I watched a video over at JOMW where Jody reviewed this ripper little field watch which you can pick up for for a great price during the current AliExpress sale. It has some decent specs and with drilled 20mm lugs it's going to be an absolute strap monster. You may get one of two movements, either a Seiko VH31 or VH60, but they're essentially the same under the dial.

Heaps of colour variations to choose from but beware some are slightly more expensive. Also, you can select to have the crow's foot logo for pseudo authenticity of a 60s vintage military watch, or a plain dial without it.

Some people reckon it's best to purchase in US$ with a credit card that has no international fees, check pricing in AU$ as well and decide which works best for you. Apply one of two AE codes AUEF06 or AU$43+ to get a $4 discount.

Price: US$31.86 - US$4 coupon = US$27.86 + US$3.86 GST = US$31.72 (~A$48.64)

Full specs:

  • I did the pricing in AU$ and then converted but some people reckon it's best to purchase in US$ with a credit card that has no international fees

As per our posting note for Aliexpress:

    • Please include BOTH the US$ price & the approximate A$ conversion in the title, INCLUDING GST (shown in checkout).
    • If space doesn't allow this, include it in the description.
    • Prices on AliExpress are set in $US by default, and so currency fluctuations can make $AU prices inaccurate later. Mentioning fixed prices, which is in $US, can help users decide whether a price change is a result of an exchange rate fluctuation or an actual item price change.

Please specify the price in USD whenever possible, and convert to AUD.

Also, please specify the price after coupon discount and inclusive of delivery and GST.

    • Okay, point noted. I did the full calculation of price in the description with coupon and GST, but then converted that to US$. I’ll ensure I change my AE app to display US$ for future deals so I get the correct numbers.

  • I've had it in my wishlist for ages because I wanted the PVD version, but that was hardly ever in stock (sale or not), but it is at the moment so picked one up yesterday! Let's see how it goes. Will be interesting to compare to my Hamilton ha.

And don't forget to use one of the upsized cashback offers too for a few more bucks off.

Thanks grabbed one. Not a watch perosn but seemed nice at the price point

    • +6

That's how it starts, just buying one. Next thing you know you've got more than you really need.

      • +1

I've yet to find what that number is.

        hahaha fml

      • +1

Absolutely. It's insane how the mind can put forth arguments to justify the next one and the next.. until you realise… you have a problem.

        • +1

I have no problem at all - I see a watch I like, I justify it to myself, I buy it. No problem!

  • I bought one of these during the 11.11 sale last year, and it's brilliant. It's been in heavy rotation ever since.

  • Very tempting, but my collection is now overflowing the case and spread across various rooms and cabinets, and missus is t happy about it! :(

Btw, Which style are you guys going for? :)

    • +1

      Got the blue.

  • Comes to AUD 50.87 incl. GST and using code AUEF06.

    • Same here. The other code doesn’t seem to work for me. YMMV.

  • ???
Movement: Seiko VH31 or VH60 Quartz
difference please, and is it just 'luck' which one you get?

    • If you watch the linked video from the description Jody does a pretty good explanation of what the situation is.

      • I didn't have time to even look at the listing then, let alone watch a video.
Now I have looked at the listing, I wonder why the VH60 is mentioned in the description above, the text on the 'ali' site says "VH31 Sweep Second Movement" for all the (current) possible colour combinations - but as @MonkDog says, it is not ALWAYS 100% safe relying on what you actually read on that site.
        and thanks MonkDog….

        • @AdModnar Crap. Sorry. Looks like I posted some incorrect information. The VH60 movement also ticks 4 times a second. So I've unpublished that comment. I'm not sure why I thought it was a single tick, obviously confused it with another movement. I do remember seeing a Militado watch with a single tick second hand though.

          VH60 VS VH31:
The VH31 is a 3-hander no-date, and is used as the base for the VH series. The VH60 being discussed here adds a 24 hour subdial at 6:00.

          https://calibercorner.com/seiko-tmi-caliber-vh60/

It would seem strange using a movement with a 24 hour subdial on this watch though.

          • @MonkDog: They just dispense with the subdial altogether, kind of like when you see an NH-35 powered watch without a date window. My guess is Militado had supply problems with one movement and substituted the next best thing.

  • Have a ML08. Great watch.
