Broke how?
Too rough s3x
Lousiest blow job ever - thanks Dyson!
How did it break? Did it fall off or was it hit? Did you contact Dyson usually they replace for free small issues like that!
Mine sits in the corner blowing air and quietly rotates back and forth……
What the heck were you doing with yours??
That's why yours didn't break, you haven't tried to move it.
The top half that pivots broke from the base when someone picked it up. I'd understand if it had unattached from the base, but to break like that was bizarre.
Bend your knees folks.
Thank you to everyone for chiming in that said "mine is fine"; it's appreciated and expected, particularly when discussing Apple, Android, Tesla, Dyson, etc.

That's how I pick mine up. It hasn't broken.
It is important for people without problems to chime in to give context. The problem you reported is not typically what happens with these Dyson fans, so to give a balanced view on this public forum, others will also report their experience.
What commonly happens with online forums is some people don't realise that most of the time, people with no issues won't say anything. So they might read a comment saying "my fan broke" and assume it's a widespread problem when it might only affect 0.01% of fans - because the 20,000 other people with no issues haven't said anything.
@eug: I figured that's how everyone would pick them up, they don't have a handle and very few would bend to the floor to pick it up by the base. I saw a negative review from one person on Amazon that said that there unit clicked as it turned, as mine did, but they sent it back. I suspect that it may have been fractured or broken before we used it.
But yes, the overall complaints are about the cooling capacity which I'd agree with.
Fair call re comments, but isn't that what voting is for?

Voting gives no context. Some people downvote just because they didn't like the spelling or grammar in the post.
A comment will provide context - people posting about their experiences with a product will help other people determine if the issue is with the original poster's usage (or bad luck) or is something many other people experience.
I own one of these, fortunately the plastic body hasn't broken at all.
I agree although i didn't buy one but the one that i found had the body melted.
I'm pretty sure this model does not have a HEPA filter or app connection.
My bad, just copied the features from the eBay Page.
Not your fault, Dyson should know better with their own eBay store.
Yeah this has no hepa filters
Updated description.
That's what I want. I want a purifier as well as heater/fan.
It's a good heater, my one worked for 3 years but is dead now.
3 year life time is not so good tho..
No - I would think that given they come at a very premium price, you could argue that it should be replaced/repaired under ACL.
The lifetime of 3 years is terrible. I asked Dyson, and they can't repair it, so they just gave me a discount price for a new one (several hundred dollars off from the full price for most of their product, and it's not great). For 400$, going to ACL is a little bit too much hassle.
@hyc: You don't need to take them to court. You just need to Lodge e a complaint with fair trading, New South Wales. They will assign you a case and you just need to explain why you deserve a refund or replacement. In this case, dropping $400 means a reasonable person would expect it to last longer than three years as it costs far more than average.
@hyc: It's not definite, but I'd say you have a strong case. See my comment below but basically those manufacturer or store warranties can't substitute for ACL, they're in addition to it. When I spoke with Fair Trading NSW, the guy said those were generally the periods when manufacturers and retailers tended to be more lenient with returns - after that, that's when you go to FT NSW, Consumer Affairs Vic etc and open a case.
@y2k: Unless there's an "express warranty" e.g. "our products last a lifetime" they only need to provide a replacement within their warranty period, which Dyson states is 2 years for parts and warranty. Their offer of a $400 discount was above their obligation.
https://www.accc.gov.au/about-us/publications/consumer-guara…
https://www.nsw.gov.au/legal-and-justice/consumer-rights-and…
@Big L: I've read that document on consumer guarantees and the page you've linked before. Where did you see a part about how they only need to provide a replacement within their warranty period (in this case 2 years)? On page 4 it specifically says "Express warrantees apply in addition to the consumer guarantees."
This is the ACCC's document on "reasonable durability".
From Page 1: "Consumer guarantees under the ACL apply for a reasonable time and in addition to any
warranties that manufacturers and/or suppliers sell or give to you. This means consumer
guarantees may continue to apply during the period of those warranties and after those
warranties expire. "
"How long you can expect a particular good to last depends on a number of factors, including:
- The nature of the good, which can include:
- The materials used or composition of the components and
- Whether the good is a new good or a factory second.
- The price of the good
- Statements made about the good, either on the packaging or by the supplier or
manufacturer (I assume this is the part you meant in your comment) and
- Any other relevant circumstances."
The document then lists a bunch of examples including a dishwasher one under "Price of the good". Obviously, there are no hard and fast rules anytime you argue what is "reasonable", but I would say dropping hundreds on a heater would lead most people to expect it to last more than two years.
I was referred to this by a guy from Fair Trading NSW.
Not criticising, as we all want to know what our options are, just keen for a source and to find out if I'm wrong.
@y2k: Express warranties are warranties that are implied, not written, so to speak.
Dyson state that their warranty is two years. If they were to suggest or imply that it will last 'at least 5 years', then 5 years is the expressed warranty.
You could make an argument that the cost of dyson goods is far above the usual, so there is a quality expressed there, but I wouldn't be hanging my hat on it. I guess that if I had to make the argument, I'd be implying that not only is the cost much higher, that the overall satisfaction and longevity others express (see if the site has references to attest) didn't occur for you and they should cough up.
My Big W $100 Oil Heater has lasted for more than 5 years.
As a heater how power hungry is this compared to a split system AC?
Probably about 4x more power, being about 4x less efficient.
This Dyson turns 1500W of energy into 1500W of heat. A (typical) split system AC turns 2000W of energy into 8000W of heat.
Technology connections heat pumps
Yes if you want to heat up the whole room. These can however be used as a personal heater to heat just where your sitting, say, which can end up using less power.
This is a pretty old model. They've been trying to flog them off for a while now.
IIRC you can also walk into the Dyson storefront and pick these up for the same price.
If I was going to buy one again, I'd ask the online store for a price match. At least then it's registered and they hold the receipt.
Looking to get a heater for a small 3x3m room that will be our nursery for a newborn. Would I be better off getting one of these or an oil column heater?
Similar situation. I opted for this De'Longhi heater and never looked back
https://www.amazon.com.au/DeLonghi-Portable-Electric-Convect…
Oil column, a bit safer.
Downside, takes forever to heat up (15 mins lead way).
Oil column, a bit safer.
and a LOT quieter
This is better if you wanna use it in the kids room
Has anyone bought Kogan's version of the Dyson heater/fan/filter? https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-smarterhome-bladeless-pur…
Looking to get a fan heater for my mum with a filter feature that doesn't have the Dyson price tag 🥲
is there a xiaomi version of the heater?
Unfortunately not.
We bought this 4 years ago for $399 and its serving our kids rooms quite well. I set the temp to 20 degrees and the unit turns on itself when it detects the temp dropping below, stays on for a min or two until the temp is back to 20 and then goes into hibernate mode until the temp drops again. Last night was quite cold in Sydney and this unit only used about 2kWh (60 cents) from 9pm to 5am.
Its safe for kids room as there are no blades and if it detects fall (as in someone pushes the unit to drop), it turns off by itself.
I will highly recommended for kids room but for grown ups, I am sure there are similar and cheaper options available.
PS. The fan is pretty bad though, it barely moves any air so don't buy it for the "cool" mode.

The metal blade does get hot though. At the back.

yes it does, but its not hot enough to burn your skin in less than a second upon touching. Our withdrawal reflexes usually kicks in quite quickly to avoid getting burn in such cases (at least that has been my experience).
I've had the OG version of this for close to 15 years.
While it hardly gets used these days, it's still working fine.
Similiar experience. I had the 1st version for over 8 years now and i am still use it every winter. It's turned on as I type this
I have this.
I reckon it's too loud to have in the bedroom. Buyer beware.
I like to sleep with some sound
Then let me introduce you to my husband.
I like soothing sounds
got one this OP
had AM09for about 10 years now. Never missed a beat. only issue now is the lcd display which is garbled.
Unfortunately, this code no longer works. Please continue with your order.
I've been using an older model for about 5 years in a roughly 4m by 4m bedroom. Still works as well as on day one!
Not cheap but would buy one again if it ever breaks down.
(Mine has a Hepa filter but I haven't replaced it despite the red replacement warning image)
I own one of these, unfortunately. The plastic body broke too easily.
