Been thinking of getting this for months, and finally I've made up my mind.
Not the cheapest but, hey, you can get bonus gift card of $50 valid for 3 years (bonus offered until 15 June 2025).

I feel for OP, who may now be back in the valley of indecision despite the months it took to even get to this point.
Hahaha, as I mentioned, I've made up my mind. My consideration was mainly if I need it or not. I still don't think I need it, but I ordered it anyway.
Good alternative!
Where you can get momentum 4 for $279?
Yeah I copped the momentum 4 from Amazon ($270 and $10 SB cashback). Sold my XM5 for $300.
The Sennheiser do sound better, the are pros and cons so just do your research.
I guess with the gift card the XM4 would be fine for that price (if you can find anything else at HN).
People on the sony sub also report selling their Sony for the Sennheiser while nobody on the Sennheiser is reporting selling their Sennheisers for Sony. It's clear which one is superior, at this point people are buying the sony as they like the name and also it has more a tad more base.
Yeah there are pros and cons (The AI response I Googled is fairly accurate, and there are definitely pros and cons but for outright sound quality I prefer the Sennheiser. I was worried about the clamping force/comfort but they get better after a few days. The ANC is much better on the Sony but I don't really fly that much.
Both need some EQ out of the box, they typically have way too much bass. I found these settings are pretty good on the momentum 4 (sometimes change bass to -4db).
63hz: -6db, 250hz: -6db, 1000hz: +6db , 4000hz: +6db , 8000hz: -6db
@G-rig: I ran a deep research using Gemini.
The WH-1000XM5 wins for:
Noise cancelling.
Superior Microphone.
Sony app and ecosystem.
While the Sennheiser wins:
Sound quality.
Battery life (30 vs 60).
Durability.
Overall value.
Better wireless experience.
Again if people love sony they should go for it. Similar to how if people love apple they should go with apple.
Also have you seen Jaakko on GitHub?
Jaakko releases recommended settings for all headphones.
Jaakko has settings for the Sennheiser 4 with AC on and the 4 with AC off
@SarcasticEmu: Yeah that sounds about right.
Sony is a bit lighter and more comfortable but Sennheiser feel like they are better made.
Will check it out properly, so long as you can apply the settings and save to preset in the Sennheiser app. Some of these things are for desktop PC setups and wired headphones (if it's anything like Peace APO Equalizer. Edit: looks like can set the levels for 1-5 on the EQ.
@G-rig: Just noticed I actually linked to wrong profile.
That's actually the true wireless which is different from the moments 4.
Anyway, was also messing around and stumbled on this app called Poweramp.
If you haven’t tried it, turns out it actually lets you use parametric EQs on Android.
You can even load presets from people like oratory1990, ratings, Crinacle.
That said, I think EQ stuff really comes down to the kind of music you listen to and what sounds good to you. So take it with grain of salt.
But, still, could be worth checking out.
@SarcasticEmu: No worries, not worried about it too much, all those other apps smash the battery on your phone. I think the settings above work pretty well and better than the stock settings, give them a go!
Great deal, if you count the gc it's pretty much ATL. I don't think XM4s needs any more vouching, but mine has been going strong after 4+ years of abuse.
You guys should checkout Amazon business account 😁
Great suggestion
Just as a comparison you can get the momentum 4 for $279. Just for reference the Sony reddit sub say the momentum 4 are better sounding.
