4 star fridge uses about 250-300 kWh per year. Which is under $100 a year in running cost, I wouldn't call it terrible.
You've got me puzzled. There are a lot of fridges with a far worse rating than 4 stars, and not a lot with a better rating.
If you look at the selling website, they have 4 fridges in that size range… 3 have a 4 star rating, and 1 has a 4.5 star rating.
What fridge do you have?
that might be for a smaller fridge. this uses 329kw and costs $178.81 per year according to energy ratings site.
So it's comparable to many fridges, with annual running cost about 25% of purchase price.
$178 would be if you add daily electricity supply cost exclusively for the fridge. Otherwise, it's 329 kWh × ~$0.32 c/kWh = around $100 per year.
4 star energy rating. This thing will cost more to run than to purchase
