Non steam version. I have this one and it is great.
Different product, it's the 3k series - no steam function.
Anyone tested the steam version for its claimed easy clean of the basket? Will be a deal breaker if it lives up to the claim…
Hate when I'm told to use a inner liner when cooking .. defeats the purpose of an air fryer to me.I just bought this as it's back to the ATL and did some research before hand, most people say the steam clean does work as it breaks down the largest gunk but it's not a magic bullet. It'll still need a wipe down. Keep in mind the steam is inly on the largest basket as well, not on the smaller one so that's still a manual clean.
Thanks @Archi3 . Yeah looking at the reviews its easy clean as opposed to self clean. Might have a crack at this one still….. Now to get prepared for the marketing preso to the Missis for approval.
The baskets and inserts can be put in the dishwasher.
i'm about to pull a trigger on this, just wondering how is this one compare to the ninja dual basket?
is the steam just a gimmick or actually useful?Havnt used the Ninja but have this one for over 3 months now and it works great. the steam is awesome for veggies and frozen dumpling's.
Just leave space from behind as the steam function lets off a bit of steam from the back when cooking. we have ours next to our rangehood so run that at the same time to minimise this problem and also eliminate smells from cooking
I do understand that they need to max utilise the product components (i.e. fan) and make the whole thing compact, but its a bit counter intuitive to have the steam be "pushed" form above as oppose to letting it rise naturally from below
The air fryer fan blows "down" on the food, The steam is pushed down by it as well i guess.
I have been using this for about 6 months. Here are my observations.
The steam functionality (if it isn't clear) is only available in the large basket, not both baskets. The small basket has to be manually cleaned.
There is a default time set when you turn on the machine usually as its always 180 deg and 20 mins for the large basket and 170 deg and 20 mins for the small baskets.
Every preset also defaults to the largest capacity and time. Its annoying to have to push it down every time! The steam clean functionality is useful but it needs a full wipe down and clean after. It runs for 15 mins, beeps till you empty the water accumulated from the steam then dries it down for another 5. Dumplings and pork buns cook well in it and we steam it straight from the freezer. It also has a steam+air fry option for the dumplings. I haven't tried steaming veggies. The small baskets takes 50% more time to cook than the large basket so this needs to be taken into account while getting a meal ready.
Also, there is no automatic keep warm function like there was with other Phillips XXL air fryers. You have to manually set it back up to 85 deg at 30 mins or something for the keep warm. This is still super annoying.
The air fryer as a whole works well but lots of usability issues with it. I haven't owned a ninja air fryer . Maybe the dual basket addresses these issues?
Yep, spot on review…. the most annoying part of this machine is having to reduce the timer every single time from 20 minutes. especially when we mainly use it to heat up food that usually only needs 5-7 minutes
I bought this a few months ago.
The steam function is incredible. It is now the BEST AIRFRYER I've bought.
The unit has 3 modes. Air fry, Airfry with steam, or steam only.KFC tastes way better when you airfry it with steam. Anyone with a normal airfryer knows when reheating KFC, it comes out quite dry. The airfry+steam option makes KFC pieces come out super juicy and crispy. Also tested other things like Chicko rolls and its now very similar to actually deep frying because it injects steam whilst air frying it so it tastes better and not like 'dry', e.g. oven-dry.
Also tested this and made those Hargow prawn dumplings I bought from Woolies and I would say its exactly like steaming it.
Absolutely ZERO regrets, saves so much time and the steam/water tank is super easy to refill.
"Every preset also defaults to the largest capacity and time. Its annoying to have to push it down every time!"
^ This would be the biggest complaint I have. Defaults to 20mins for me and its a b*tch having to hit that down button multiple times since I find most items only 10mins or less of air frying.Try this if you want to set your own custom time and temperature for a preset (not sure about 5000 series, works on 3000 series):
Select the Preset: Choose the preset you want to customize.
Adjust Settings: Set the desired time and temperature using the buttons.
Save the Preset: Long-press the preset button until the Airfryer beeps to save your custom settings.I would say not. I tried this today but I couldn't set a default.
Would this offer stack with this?
Update:
Thanks to that Amazon Buisness deal, I was able to get the Air Fryer for $197.15 delivered :-)
This has dropped to $288, if anyone wants to post it again as a fresh deal.
Annoying its only available for Metro Delivery.
