? Casual, exercise etc

      • Scroll to the bottom of this page to get the width sizing and get whatever you like that's available in the width you want. Their shoes are generally wider than others but I've picked up some 2E wide shoes before. Their website and Athletes Foot are the best bet for getting a pair. Smaller running shoe focused shops sometimes stock them as well.

First of all there are multiple different width fittings in shoes - 2E, EEE, 4E, 6E
I'm going to guess that as you are only just being advised this then you'll probably be looking at 2E or maybe EEE depending on the shoe type you're looking for
2E is pretty common and most brands will do these - Nike, New Balance, Asics, Brooks and Ascent to name a few, EEE is more a business shoes sizing in which you'll find Hush Puppies, Florsheim and Julius Marlows. 4E does get harder to find and 6E I have only found New Balance doing these in 1 or 2 styles.
You haven't mentioned overall sizing as this can also have a huge effect as finding big wide shoes gets even tougher (my feet are size 15 4E)
my first recommendation would be to find your nearest athlete's foot store and book an appointment to do a free My fit 3D session with them so they can tell you your exact sizing.

    • Thanks, didnt know about free My fit 3D session, will do it

    • Thanks for the info. Rockport EEE were my goto for years, and I have spares,
But casuals were always a matter of getting lucky.
What is the Casual equivalent if EEE?

      • I've found EEE to be fine for my feet which normally require a 4E in a New Balance or Asics.
In EEE I have had Hush Puppies and Florsheims in the past. Was more a matter of trying them on as I did try to buy over the net based upon size but had to return them as even though they were wide EEE fit they didn't have a wide enough toe box area for me.

    • If these are the shoes that I tried on a couple of weeks ago, then a) they are not that wide, and b) the sole is thin. Really thin. Like probably thinner than the upper part of the shoe. You'll feel every little bump and crack through that shoe. Not a great option if you have trouble with your feet already.

  • Asics have some extra wide shoes, i'd check them out.

These are OK . For foot neuropathy in my case .

    • How do the sizes run? Compared to say a new balance?

  • +2

You probably won't find any of these for <$100 but as others have said New Balance (try their outlets) is the go for athletic shoes, for something more business-y I have had luck with Slatters and Ferracini - I don't think they actually offer wide sizes but their 'normal' sizes are often wide enough for me.

  • Brooks have 2e and are much better joggers than nike. Wait for a sale and check out Adrenaline model.

Rockport ate the ither brand that have a lot of wide shoes 2e and even 4e. Very comfortable and easy to source.

Check out amazon and out in your filters to find your options

  • +1

I need 4E width and have been buying Brooks running shoes for the last 15 years. Even on special they are $200.

I wear these all the time except when I go to my office job and wear my Dr Scholl's black leather lace ups which don't say 4E on the box but are just as wide as the Brooks 4Es. Again you're not going to get any change out of $200 even if you are importing them from the USA.

    • The Athletes Foot have sales on Brooks all the time I was able to buy 2x Adrenaline GTS 23 for $149 and $159 about 1 month ago.

      • Thanks. I'll look into that

FitVille on Amazon are reasonable shoes for the price if you really want t to hit well below $100. The quality and comfort is good. I wore them for working in staging cuz barefoot shoes were no good for standing for long hours and I needed the support. And it's Amazon so just return if you don't like. Which actually might earn you a second pair of shoes cuz they're mailed from the brand in China so they gave me a second pair free when I had a change of mind on colour cuz it must have been too expensive for them to pay return post. Good service.

    • They also have a store on eBay, and recently bought a pair of safety toe runners from them. It's so hard to find 4e+ black safety toe runners, so finding this brand was great. It was only $80 too. If you go to their actual website, you can see a very detailed size chart. It includes both shoe length, and girth around toe box for each shoe. As in, specific for the shoe, not generalised for all their brand. Makes it really easy to find the right size.

  • If your medical issues is plantar fasciitis check out Dr Angela Walk.

  • Nothing good at $100

Fork list for the Nike Pegasus 4e u won’t go back
    Like walking on clouds

    • this. or a Hoka.

  • Asics Nimbus or Kayano in 2E/4E depending on your width. Nimbus 26s are decent or Kayano 31s. Try your luck at DFOs for older models however 4E is more rare to find for older models.

Will be closer to ~$200-220, but worth saving up and getting decent shoes for long term comfort, health and wellbeing.

  • I'm a 7EEE so I feel your pain brother, it's hard to find good wide everyday shoes. I wear OnCloud running shoes - they're stretchy enough to be comfortable for my wide feet:

    https://www.on.com/en-au/products/cloud-6-m-3mf1007/mens/bla…

If you need leather shoes you could wear with a suit, the Rockport Allanders are as comfortable as they get.

  • As a proud member of the wide feet gang, I've found many brands of boots are far more comfortable than sneakers or formal loafers.

I've got a good pair of wide Thorogood's and Thursday boots. The Thorogood's are more comfortable, but also more expensive.

  • +3

For casual stuff look up Hobibear barefoot shoes. $33 on AliExpress.

They look a bit goofy, but who looks at a man's shoes anyway.

    • +1

This is what I rock, I've got 4 pairs in the same style 2x leather look ones and 2x canvas ones.

  • I've found that I couldn't save money on wide shoes, all the cheaper models I tried didn't help and I'd end up with the expensive shoes in the end.

I've been using new balance 880 2E shoes for the past 8 years or so. If you're lucky you can get a pair for around $170 but generally they tend to be around $210.

  • New balance for sure

  • You just need to find a shoe with an additiinal sizing of 4E. So it would be US10 4E for instance. Asics do this extra wide sizing as does hushpuppy I believe. I just went t b ru the same thing..of needing a wide 4E shoe.

  • I've been buying New Balance 624 extra wide shoes for a decade. It's the only sport/walking shoe I'll ever buy.

Comfortable, hard wearing, and often sold 40% off the usual price.

  • +1

Hush puppies for business work. They have some fantastic extra wide models.

  • My advice: Go to a New Balance outlet store and try finding any shoes that are width 2E or 4E (depending on how wide you need them). The last pair I bought was a pair of extra-wide female shoes that did the job. For New Balance, standard width for female sizing is B, wide is D (which is standard male width), and extra wide is 2E. It took me a bit of digging but I found it for $70 at the New Balance outlet.

  • My podiatrist recommended Mizuma. they do an extra wide. Jim Kidd always has them on sale. I bought the Wave Ryders as a everyday walking show. They are excellent and so comfortable. They do a D width and a 2E width

  • New Balance for walking, Hush Puppies for business, Adidas for Trainers.

straight from my order history BROOKS GHOST 15 (2E WIDE) MENS US Mens 14 was the last shoe i bought, fits well for wide feet not cheap tho

  • hey op, just wondering what condition or issue is it if you don't mind sharing? I have big feet (size 14/15) and wide, and also flat too.

  • Hush Puppy Chelsea boots are great for work. They're extra wide as standard.

  • Yea as other comments, I use new balance for gym and hush puppies for work shoes. All available for cheap from DFO/Harbor town or those type of outlets.
Adidas nmd_r1 works for me for casual even though my foot could be slightly wider than the sole, i dont feel it, like other shoes.

  • once a salesman from NB told me that if you go for a .5 extra in size, its extra wide. So if your show size is 9, go for 9.5 if available and it will be extra wide.

  • I use extra wide shoes from asics atm, and new balance makes them too. For asics, width 2E is for extra wide. Try their outlet stores for EOFY sales now. I always buy them around this time of year, and for $80-120, we can get very nice shoes from either of these brands (whose RRP is around $200-300).
