  • IMO good deal since these are around ~$79-ish

I'm quietly impressed the 'new tech' tax isn't as high as it historically has been, compared to other SanDisk cards.
It's not zero… but it could have been much worse.

Because MicroSDXC Express isn't that cheap yet.

You'd only get SDXC, which won't work in the switch2, which is what people want them for.

Ah ok fair, it’s a higher performance class than SDXC. Have to say the naming scheme isn’t great for these performance classes

        • +1

Nah, not a performance class. Its a card type.

Like: MMC, SD, SDHC, SDXC, SDXC Express.
Think of them sort of like codecs.

These types are why larger cards work in devices that say 'max size 256gb' - it's already SDXC so it can keep going, even 2TB cards are still SDXC right now. If the size a device is expecting was stuck in the SDHC range, odds are XC cards won't work.

The performance classes are numbers in circles, up until 10.

Then it moves onto the V rating, as their use case started to be near exclusively media, so its now a continuous bitrate number.

Other than that you just have A ratings, which show random r/w performance for App use.

There was also U ratings, if you had a speciality reader or device. But it wasnt a rating that helped in regular devices.

        • I agree on the naming aspect. Should have called it something different I think, without the “SD”, or if they had to keep that call it “SD2” or something. There’s been too many other terms to describe the various speed classes that having Express (or “EX”) as its own thing will really trip people up. The speed increment here is significant and I think the branding should differentiate that more clearly.

Can take a seat alongside USB in recent years for poorly thought out naming/branding.

Heya, the Switch 2 uses an "Express" card these are way faster then the normal MicroSD cards you see. They aren't super easy to get at the moment though which is likely why price is high right now.
From what I understand the Switch 2 requires the Express cards if you want to save games onto them.

      • Thanks but not working for me. Signed into Student Beans website then navigated to ebay to check out cart with microsd and balloons and code didn't work.

        • Just tested and it's working with $1 ballon LoL.
Try another browser in case it's too secure and blocking Student bean coupon activation

@LHSolutions: Thanks both! Worked in Firefox with no extensions and accepted all cookies when entering Student Beans page

  • STUDENTB20 isn't working on the ebay 512gb model

    • Coupon code is generic but will not work without going through student beans link

      • Did that, signed up, went through link - got STUDENTE20 as my code. Both codes failing.

        • Cashback activation overrides Student Beans coupon activation that's what I`ve noticed.
I activate cashback first and then activate Student Beans coupon, not expecting cashback to be approved but maybe if lucky lol

@LHSolutions: Got it - It was Brave browser. I guess some of the anti-ads/tracking was messing with the referral.

Not getting free postage though, bringing it to $118.90. :(

  • Why is EB games prices for many items more expensive than JB or even CEX?
Are the Ebgames ebay prices much cheaper than the "shop" prices?

  • Unfortunately it’s $70.90 due to $9.95 shipping without Ebay Plus, which really sours the deal.

    • Yeah, at 79 in-store, I'd rather just go to Big W or Target, sign up to their newsletter for a tenner off, and pay the same price, have it in hand same day. JB is same story but a little more effort to make a Perks voucher than just signing up to Target or Big W's emails.

Filled my Switch 2 super quick. Don't even have that many games. Mario Kart and Split Fiction alone is 90 something gig right there, glad Cyberpunk is all on cart (albeit with a 2gb patch still), you bet the first time there's a serious price drop I'll jump on these cards.
