where are all the tri-band deals

  • Almost bought, but got flint2 instead
Let’s see if that works out

    • Was wandering around asus website looking for support for ax56u and stumbled upon a page saying AX6000 security update period is until 31/12/2026 in the UK. No idea if it’s the same here.

My 5 years old AX88U still has security updates. You don't need to worry about ASUS, they support their routers for a long time.

  • Brent: "We need to flog more of our routers Josh"
Josh: "We could just stick some RGB, have one port pre-configured in QoS and slap a "gaming" name on it. Could even charge more"
    Brent: "That's the ticket"

  • I currently have this router: https://www.asus.com/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asu…
I'm going to upgrade to a new laptop with wifi 7 soon, so I wanted to update the router too. I don't know much about routers, is this one too much? Are there other Asus routers that would do a perfectly good job for a lower price tag? (doesn't have to be Asus, but I do trust the brand).
I'm not an online gamer but do need reliability for working from home / meetings on videocalls and streaming high quality video. I'm on a 150/20 NBN plan, soon to be upgraded to 500/50.

    Thank you!

    • Well, I am not sure what's the point of wifi 7 for most users except for future proofing. Comes at a cost, and probably worthwhile to then upgrade when wifi7 devices are more available. Your internet will be at whatever speed the plan is (upto 1Gbps) and wont be able to utilise the additional bandwidth. If anything your NBN connection will be the bottleneck.

I have been running 2x Asus ROG GT-AX6000 (similar to this one, but slightly different hardward) with an ethernet for AiMesh setup. Strong wifi throughout the house (double brick, double story) and full backyard coverage.

Wifi 6 will see most of us through the coming 5 years. Yours a wifi 5 AC1xxx router and this will be a significant upgrade.

In fact, for your usage case, you can cheap out with this (I wouldn't personally) https://www.amazon.com.au/ASUS-RT-AX3000P-V2-Supporting-AiPr…

      • Thank you! With tech upgrades I'd rather futureproof than cheap out :). I'll keep looking around for wifi 7 options.

        • depends on how big the house, 2 router running AiMesh via hardwire if you are looking to improve coverage.

Otherwise just plug a cable into the router - will be better than any wireless connection.
