  • Case Thickness: 13.6mm

    That's over half an inch thick… 😲

    • +5

That's fairly thick, but not as thick as some.

    • +1

Well.. I guess we can’t argue with the math

      • +4

        Maths

        • -1

I'm knot shore if it matters.

          • +6

            @WatchNerd: Yep

In American English, the preferred term is "math", while in British English (and Australia), "maths" is used. Both are contractions of "mathematics" and are considered correct, but the preferred usage depends on regional preference.

    • I have Omega Constellation, which is 13.5 mm, and everyone is impressed by it

      https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-constellation-co-ax…

      • Not bad, of Roman numerals is your thing.
Taste of watches is pretty personal.

    • Why not both

      • Can only afford one mate lol

        • I’m a bit bias but I’d go the one in my post lol

    • +2

Have a look at both in a store if you can.
Fairly different fitting but similar Hard wear.

    • -3

Very similar but almost half the price on Amazon. Not a GMT but that is just the bezel.

Go for it but plenty of better or different watches in that category. It has an old movement (7S26) not as much power reserve where as the 4R35 is a great new movement - no point if you don't want/need GMT but better off getting a modern movement with date only.

        • Thanks for the clarification. No wonder they looked relatively cheap. I am not in the market atm.

  • +2

thank op but would wait for a cheaper ECO-drive

  • +3

IMO - this colour is the best looking of the newest release - https://starbuy.com.au/seiko-5-sports-42-5mm-mens-automatic-…

It's stunning in person. Great watch.

    • +1

Yeah it did have me wondering after just watching the teddy bulbasaur overview

      • +1

I checked them all out in person at the Seiko boutique in Melbourne as I was having trouble deciding between the older batman version or the new white one.

Seeing them in person made it an easy decision. Looks crisp in natural light.

        • Seiko boutique

I was in Melbourne last weekend but I didn’t have time to drop in 😭

          • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: I'd go with better legibility, can read quickly at a glance and probably end up holding onto it.

          • +2

@Jimothy Wongingtons: The Grand Seiko boutique is (finally!) open, too, and it’s not far from the Seiko boutique. I was close by when visiting Melbourne for work so I dropped in and spent a very pleasant half hour being encouraged by a friendly staff member, Andrew, to fondle handle and try on some lovely looking watches that are nearly a quarter my yearly salary. 5 stars - would recommend!

            • +1

@Chazzozz: Im going to Melbourne again in August , I’ll try to make time (haha)! Have always thought a grand seiko would be nice if I ever ‘make it’

              -Dentist: You're brushing wrong

              -Nutritionalist: You're eating wrong

              -Parents: You're living wrong

-Rolex: You're not worthy. Go and die

-Grand Seiko: How may I serve you today tomorrow and forever?

    • Absolutely, I've always wanted to get this colorway, is just stunning and incredible value than the OP. The additional $32 is a no brainer IMO.

  • +2

I know it’s irrelevant, but I was able to pick up a second hand SPB147 recently in as new condition for not much more than this price.

    Couldn’t be happier.

  • This or tudor?

    • In certain countries, people buy a Tudor so that they can qualify to buy a Rolex.

So no, don't buy a Tudor, it only exists as a prerequisite to buy a Rolex.

      • +1

I do have a soft spot for bb58 rootbeer

        • +1

Completely unrelated but a friend of mine called the GMT LHD the Ned Flanders which I think is much better than Starbucks

        • exactly, nothing wrong with the Brand is still better than Omega in general.
I'd happily have a BB58 or Pelagos 39, would be difficult to choose.
Even the Rangers are growing on me.

      • No it doesn't. People also buy an ugly rolex to be allowed to buy the popular ones. Tudor are cool watches in their own right.

  • +1

These are absolutely great watches, I own the SSK001 which is one of my most favourite watches. It's just the Jubilee strap, that makes it very dressy and I don't find it suitable to wear casually., catches too much attention., it's a very good watch for the money and great value.

  • This and the white one look amazing. About to get a home loan so I will restrain myself for the new dedication.

    • Well, there’s always afterpay … nah maybe it’s better to be financially responsible.

      • +1

It's a decent option, $125 every second week.
        Yolo and FOMO brother!

  • Caller GMT.

  • Am I reading that right? Daily tolerance of -35s/+45s a day?

    • Does seem to be unless everyone copied and pasted wrong data. I main a ssc813p and that’s supposed to be +- 15 per month

      • Yeah that tolerance seems more acceptable.

    • +2

      AI Overview
The Seiko 4R34 movement, also known as the NH34, has a factory-rated accuracy of -20 to +40 seconds per day according to DIY Watch Club. This is a common, affordable automatic GMT movement used in many Seiko 5 GMT watches.

You'd be unlucky to get one that bad. Just take it past a watch shop to check it (of you care) or just time it over a few days. Sometimes they are magnetised.

You have to set the time anyway or adjust with autos so I wouldn't worry about it (and get some quartz watches 😉).

      • Even -20s/+40s a day is a big range. I'm a stickler for accuracy, and I adjust my expectations accordingly for budget movements. But with a 41 hour power reserve and that wild tolerance range, seems like 4R34 is not for me.

Shame though, that movement is on quite a few nice colourways..

        • That is the tolerance range. Typically you'd get +6 to +16 if you are lucky.

Sounds like you should get a quartz, high accuracy quartz or spend a heap on a spring drive or expensive Auto.

          • +1

@G-rig: Agreed. I'm intrigued why insist on an auto if it's stickler for accuracy. Just get a nice looking Eco drive and call it a day.. So many to choose from from a wide range of budgets, sizes and designs.

            • @zxcvb: It's probably the engineering and tradition, it's nice to have one or two at some stage.

Yeah solar quartz and eco drives keep great time, I've got a few of each. Great to grab and go, only need to adjust the date sometimes and trim a few seconds off every few months if you want. Casios and G-Shocks don't really need to do anything, especially with bt sync :).

      • Affirm, most perform much better than this!
Britt Pearce has a good review of this model as well.

Great mechanical GMT for the $$$

  • How do you actually get the sign up bonus? I created an account but didn't get any code to use.

    • Incognito mode if you have already dismissed it before the enter email for newsletter signup pop up shows, sometimes the pop up is slow to load, linger for about 30 seconds on home page

      • +1

        Thanks, that worked!

  • OOS.

    • Updated

      • Lucky for you, removes the temptation haha.

$531 on watch direct (with code) if anyone missed out.

        • Yeah I know!

$531 is less attractive than $474.

What are the odds of them restocking before the sale ends?

          • @pks: Or yeah forgot about the starbuy signup.

Probably not likely based on previous weekend sales, the stock counter seems accurate. Worth checking back anyway but you could always ask them Monday.

        • +2

From Deepak: "Unfortunately all the quantity received from Seiko at the lower price is all sold out."

          • +2

@pks: Ah that’s ok , there will always be a better deal for a nicer piece - just a matter of time

            • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: AliExpress sale starts tomorrow, jomw YouTube has a video of suggestions :P.

I've got the Seiko ssk023 field GMT that is also one to consider if you can get for around $350-400. Don't really wear it often but is a great size and the bracelet very comfortable. Just getting lazy to set autos with date a lot of the time.

  • +1

Thanks OP, missed out on the green but bought SSK001K for a present for $490.
