  • If I sign up to Superloop via this, do I get $100 gift card from econnex and $70 cash back from topcashback plus the $20 off a month for 6 months?

    • +2

It relies on clicking through a link so it can track the sale. So it's one or the other.

  • Do people just bounce between the two cheapest providers, as they churn for each Econnex deal?

  • A lot of the utility providers are doing hard credit checks now. Makes it harder to churn.

    • Is there a list of which providers do/don't do credit checks?

      • +1

Not that I’ve found. A lot of comments on these past posts from people saying they got checked. I most recently got a hard check from EnergyAustralia.

      • +2

Would be nice if we have a list - so far people in this thread have mentioned EA and OVO. I personally had a credit check from Powershop as well.

        • +1

whats the downside to these hard credit checks?

  • +1

    Thanks OP.

Does anyone know if we can sign up for tge the bonus and get a referral link for Ovo Energy?

Or is it either / or?

    • probably or. There's no place during signup to add it. You give your details to econnex, and they set up the plan with ovo

Side note, OVO has been bought out by AGL, so all customers will be switched over at some point. Who knows when that will happen

  • Has anyone received their gift card from the Econnex deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/897304) in March yet?

    • No they wouldn't have yet, waiting on my Feb GC at the moment

Update: received my feb gc today

      • Did you receive any emails or confirmations prior to receiving the gift card?

        • Nope, had to search econnex as it went to gmail promotions folder. Basically looks 100% like a scam email so will definitely be in your junk or spam folder

          • @Brick50: Yeah I would have skipped over it normally because it went straight to promotions and the sender, subject etc had no mention of econnex and the company was unfamiliar to me, all red flags. It's only when I opened it that I saw any form of refference to econnex.

            • @AmperSand: Yes search Cimet or Karta in your emails

              • @Brick50: Yeah when I got $100 credit, I then searched Karta in Gmail and found a $200 one from the previous day I would have totally missed.

          • @Brick50: Ive changed with Econnex but i haven't received any email whatsoever yet so i thought i would check. Were you saying that you didnt get an email until you got a giftcard?

  • Do you guys reckon it's makes sense to churn for the GC even if the Elec/Gas usage rate would be higher?

    —Gas—
    Current (powershop)
    Daily Supply Charge - 87.35 c/day
    Usage - 2.55 c/MJ

    New (alinta)
    Daily Supply Charge - 79.904 c/day
    Winter Usage - First 100.00 MJ per day - 3.267 c/Mj
    Winter Usage - Remaining - 2.53 c/Mj
    Non-Winter Usage - First 100.00 MJ per day - 3.025 c/Mj
    Non-Winter Usage - Remaining - 2.42 c/Mj

    —Elec—
    Current (Powershop)
Daily Supply Charge - 107.08 cents per day
Peak all usage - 24.77 cents per kWh

    New (OVO)
Daily Supply Charge - 97.9 cents per day
Peak all usage - 25.74 cents per kWh

    • +1

      Depends on usage:

For Gas Alinta is cheaper on supply charge

Usage rate could be higher in winter under 100 MJ/day (3.267 c/MJ), but overall it’s similar or slightly better

If you use low to moderate then, Alinta may actually be cheaper overall.

OVO is ~9.2c/day cheaper on supply ($33.58/year saved)

      OVO usage is ~0.97c/kWh higher

      Break-even point:
If you use <~9.5 kWh/day, OVO could still be cheaper overall

Let’s say the gift card (GC) is worth $100 — a typical incentive.

If switching causes the person to pay a little more on usage rates, ask:

Will I pay more than $100 extra over 12 months?

      In most cases — no:

For gas: even if Alinta is slightly more expensive in winter, the lower supply charge often offsets it.

For electricity: unless the household uses a lot of power daily, the supply charge savings almost cancel out the slightly higher usage rate.

      Verdict
Yes, churning for the gift card makes sense if:

The user doesn’t have very high daily electricity use (>9.5 kWh/day)

They’re not ultra-heavy gas users in winter (100+ MJ/day consistently)

They plan to stay for 12+ months

Even marginal increases in usage rates will usually be offset by the sign-up bonus and lower supply charges — and they can always churn again next year.

      • cheers mate, that makes sense. just have to churn further to get ahead.

  • Tempted to move to Powershop (electricity) for the GC and retailer's $200 credit, but will be paying much higher rates. It will cost $35-40 more per month (9-11kWh/day usage and 7-10kWh/day solar export). I will churn again as soon as I receive the GC and have used up the credit.

    Am I missing anything important?

    Current (AGL)
Daily Supply Charge - 89.364 cents per day
Peak all usage - 32.01 cents per kWh
    FIT rate - 5c/kWh (10c/kWh on first 10kWh/day)

    New (Powershop)
Daily Supply Charge - 122.0172 cents per day
Peak all usage - 34.4521 cents per kWh
    FIT rate - 1.4c/kWh

    • that FIT rate change is diabolical

    • Bugger. AGL is raising their price to below:

      1-July-25 (AGL)
Daily Supply Charge - 105.729 cents per day
Peak all usage - 36.795 cents per kWh
      FIT rate - 4c/kWh (10c/kWh on first 10kWh/day)

Which reminds me the prices displayed on econnex are possibly going to change as well?

  • Does anyone know how to sort "Electricity Tariff Type' in Econnex search results. It defaults to Single rate and I am after Time of use…

Thanks op. Just signed up another round of electricity and gas + 20 dollars woolies rewards incentive for google review lol

    • where do you get the 20 dollars woolies incentive for google review?

      • econnex sent a request for review on your sms after you sign up to an energy company through them

  • Just received GC from the feb deal. Internet and electricity.

  • Does anyone know if i can stack this deal with the ShopBack $160 offer? When I go to Shopback it doesn't link me to the 'promo-june' Econnex page.

Signed up in March for $200 cash back, still waiting……..

    • I signed up on 20 Feb and got it 2 days ago.. So you'll need to wait a bit more.

  • Getting an error in the form: 'Australian passport must be equal to 8 characters'?

  • Is there any benefit from churning NBN to Superloop? I hear there is an issue with 30 day notice assuming that eats into a month of payments eg $65

  • How do people churn gas? I signed up for gas over a month ago. I saw someone do the meter read 2 weeks ago.. still hasn't transferred across. Is it 45 days from when new retailer get the account or do i need to wait 2-3 months and then another 45days?

  • I have a Powershop power pack for July which hasn’t been applied - if i switch to engie using this offer will they adjust the $30 bucks I paid against the June bill or refund ?

Has anyone switched from Powershop with power pack unused - what happens to the money you paid to buy the power pack ?

    • forfeited

      • Thanks mate - hopefully we have a better offer in 30 days

    • Ring PowerShop.
Ask what happens with it if you leave.
Could request refund of what you paid to your account. (To be refunded when you leave.)

Sure you wouldn't be the first to ask!
PS must have a process for this.
      Worth a try!

      My experience…
In past didn't read email from PowerShop to update concession details.
6 months later realised bill was almost $1/d higher than expected.

      Contacted PS.
Told was unlikely they could refund the $150. Complex as was State Govt daily rebate. They would need to claim that back from Govt.

      But they did🎉
PowerShop were very nice about it.
Received refund as credit to my account.
Later left. All credit was automatically refunded to my Direct Debit bank account!!

      Why I like PowerShop👍

  • Dammit what happened to Origin on Econnex. Wanted to change gas and theres only Engie with 27% discount

  • Has anyone received the $20 voucher for doing the Econnex google review? I did mine about 4 weeks ago and still waiting.

    Thanks OP.

    Moving electricity across…

    Signed up to switch now…
    Confirmed in Ecconex email.

Discovered $200 MC from last electricity switch on 23/2 in email received on 11/6. Activated💰

Check Ecconex emails. Only have 1 month to activate MC!!
Spent the last $200 MC from switch 2/12, received on 3/4💰

As usual, still in credit with retailer, so no bill to pay. Just a refund😄

Never paid for electricity in years thanks to Ecconex Deals, retailer credits, & Govt Rebates. Pure profit!
(All electric aircon Qld home, no solar)

Set reminder to switch ~1/8 (45+d)😉
    Check 15/10 for $175 MC email (120d)

    • Can you switch in 45+ days and still receive the MC? Or do you have to wait until the gift card email shows up before switching?

      • Yes - "successfully Switch and stay connected for a minimum of 45 days your Electricity plan… receive a $175 Digital Prepaid Mastercard"

No need to wait longer. As I showed, MC email takes up to 120d!

I've switched electricity with Econnex many times & always received the offered benefit.

        • Thanks @INFIDEL. My 45 days will be up on 4/8 and will be moving on 5/8

    • are we supposed to receive a confirmation on the signup with the Promotion details? I received about my signup but it doesn't state anywhere about the MCs.

      • +1

email only confirms your switch details.
Contains your Reference # in case need to PM Rep manyo.

Never has shown the MC offer.
Always received offer in years of Ecconex Deals.

Offer is shown in Deal link, when switching.
Once Deal expires, that link disappears.
Best to screenshot offer when switching.
