Good if you're just after the shaver unit, but this link is missing the Smartcare Centre.

Opps, I missed that part. Also, realised can the one I linked above for $319 on ebay currently.

Got this near end of last year when there was a cashback trade in offer, think I ended up about $360 out of pocket
Lots of debate about this vs the reliable old model (think it’s series 7)

    My experience only:
➖Shaver is incredibly quick to use/does a good job shaving. Much faster than previous and reckon it’s less work and effort to shave. Could be due to the updated design of the head
➖Some say it doesn’t shave as close. In my experience I can see where this feedback comes from. I’m not the hairiest but a shave can get me through 2 days in the office with a little shadow at the end of the second day. Reckon the old model was a tad closer as I’d get through 2 days with no shadow BUT (see below)
➖I NEVER have issues with ingrown hairs with this shaver, curly beard grower and even with the old model on the most sensitive setting I’d cop ingrown hairs in neck every third or so shave.
➖shaver isn’t intended to cut many days of growth, for best results if you do let ya hair grow trim it first then shave with this OR just shave every 1-3 days depending how fast you grow
➖ have never used wet shave function but wet function will be good for travel being able to clean it with water and get another shave (my skin used to crack the shits if I shaved with a ‘dirty’ shaver)

I’ll also say the cleaner unit is a much sleeker and aesthetic design to leave on your bathroom bench permanently. Cleaner feels noisier and seems to take longer but no issue with that
Other major change I wasn’t expecting in the upgrade is the old model 7 had a shave closeness button and three levels. Doesn’t exist on this model. And don’t be expecting an lcd screen on the shaver to be anything amazing

I also moved from a series 7 to series 9.

I'm a bit "meh" about the S9, which I've had for a couple of years now. A few points:

      • S9 shaving performance feels slightly better. But I still have to go over areas multiple times so takes a while.
      • The S9 feels cheaper. More metal in the S7, which I had for 10+ years.
      • The S9 beard trimmer is significantly worse.
      • The S9 charger base is handy. The need to buy to cleaning cartridges is not, although you can get away with barely using them.
      • I find a blowout with a handheld or AC dust blower does a really good job at cleaning.
      • My first S9 stopped working under warranty for some reason. Could have been cause I was using a non-first party charger, but who knows. Had to post it off to Melbourne for someone to fix.
      • Agree on beard trimmer, good call out. It’s underwhelming. Is a touch up beard trimmer. The previous you feel like you could reliably trim your whole face
On “blowout” I rinse shaver under water and take off the cartridge, rinse and tap it and amazed how much hair comes out from doing so, couldn’t do that with old model, have to think it keeps cleaner liquid needing a change less regularly

      • Would agree with this. The old S7 (not the new 360 flex) was much better. The new S9 feels flimsier.
Hate it when newer products go down in quality at a higher price.

      • I Agree also with what you have said.
I have the s9 pro as well.
It is dismal at shaving neck hairs; the saving grace is the pop-up clippers that come on it that I can use to cut the missed neck hairs which there is normally many of, even after several passes over with the shaver head, I would have sent it back for a refund otherwise.
The charging/cleaning station also broke after 1 year, full on stopped working all together.
And like you said for the price it really does feel cheap.
I personally would not recommend the s9 pro to anyone after my experience with it.

Bought this in 2023 with the cleaning station and it’s been terrible for me.

I shave every day, and I bought this to shave quickly while avoiding razor burn from safety razors. In that regard it’s done well.

    However:

    • It shaves well on the face, terribly on the neck. Just won’t catch the hairs, meaning I need to do a second shave with a safety razor regardless.
    • The power button broke after 13 months of usage (so out of warranty). Common problem, lots of complaints online.
    • Cleaning station gets blocked easily. It is not fun to clean

I don’t recommend this, but have yet to accept the sunk cost and buy a different brand/model so have no suggestions for an alternative.

The Panasonic shavers are so much better. Tried them all, Braun, Philips, Remington,… Imho Panasonic by far the best

    • +1

      Which Panasonic do you recommend

      • Keen to know as well
I’m currently looking at the Panasonic 5-blade ES-LV67

        • Just don't get the Amazon one which isn't sold by Amazon. Apparently it comes with a US charging cable.

  • My experience over the past 15 years: Panasonic shaves closer, but Braun is smoother to use. Not sure how to describe Braun, but it's easier to shave and quicker to finish. Panasonic shaves closer but more of a hassle.

I would like to move to Braun Series 9, but I stick with Panasonic because you can get their top tier shavers cheaper than Braun. E.g. the 5-blade Panasonics are as cheap as $249 when on sale, I think I've even seen $199, and you can get the complete blade sets as cheap as ~$75. Braun is such a big upfront cost for the series 9 shaver units, even when on sale.

  • Not sure how to describe Braun

It is 'German Precision' and 'German engineering' which apply to all German brand machines such as cars, washing machine, shavers.
As for shavers, series 9 pro or old model original series 7.
Japan unfortunately was ally of Germany at VW II during which they stole and copied all German intellectual property things (e.g. machine or car design, skeleton, planning) but German engineering and precision. That's why their crap cars are petrol/fuel hungry cause they could not steal and copy fine print codes of electronics. That is why jap crap cars are much cheaper. For example, they cannot replicate a German car's ECU. The same principle applies to 'cheap' Panasonic shavers, as well. Quality costs more. What you get what you pay for. Period. Finito. End. Das Ende.

    • germany has a very strong apprenticeship system, goes back to the era of guilds, this means german engineers and technicians are well trained.
