I'm waiting for Non-Pro Disc version to go on sale in Amazon….. right here waiting…

  • I can't decide between xbox and play station anymore, so what would it cost to get a computer that can play games on a 75 inch TV…..

    • +6

You’re better off getting an Xbox or ps5 imo. Pretty much anything that’s released these days comes out on both.

Apart from random indie games /early access or the handful of exclusives on either system.

      • Even previously Xbox exclusive games are now getting PS5 ports, so if I was getting a console now a PS5 would be the go.

        • +5

Don’t dismiss the value of Gamepass.. does complicate which to get. I’ve played so many games that I’d never have tried if having to pay for each individually.

          • -3

@dlcx: Ps have Games catalogue too fyi. Which is the same

            • +2

@JMxoxo: Yeah it's not as good value though. All the games coming out on PlayStation right now are Microsoft games..so gamepass is a no brainer.

          • @dlcx: It's great value for some people, especially if you've got heaps of time to game. I had an XSX and GamePass subscription from launch until I traded it in towards the PS5 Pro at it's launch last year and still found I barely used it, normally had a game or two I'd rather be playing over anything on GamePass.
I'd argue with less ways to get cheap GP subscriptions there's less value in it now than a few years ago, but it is definitely something to consider.

        • Game Pass, backwards compatibility, Quick Resume, Smart Delivery, Xbox Play Anywhere — there are plenty of reasons to opt for an Xbox, especially since the majority of PS5 exclusives are remasters of PS4 games. It's not so black and white.

Also, with Xbox Play Anywhere becoming more central with the Xbox Ally announcement, it's quite a big plus to be able to buy a digital game once and be able to play it on console, PC, handheld and even cloud if you have a GPU subscription.

      • Cheers. Then I get stuck in the rabbit hole of should I wait for the next gen…. :D

        • +1

One option I did (as an Xbox Series X owner who skipped PS4 gen) to get some hands on with the big PS exclusives was pick up a cheap PS4 Pro with 6 games for $100 off FB marketplace. I’ve added a few games like Ghosts, LOU 1 + 2, GoW etc many for $10. Graphics/performance are usually ok to experience them (granted not as good as a PS5)

Take the plunge, get a ps5 pro, use the jb hifi mobile plan hack to get it cheaper, if you can sweet talk telstra with refunding the $99 from the first month it will set you back about $840 with an additional disc drive included(after price matching with Big W) or $940 at the most if you cant sweet talk telstra

          • @Qazxswec: What’s the JB mobile hack? Don’t you have to buy a handset or go on a contract to get a gift card?

Sorry for asking, I just don’t know the details. If I can get the pro for $940 that would be awesome.

            • +2

@Graffin: long story short, you sign up for the $99 mobile plan through JB(partnered with Telstra), they give you a bonus $1100 JB gift card, then you go home and cancel it, telstra only make you pay back maximum $800 for the gift card, usually minus the 1st month so it equals about $765, you pay the first $99 but you can sometimes be nice to them when you cancel and ask for a refund for the first month which will give you back the $99, then ask JB for a price match with Big W on the PS5 Pro, that will make it $1049, add a $124 disc drive, totaling $1173, then use your $1100 gift voucher(which only cost you $864 max, $765 if you got the $99 first month refund) pay the extra $73, and you have a PS5 Pro and a disc drive for about $940($840 if you got the $99 refund from Telstra), goodluck

In my opinion this will be a really drawn out console generation. It’s certainly plateaued.

          • @JMxoxo: I agree. I have a 4090 with great CPU and ram hdd etc.. The ps6 will not beat it.

On that basis alone I wouldn't be concerned about needing or missing out on ps6.. The PS5 holds up really well. They just aren't the jumps they used to be.

Like cyberpunk 77 was the first game in a long time where I could say, yep, that's the next level.. Hell divers 2 looks pretty sweet to my eyes.. But yeah given ps5 being quite strong I don't expect a 1200 console to do much better so I wouldn't stress.

What needs to happen is some game developers actually making dome good games… Can't just be remakes of cod, gears, halo.. Like where's all the new content?! It just feels like games from when I was younger with new graphics..

I love basketball and I'm shocked with so many platforms and so much graphics power now to play with.. There's only NBA 2k or nothing? No NBA jam, no street ball, hang time.. It's like Fifa and 2k.. Literal monopolies and it's taken the joy from gaming a little bit.

            • +1

@BusMan247: Lol I have a 3080ti yada yada also along with all the other consoles and lately been dusting off the older gen games due to that last paragraph. 360 and ps3 holds up great still especially on a good tv. But the downside there is the clanky controls and whack povs on shooters. But I well and truly share the pain there

I've got them all due to bad habits but I should not have spent $2800 on a PC which suits there unused. Thankfully mining has made it effectively cheaper but that horse has bolted now.

First, ask yourself: how many games do I play.
If lots and deep pockets, PC. But you're paying for minimal visual improvement, or the pleasure of a mouse and keyboard
If lots and want to save $2000+ then Xbox with gamepass
If less then PlayStation as the controller is so much better imho but the subscription is relatively balls

I mostly play switch because it goes on and off really quickly which is helpful with kids around. Also it doesn't need a TV, I never use it docked. Although I've just bought a PlayStation portal which I'm looking forward to.

    • +1

Consoles have the amazing feature of pausing a game and just resuming it where you left off. It's great in games that don't allow you to save anytime you want. If you want to play games on your TV, consoles are more comfortable. With a PC, you need a keyboard and a mouse to be able to control your PC. Steam has Big Picture, but you need to launch it first and log in to your computer, and it is not the same as consoles.

I started playing Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered on my Pro + OLED combo last week, genuinely the most beautiful video game I've ever played

  • +12

Selling a 'Pro' console without a disc drive is such a head scratching decision from Sony. Very hard to justify that price when you need to spend an extra $130 just to complete the device.

    • +4

I went over 6 months without even feeling like I needed a disc drive. I bought Spacemarine digitally and have just been playing PS+ titles since. If I didn't own an RDR2 disc I probably would have gone even longer. Each to their own really.

      • +2

For me, it’s a nice to have, I buy games preowned and when I’m finished playing them, I sell/trade them in so I get some value of the game for cheaper in a sense.

        • +1

I guess this is why they want to go diskless, to own the market

      • I find it interesting that I'm always thrown a downvote for simply adding my positive experience as a Pro user.

      • As someone who has a large collection of games and prefers to posses an offline copy of a game over a digital rental license that can be revoked at any time, a 'Pro' console would almost definitely need a disc drive to be worth while. The name 'Pro' sort of implies that it should have the best of all features for the generation, yet they have removed something that the standalone console has, which has been an essential part of video game consoles for my entire lifespan. Like the other user said, it seems to just be a manipulative greed tactic to control the market and how video game media is consumed. Buying into their nonsense and attempting to defend it is just allowing them to further their tactics and take away features and ownership from the end user.

        • I'm not defending the business decisions. I'm defending the experience of using the device. I agree they're not great value - but they also objectively provide the best Playstation experience. I didn't own a PS5 until December so to me it would be insanity to not jump straight into the Pro. I've since added a disc drive as well and I'm absolutely loving the experience overall. It cost me a lot more, but for some things in life I'm happy to pay a premium.

    • In Sony's mind, the console is complete without a disc drive. It's just a preference of many to pair it with one for obvious reasons.

      • +1

Which is Sony essentially being hypocrites really after all of the trolling they did on Xbox when Microsoft originally made the choice to remove the disc drive from the Xbox One, and will be 100% true if Sony decides to not offer a disc drive option for the PS6:

        https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NOTGDKUYAm8&pp=ygUXUGxheVN0YXR…

        • Their dig at Microsoft was for their choice to restrict the sale of used games (licence was owned by original buyer) due to the implementation of their new game sharing system, and had nothing to do with optical disc drives.

          • @topherboi: That’s not contending with my point though. The other member said it’s obvious the Sony wants to do away with a disc drive option and physical disc media for their games, and I agree. Sony in the past has promoted themselves as being supportive of having a disc drive option because it’s important for exactly what you said, game sharing, but if Sony no longer offers a disc drive option for the PS6 then that’s exactly what they’re doing too restricting game sharing, hence Sony are hypocrites for attacking Microsoft in the past when they themselves are now doing the same.

            • @HuzzahIndeed: What makes you think that could be reality?

It just sounds like speculation at this point. I personally don't think the PS6 will be a digital-only console, but this is unfortunately the direction that the entire entertainment industry is heading.

              • -1

@topherboi: What is your point? Of course it’s speculation, but your comment at them moment is really just coming across that you want to argue for the sake of it as a fanboy in defence of Sony. Man children argue about brand loyal and I’m not interested in doing that.

“ What makes you think that could be reality?” What they are currently doing with the PS5 pro is evidence to suggest they might make that decision, so that’s what has made me think that. What does it matter if you disagree, I said my opinion, are you expecting me to change it to align with yours?

                • @HuzzahIndeed: We could also speculate that the PS6 will also have some exorbitent price at release, but it too would be without merit.

I don't even own a console anymore, so I'm not loyal to any brand, therefore I don't need to pick sides.

What they are currently doing with the PS5 pro is evidence to suggest they might make that decision, so that’s what has made me think that.

I read that as they are just giving customers options, pay less for digital-only or pay more for disc compatibility. Each to their own.

                  • -1

@topherboi: Well I’m not loyal to any brand either, I own every PlayStation and Xbox console going back to the PS1.

Maybe they’re just trying to give the customer more options, but that’s not an objective argument against my opinion.

It’s not without merit at all for the reason I have already said, evidence is there to suggest it and make the argument. You just subjectively disagree, that doesn’t make you right.

At the moment it feels like to me that you argue similar to one of these 2 immature gen Z gay atheists who disrespected Jordan Peterson and then went on in another debate and got owned by Andrew Wilson and Jay Dyer

What evidence? All you've provided is your opinion on something that could happen.

                      • -1

@topherboi: Where’s your evidence? You’ve got the problem with my original comment and have weirdly got upset over it enough to quote to me and want to argue over it to tell me I’m wrong, like you’ve got nothing better to do with your time.

What I have said is Sony’s current marketing strategy is evidence to suggest it, if you disagree then attack it from on objective standpoint, otherwise run along and have a root with your partner, be a parent, or do something else productive with your life which is what you should be doing instead of pointlessly starting and provoking an argument.

                        • @HuzzahIndeed:

                          Where’s your evidence?

What have I stated that you think requires evidence?

What I have said is Sony’s current marketing strategy is evidence to suggest it

What is Sony's current marketing strategy exactly?

                          • @topherboi: That you disagree that it’s not a possibility and there’s no sign or evidence of it at all happening in Sony’s current marketing approach and strategy. For you to win you need to prove the that there is no signs whatsoever that the industry has been pushing to moving away from physical discs, and there is zero indication that Sony are getting on board with following the trend.

                            • @HuzzahIndeed:

That you disagree that it’s not a possibly

Where did I state that what you are speculating isn't possible?

                              • -1

@topherboi: Then why are you arguing? By you arguing you’re stating that you disagree with me because all I have said is it is a possibility, not that it will happen. Quote where I have said it will happen? Nowhere did I say that, all I have said is there is evidence to suggest it and support the claim in their current marketing approach and strategy. If you don’t agree with that then the onus is on you to prove the that there is no signs whatsoever that the industry has been pushing to moving away from physical discs, and there is zero indication that Sony are getting on board with following the trend.

I made a comment, you responded giving your opinion stating that you disagree “- personally don't think the PS6 will be a digital-only console.” Every post after my original post is meaningless, what’s the purpose? As I said are you wanting me to change my mind and agree with you? For that to happen you need to present an objective argument, I am not going to agree with your comment where you stated that you don’t think it will happen just because you say so, you need to do the work and convince me with facts. I haven’t been arguing to convince you to change your mind.

    • I'm glad this little experience let them rest the water before ps6.

I guarantee you ps6 will have a drive.

Or does anyone here like paying rrp for games you must be online for and take hours to download. Lol what a joke. These pricks.

I’ve had a Pro since last November, I was using it quite a bit when I first bought it, but it hasn’t gone on much over the last few months. I don’t think there’s enough new fresh ideas for games these days, and many genres have pretty much gone away since the PS1 and PS2 days. As much as I like some remasters, remakes and sequels of some series, that’s what most of the best games on PS5 are. Leaving out some game rentals I have on my PS+ account, these are the games I own on PS5 most of them on disc, and the also the games that are coming soon that I’m most excited for.
