  • Thanks OP. Is anyone smarter than me able to say whether the 100W model here, is a better buy than something like this 130W Ugreen "column" charger? Obviously a different form-factor, but wondering what's better value for someone looking to occasionally charge their iPhone/Mac/iPad while travelling.

    • +1

The 130W you've shown is 100W + 30W (i.e. 130W).. so that's equivalent to the 20000mAHr version in this post, but costs $30 more… so this deal is better.
The 145W here has a higher output, so it is 'better value' than your linked power bank.

  • Can any of these be taken onto a plane?

    • +1

Yes, both can be (without requiring explicit pre-authorisation) as they're both under 100WHr (27,000mAHr).
Some airlines restrict the use and charging of power banks whilst on the plane however.

    • Yes. But I don't think you'll power it for long.

    • +1

Well the Xiaomi Zmi is supposed to be one of or if not the best charger on the market and ugreen is just ok. Catcus who has reviewed a crazy number of chargers said this about the ugreen and Xiaomi.

      • +1

cheers had the zmi one since 2022, need a second one but wasnt sure if anything better/cheaper has come along since its been a while

      • just to add to this. I saw a teardown of the Ugreen awhile ago so I will link it, they showed what battery was used inside (BAK 21700).
        https://youtu.be/-53cZ-Ho2kM?si=hcXhaFgBoN6WU1iu&t=226

never really heard of this brand BAK.

but according to Xiaomi ZMI No.20 feedback the Xiaomi originally used Samsung 21700 inside which was the best quality at the time. a more recent comment on ozbargain mentioned Xiaomi changed the batteries inside silently (many brands do this, such as Anker) to EVE 21700. I never heard of EVE before either, but from the negative stuff they said seems to have a higher failure rate than Samsung.

    • Apparently the 140w one is really bad if you are charging stuff at high wattage. Which doesn't inspire much confidence in the other one

Shuts off after a few minutes of 140w. Apparently it can't sustain 100w either. This dude says it does ~50w sustained

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFkNCLrx96U

According to the same reviewer, the zmi can do 100w sustained, with 200w for a short time

Not the end of the world though, not everyone needs to charge at high wattages until empty

      • Shuts off after a few minutes of 140w. Apparently it can't sustain 100w either.

yes I can't remember where so I don't have any source, but that's exactly what I heard too. can't do 100W for very long.

same with the 100W model it can't do what it claims.
