      i3 vs i5

    • +2

shopback CB is 10% capped at $20 not $40.Thnx

  • +1

How does it compare to this laptop?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/909481

    • +3

Worse battery life, no OLED disp, slightly worse CPU and graphics(?).

      • +2

Trying to find equivalent but seems like I’ll have to wait awhile.

        • +3

Yeah I'm also regretting not pulling the trigger on that one.

    • +6

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Gen 9 is clear winner with the newer Ultra 5 processor with AI / NPU and OLED display

    • Yep, this E series isn't a bad deal but it's pretty underwhelming, other deals present much better value if you're patient

  • +3

Nice deal! Also 10% cashback capped at $20 with SB later today…
Although tbh TCB has 3% uncapped which works out at around $23, and they're generally much better with seeing cashback through…

  • Steel

But how's the robustness / rigidity? The E series is meant to be the budget line and not like the "traditional" ThinkPad.

I got the Acer 5 months back but would have got this ThinkPad if it was available then. Really can't beat acer on value (traditional brands) but this ThinkPad takes the cake

    • +1

We have an older E485 (precursor to the E14), it's heavy however seems very solid.

    • Had one before, build quality won't be an issue. Battery life, screen quality and portability as it is quite heavy are.

    • +1

Yeah, the E series is the budget line of Thinkpad's build quality not great, not terrible.

      The ranking is:
      E series - cheap
      L series - mid range
T series - high end corporate
      X series/Carbon - light high end
      P series - performance/workstation

Then they also have the IdeaPad range, which is sorta like the E series, but lighter and somewhat more "trendy" non-black design.

  • great deal, discount upon a discount. was already looking at getting a couple for work, this just saved me 300$!

  • Argh, just missing a gpu and nearly got the kids a minecraft machine.

    • integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics?

Good enough for low to medium settings i think

      • +1

I think the above items have the slightly older Integrated Intel® UHD Graphics.

    • +2

These can play Minecraft perfectly fine. It's only an issue if you run any shaders, or if you run 100 block LoD mod.

  • Can we buy 3 Yrs extra warranty at lenovo ebay?

    • Extended warranty is usually a waste of money since you can usually cite ACL up to about 2 years.

Also with Lenovo you can just purchase the extended warranty after something goes wrong (takes a month to activate though).

  • +4

I bought the laptop in Jul-23 for kid through lenovo website with 3 yr extra onsite warranty and 3 yr battery addon..2 weeks ago keyboard had few keys fallen off. so called lenovo..technician came at my home and replaced the keyboard at $0 cost..so I found the warranty bit useful.

  • Lenovo is selling this same laptop for $959 with 20% Shopback CB (capped at $250) i.e $767 net price with delivery..incase anyone wants to buy directly from Lenovo website..3 yr extra warranty is for additional $84

    • Does Shopback accept the eCoupon EOFY25 though

      • +1

you dont have to enter coupon anywhere..system at checkout automtically took it so I think shopback should be fine

        • +1

The ecoupon is automatically entered for you though and at the end you can remove it. You won't get Cashback on: Store promotions, discounts or special deals unless otherwise stated. The coupon is not stated anywhere on Shopback. Anyone has successful tracking please let me know.

          • @levqchi: Shopback is using Lenovo EOFY sale as banner photo for cashback deal so i think EOFY code inclusion should be fine..anyone purchased tracked so far, pls let us know.

  • IMO nicely designed laptop
    https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/14mb2n2/thinkpad_…
good expansion ports for further upgrade (sadly intel one only have two m.2 2242) (https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/e14_gen5_e16_…)
    Additional SODIMM
    Huge ventilation at the bottom

  • +1

I found something similar for slightly less after SB cashback. It makes it a tough decision.

I ordered the same one for kid..its a good purchase

      • did your shopback track?

        • +1

          Yes it did..

          • @toyapple9: Bummer, I went with the ebay deal instead. So many more better choices on the lenovo website. But then I could not afford the $250 gamble.

        • +1

Yes it did. I was nervous it wouldn't track. It was a hard decision to make, I went with the larger screen.

The model TA linked (21JK00PWAU) has sold out.

    If anyone's wanting a similar model (21JK00PVAU) there's this selling for $959 ($767.20 with JUNEOFY20 code). https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/396691335477?_skw=e14&itmmeta=01…
Unless I'm mistaken it actually seems to be.. better than the OP model despite the cheaper price? Comes with Windows 11 Pro and 1080p webcam (vs Windows 11 Home and a 720p camera on the OP model).

But the real find might be the AMD model, which is actually an E14 Gen 6 model (21M3003EAU) selling for $999 ($799.2 after discount). https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/396725178169?_skw=e14&itmmeta=01…
For $32 more after discount, the AMD model has:
    i) Spare 2280 PCIe 4.0 m.2 SSD slot (vs 2242 PCIe 3.0 in Gen 5) - faster transfers, and probably easier to find 2280 drives instead of 2242
    ii) 2x non-soldered DDR5 RAM (vs 1 soldered and 1 non-soldered DDR4)
iii) Slightly worse CPU but ?significantly better iGPU (AMD 660M Graphics vs Intel UHD)
    iv) Completely aluminum case
    v) Marginally better miscellaneous specs (eg: 1080p webcam, better USB ports, etc)

Links to Lenovo's detailed specs below for anyone who wants to dig further (gotta put the model number into the search bar):
    Intel E14 Gen5 models: https://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_E14_Gen_5…
    AMD E14 Gen 6 models: https://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_E14_Gen_6…

    • Thanks for the update - but can you confirm if the PCs you have identified actually have cameras? Whilst the detailed specs from the Lenova website suggest they have cameras, the specs within the eBay website suggest cameras are optional or am I reading this incorrectly?
*(I recall reading somewhere that specs can be subject to change at Lenovo's discretion).

Also, could you provide your thoughts on this PC i found on the Lenovo outlet website?
      https://www.lenovo.com/au/outlet/en/p/laptops/thinkpad/think…

      Thanks in advance

      • +1

I bought the AMD model, so I can confirm it does indeed have a camera. For the Intel model I linked (21JK00PVAU), given the ebay page gives that MPN, and that MPN is listed as having a "FHD 1080p + IR Hybrid with Privacy Shutter" camera on Lenovo's own spec page, it almost certainly comes with a camera too.

The "optional camera" part on the ebay listing is probably worded that way because some models only have the 720p camera. Not the FHD 1080p one.

As for the X13 Yoga Gen 4 model you linked, I don't want to pretend I know much about it cause I haven't researched it. But looking at the specs list (via clicking on 'View all models" on the page you linked), it looks weird. Cause your model has a better CPU than the more expensive models. But is missing the touch pen?

Also, the whole X13 Yoga Gen 4 line is limited to one RAM stick (soldered, so you're stuck with whatever RAM you purchased), and one 2280 SSD slot (but you can swap this out for a bigger SSD if needed).

That's about all I can say about the laptop you linked. Hope it helps!
