its funny how people don't really go for the mavic pro any more. with all the drone laws in place now.

      • Drone laws have been in place for quite a while. There's no new laws. In fact, the laws are loosening slightly (for FPV at least).

        • yeah I wasn't talking about new laws, pretty much the very start of the laws being introduced mavic pro sales tanked. and the mini increased.

@kungfuman: I think it's just more that the capabilities of the Mini improved drastically so the price:performance ratio makes it much harder to justify a Mavic for the vast majority of people.

And "sales tanking" is relative. Mavics probably sell as many as they always have, Minis just sell stacks more.

        • FPV still seems pretty restrictive to me. Either apply for a permit, or join an accredited club and fly at the club field. Can't even freely FPV on your own property (if you have the acres).

Doesn't seem to have changed…am I missing something?

@Banj0: Don't believe it's changed yet, but I believe MAAA have confirmed that CASA are removing the VLOS spotter restriction on FPV. So you still need to maintain effective VLOS yourself, but it can be camera-guided whereas before you needed a spotter to not break the law.

And yes, you need to be part of a club - purely because being part of a club gets your public liability insurance. But with this new change you will be able to legally fly anywhere (that you could fly any other drone) without a spotter.

  • Tell 'em the price, son!

  • Sorry guys price should be there now.

  • People, Fly more Combo plus with the higher capacity batteries will make the drone go over 249 gms which will require license.
Is it worth it for 80$ more ?

any personal experience? This will be my first drone

The 250g law is for the USA. Australia has no such requirement around licensing/registering > 250g.

      • I checked the rules but somehow it gets confusing the more you read it.
I'm a photographer operating a sole owner business under ABN and If i have to use it for commercial work would it still be the same if it is over 250 gms or under ?

        • If you fly commercially then you need to both have a license and register your drone no matter what the weight is. You also need to register your flight plans with CASA I believe. From the investigation I did a while ago, it's a very expensive endeavor to commercially use your drone.

      • The <250g are a different category here in Australia (micro RPA), and so there are different requirements for using them. Also different rules for personal vs commercial use.

  • Got a trip to NZ later in the year and was considering the HoverAir X 1 Pro, but found out that there's rumours of a Neo 2 soon. That being said, this deal is very tempting - was just hoping for something even more compact.

  • $1,358.00 @ Amazon

  • asked JB Hifi to beat the price and got fly more plus for 1435

    • Plus puts you over 249g. Not that anybody is going to stop you and weigh it…DJI software may geofence though?

Airport where I live covers a lot of the suburbs if you use a 5km limit.
