Savings account might be 4% a year. Buy a gift card at 4% off at spend it in a month & you're much better off.

      • +3

Plus, interest is taxable, so yet another net positive for the gift card. Even if it takes you a year to use it, you're doing better than pure interest. Of course, that assumes you're not needing that cash value for other expenses.

        • +2

Bonus cashback is in addition to standard cashback. Woolworths gift card will be 4% bonus + 1% standard cashback.

        • +1

          Two options:

          1. Put $Y in a savings account to earn $0.04Y a year later. Then pay your marginal tax rate on the $0.04Y, probably 30% x $0.04Y so you're left with $0.028Y gain.
          2. Buy $Y of Woolies gift cards for $0.95Y, so you instantly gain $0.05Y tax-free. Invest the saved $0.05Y in a savings account and earn an extra $0.0014Y after-tax by the end of the year. Total gain $0.0514Y. Assuming you were going to spend $Y at Woolies at any point during the year, this option is 183% better than the savings account option.
    • You're assuming everyone here will buy woolies giftcard and hold on to it for 12 months. If thats the case, interest in bank may be marginnaly better than cashback of 5%

But purchasing woolies gift card to use the next day is a almost a instant 5% savings over 24 hours

It’s amazing how little ppl understand how interest rate work. This is how bank is making so much money.

    • I can get 4% at RACv, where do you get 5%?

      • +1

Have an old person ? Get their senior card and get 5%

      • +1

If you have access to a NSW Seniors Card or VIC Seniors Card, you can get 5% off Everyday WISH eGift Cards everyday from the Woolworths Group gift card website.

    • You don't pay tax on Cashback though. and you need to wait 1 year to earn the full interest, but if you're spending it in the next 3 months then your interest is closer to 1% BEFORE TAX.

qantas market place offers 3x QF points for wish. Considering the credit card points itself, maybe better value than this one

Purchased Everyday WISH card. Standard cashback tracked in 2 minutes, bonus cashback tracked in 7 minutes.

    • My standard Cashback has tracked straight away. Order over an hour ago and bonus not yet tracked.

      • Mine was paid with a Westpac card. Was yours paid entirely using a linked eligible card?

        • @jasonc74 There was a delay with the St George bank tracking in the May offer mentioned here. May have to contact GYB if not tracked soon.

      • +1

        Has now tracked.

  • Bought the gc but it said the link is invalid??

    • +1

I get that if I don't disable AdGuard Home in my router. (I think AdGuard Home may also break tracking when you click through to a store from ShopBack.)

  • Didn’t they used to have 10% off big w gift cards?

And what happened to the EG ones? From memory they also yield more than 5% savings

    • I checked a few of the previous offers including this May offer. Big W gift cards have been 6% off. The only difference is without EG gift cards at 5% off in this promo.

    • +1

Yes, the deal last month was better, considering that the EG gift cards had 6% total cashback (and they work at Woolworths for groceries).

      • @Chris T. What? EG egift cards work at Woolworths supermarkets?

Is that written somewhere or did you try it and it worked?

Shopback site says - 'You can redeem this Gift Card in store at participating EG Ampol fuel sites', and while above it says to check 'For full Store Gift Card Terms and Conditions and a list of participating stores visit woolworths.com.au/giftcards' EG is not an option to even buy so no details for use on Woolies site that I could find.

Saving 6% is much better but I'd like confirmation I could use at Woolies supermarket.

        • +1

Officially speaking, it is not supposed to work. (That is what you see written on the ShopBack website, as well as the Woolworths Group & Partner gift card terms and conditions.)

Unofficially speaking, it probably still works. This is the most recent discussion I can find on this topic, but keep in mind this is from a month ago, and Woolworths Group may have changed something since to limit the gift card's redemption to EG Ampol service stations.

@WookieMonster: Yes, I bought and used it thanks to that post.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Thank you so much @WookieMonster or should I call you, 'Master of all things gift cards'. 😍

I appreciate you supplying the links as while I may have seen the post, I did not read the comments to see what others had written about the EG gift card usage.
If that works it makes me wonder if any other of their gift cards would work in store. 🤔I may give it a try and see.

This is great info to know as EG usually have more % than others so i will keep an eye out from now on. It used to be that supermarket gift cards had more than WISH but alas, that is no more.

Thanks again for your help and input. Much appreciated. :-)

It works for me (as of Tuesday this week), and others have reported this too.

          • +1

@Chris T: Thanks for your reply @Chris T. I will keep an eye out to buy one from now on and test it out.
Hopefully it will continue working for the long term as much better value. I appreciate you commenting about it so thank you. :-)
