  • Wonder why it's always the black ones that go on sale. They look way better than the brushed stainless steel version in my opinion.

Black is plastic casing and paint on the metal tray which chips. Not a deal breaker especially at this price but I’ve had both and have gone back to stainless

      • Black is plastic casing

Are you sure? Mine seems to be black painted metal. Only the top panel is plastic, same as the stainless steel version.

paint on the metal tray which chips

Yeah, I've seen 2nd hand ones with chips all over them. That's why I'm using the clear plastic protector that came with the machine. They must have added this after complaints about the paint chipping.

    • As stated in the deal description…

      17% cashback with Shopback = $488.04
      10% cashback with westpac ($50 cap) = $438.04

  • Can't get a cashback with price beat?

    • -1

Technically they say no but, I recently got cash back in the purchase of a new TV with price beat.

So I guess don't bank on it, but certainly try it.

      • +1

Was that the automatic pricebeat using the button and not using Live Chat ? Also was this at Shopback and not at Top cashback where we know automatic pricebeat works

        • Oh yes, I've just checked it was topcash with the price beat button.

  • Good timing. My 5 year old Breville Barista Express is starting leak. Might be time to swap this out. Is this an ATL?

Or just replace the internal orings for a few dollars.

      • Thanks for the tip.

I did that and it worked for a little bit, but the seal kept on blowing out and needing reseating. Apparently this is due to the internal screws coming loose over time due to having no loctite applied in assembly.

        • Oh ok….. So not o-rings, but the group head gasket.

Yeah, that's a known issue….. Causes the group head collar to flex. A big stuff up on breville's part.

It can be fixed but it does require quite a bit of disassembly to reach the screws in question.

I guess you could buy the new one and sell the old one to someone who's up for a bit of a DIY fix. It would be a false economy to take it to the repair centre.

5yrs tends to be the time these start to break down with daily use in my experience.

People in the other deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/909622) are saying that if you use the price beat you won't be eligble for the cashback?

    https://www.shopback.com.au/the-good-guys
    "Exclusions
    You won't get Cashback on:
    - Any Price Beat discount amounts or promo code discount amounts that have been applied to the order"

Or is that saying you do get the cashback, just on the lower price beat amount

    • +1

Correct on the last sentence - you get cashback on what you actually paid, not the full price before price beat.

  • Can any of my ozb friend guide. Should i buy this or impress or pro model? Looking to buy one for office use of 15 people team..not heavy usage though..or should i go for any delonghi automated machine? Budget is max $800 - $900. Thanks

    • I've had this model for 3 years now. I would go for it in the multi-user environment. I found that the second coffee does not taste the same if I make it straight after the first one. Breville customer service was not helpful with this issue and one other issue with the grinding system.

      • Thanks mate. I am thinking that DeLonghi Magnifica Evo Fully Automatic Coffee Machine Titan ECAM29083TB at Goodguys (17% shopback CB) maybe more useful for office use as its an automatic machine..not sure of the coffee quality of Delonghi vs this Breville machine

  • FYI CB excludes GST
