Really wanting to wait for sub $1k on the Pro after missing the Telstra $699 deal but gee this is close…
Next year this time your wishes will come true
In 2 yrs time your wish will come true with extra change
Can get the pro XL now for 998.64 with a Telstra plan
Explain how you got this figure please ?
$1000 OFF the price if you buy on plan. And then everone know how to calculate the final price after cancellation. Not an excellent deal, but still something better than nothing.
Does 15% code stack with this deal? If yes, this means there we would be getting a GC from JB for the net amount. I remember few OZBs did that in a previous deal.
I haven't spoken to Jb today but most likely it will work. All such codes were stackable in previous deals.
What would the final price be? How do I calculate price after cancellation, Do they not make you pay outright after cancelling?
@VvaughnVillain: You only pay first monthly payment upfront. So if its a $99 monthly plan, and cancellation fee is $800, then you will pay $99 when you sign up and the cancellation fee will be invoiced to you by Telstra when you cancel. It will be pro rata for 23 months i.e. $800/24*23.
And by stacking this 15% code, if the phone costs less than $1,000 then JB should give you a GC for the difference. Hope its clear.@OZBsince2018: Can you explain it with actual figures please @OZBsince2018 ?
E.g. Assume we buy the Pixel 9 in the deal, $839
@Wolfenstein98k: Pixel 9 128GB RRP: -$987.00
15% off code: +$148.05
$1,000 JB GC: +$1,000.00
Net amount of GC from JB: $161.051st month upfront: -$89.00 (paid at sign up)
Cancellation Fee: -$766.67 (invoiced later by Telstra)Net Cost: -$694.62
@OZBsince2018: Just wondering where is the cancellation fee coming from? From the term and conditions, I can only see "If you received a JB Hi-Fi Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher Repayment Fee)."…
So can someone clarify how this "deal" is working?
@OZBsince2018: The prices in the OP are after the 15% code is applied. To get the 128GB Pro without any upfront cost, you'd need to negotiate the 128GB Pro down to $1176 (pre-discount code) with the sales rep, and then apply the 15% code with the cashier.
Officeworks have the 128GB Pro for $1197, so it's getting close to that. You should be able to get it price-matched at that price without any drama. Chuck on a $10 Perks code down to $1187. Should be an additional upfront cost of about $9 if my maths and Ozbargaining is correct!
@Charlie Dont Surf: See my calculation above. This is what others were able to achieve in previous deals i.e. if phone cost is less than $1,000 GV you get with plan, then JB will issue a GC for the difference your way.
@OZBsince2018: Cheers. The first month's phone plan payment is paid to Telstra at the outset, so that won't be able to be offset from any gift card reimbursement which comes later on.
@OZBsince2018: In my post above, you should be getting the 9Pro (over the 9) by sacrificing the $148 in gift cards with the Pixel 9. And for as little as $9 extra in upfront cash. The amount paid to Telstra on Day 1 and then for cancellation will be the same. Worth considering if it can be achieved!
@Charlie Dont Surf: Yes, that makes sense, But Wolfenstein98k asked for a calculation for Pixel 9, hence, I gave him that.
@Wolfenstein98k: As I mentioned earlier, if you can negotiate with the rep to get the 9Pro 128GB to $1176 (or at least $1186 pre Perks code), then with the 15% coupon applied at the cashier, it should be $0 upfront. Your net will be:
1st month upfront: -$89.00 (paid at sign up) PLUS
Cancellation Fee: -$766.67 (invoiced later by Telstra)Your outlays will be the same for both the 9 and the 9Pro. The only difference is that with the 9 you will/should have a ~$161 gift card for use down the track. Is that better than having a superior phone? Personal choice.
Edit - might not be able to combine a Perks code and the 15% code.
@Charlie Dont Surf: Why are you calculating a $766.67 cancellation fee? The voucher for the promo is $1,000, not $800.
My understanding is that if that’s the case, it should be $1,000 ÷ 24 × 23 = $958. But because the cancellation fee is capped at $800, it becomes $800 + $89 = $889.
So, you’re only saving $111 in any scenario ($1,000 voucher – $889). If you get a phone under $1,000, you’re still only saving $111 but receiving the difference as a gift card. If you get a phone over $1,000, you’re paying $889 plus the difference.
@danilogno: The Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee is $800. This is paid to Telstra. It's listed in the documentation if you look into it in detail. It's separate and distinct from the Gift Card (voucher) which is provided by JB as part of the sale offer. My gift card (voucher) from JB a few weeks ago was $1850. The cancellation fee was pro-rated on $800 set by and paid to Telstra.
This deal is no different in principle to countless recent deals. All available in search
@Charlie Dont Surf: That’s a different deal. The voucher you had is $1,800… completely different story. You have a higher-value voucher but still pay the same cancellation fee. That’s the only way to leverage the offer.
@danilogno: The cancellation fee is pro-rated on $800. You paid 23/24ths of that if you cancel within the first month (day 1, day 2, day 28, whenever…). That's the $766 figure and represents the cancellation fee. The $89 you pay at the outset in the JB store is the first month of the phone plan. Something separate.
@Charlie Dont Surf: Is it easy to negotiate this phone price down for the plan deal. I wonder how I could do this for the 256gb? I am happy to pay slightly extra.
@RQNinja: I managed to do so recently when I got the 9 Pro XL on a Telstra plan; I also wanted 256GB. I wouldn't say it is "easy". I was only successful on my third attempt (third store) but I have multiple stores nearby to me. It really is a case of YMMV. In my case, the phone was ticketed at full price (although the JB voucher was much higher too), so it was probably easier to achieve something. You can at least point to Officeworks being cheaper today, and then push for something a little better.
I just did this an hour and a half ago at JB Hi-Fi Parramatta. You can stack gift cards to get this to work, but you can't stack coupon codes.
Partner get the Pro XL 256GB, minus $1405 ($1000 gift card plus Galaxy Flip 5 trade in). Had extra, so put it towards a 9 Pro for me.
You should have asked JB team to price match the RRP with OW price to get another $50-60 off as OW has these phones cheaper than JB
@OZBsince2018: I wonder if they just straight price match, because with the 15% off code, it's just 45c more, but someone below mentioned that you can't price match if you use the coupon code.
@chet: No need to tell the reps on chat that you are using coupon code. Simple price match and get the cart link. And then use coupon code and make the balance payment
@ThePistonHead: Yup. Some people already tried it and confirmed that 15% off code doesn’t work on price matched cart.
@OZBsince2018: @ThePistonHead… So in a nutshell for your example in the first comment…. The final phone price would be 855.67 (phone plan for 1 month + cancellation fee). You will pay this to Telstra.
The phone will cost me 987 - 15% (if I can apply the code)… Final price 838.95… that I will pay with the $1000 dollar GC issued in the first place. And I still receive a GC with the remaining amount $161.05…
Phone cost $855.67
Plus you still have a GC $161.05 value.
Is that correct?@danilogno: That's how it would work, or you could potentially get a 9Pro for the same outlay (~$866) with a little bit of negotiation skill, but without a gift-card in your pocket.
@danilogno: Don’t forget to price match with OW first when you get to store, and then sign up for this deal. This will save you another $50-60 hopefully
@OZBsince2018: I think the calculation is wrong. The voucher is 1000 not 800. So cancellation fee will be 958.33 + the month plan Telstra.
I was thinking of buying de pixel 9 256gb. The cost of the voucher (1000) won't cover the phone price 1387… I will be still out of pock 387… Plus 958.33 plus 89… Total 1434.33…and the phone itself is $1387…
Or am I doing something wrong?@danilogno: No. This has been discussed a million time before. Telstra JB plan cancellation fee is $800. Check the printed CIS that you will get when you sign up the plan. JB Rep will tell you that the cancellation fee is equal to the gift voucher but thats not correct. Have signed up similar deals 4-5 times before and most recently last month, and the cancellation fee was $800.
@OZBsince2018: Right…I get it. Thank you…
Also… Is there any chance to get the refund from Telstra for the first month if I call them? I heard some people have done it before and it worked.
Is S24 better than Pixel 9?
The code applies to the Pixel 9 Pro XL too - just tested it at Checkout.
Yup. My partner got his yesterday but only 128gb and didn't pay the $347 difference.
He just needs to put out before 21st of August and pay $800 cancellation fees to Telstra; the $89 he was charged last night = $889 all up.Interested in this but what do you mean by "didn't pay the $347 difference"?
I moved from Samsung to a Pixel 6 and then back to Samsung.
I had some great experiences with my Pixel 6, but also plenty of annoying things that would come up all the time. I don't know if they were software or hardware related. Touch screen issues, a 'jittery' screen. Performance was a bit lack-lustre when gaming.
I believe the Pixel 9 series is still behind other flagships in terms of raw power. It's stopping me from trying a Pixel again, although I really want to.Pixel 6 wasn't a good experience for anyone. I've gone 7, 8 pro and likely 9 pro xl with this deal and have had a great experience with pixel. Camera is awesome. I'd never go back to a bloatware Samsung anytime soon.
Had my pixel 6 pro for nearly 4 years? It has been a great phone
My son has one. He's still happy with it but he hates having to reboot the thing sometimes when he does it's as slow as molasses booting, then another 5 minutes after his creen comes up.
Daily use seems fine.
@serpserpserp: Yeah he was having some Android Auto issues on his car audio upgrade and had to reboot a few times . Now resolved. Otherwise yeah I don't see any reason to reboot.
Looking at this deal now because my pixel 6 pro decided to shut itself off last night and never turn back on, it looks dead as. Painful to change phones like this, especially the days of eSIMs!
I did use Pixel 9 Pro XL for a few months. Definitely great and much improved phone over 6 or 7 series. For a normal user, Raw power isn't an issue with Pixel 9 series. Only down side is the battery life I would say when compared to for example S25U or iPhone 16 Pro Max. However, if you work in an office or home environment, even this shouldn't concern you. Camera is fantastic on Pixel 9 Pro phones if thats the deciding factor for some.
How would battery life compare with S25U with your typical use case? Sot? 1 or 2 hrs less with pixel 9xl ??
Edit- spelling.I would say around 2 hours less SOT.
GGRR of course - just after I bought one (256Gb) at their Armadale store Saturday at $1347 price match. FFS.
Contact them and try to get a refund for the difference. Should work based on past experience of some OZBs.
Boom. Thanks!
Called, went in, and got refunded the difference. Ta mate!
Now you need to share half of it with me mate 😜
pixel10 is coming!
Likely August
5% price beat at OW?
Not with discount code though.
Applies to Pixel 9 Pro XL too - $1497 reduced to $1272.45 - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/google-pixel-9-pro-xl-5g-…
the code didn't work, there's a space at the end 😂
FYI if you go in-store/don't order online, friend had issues as floor staff didn't get the internal memo re the code. Just add it to your cart online briefly and add the code to show them. They got it eventually though.
(Though if you're already adding it to your cart, just be safe and do a pickup honestly)
Can confirm staff were confused. Took a bit of convincing to give me the further discounted price
I upgraded from S10 to Pixel 9 pro.
Love it! Jump on the bandwagon
Ordered online for click and collect and it was literally ready within a minute. lol
Those who are looking to buy from JB Hifi, should get on a chat with JB Reps and ask for a price match with OW as all Pixel phones are about $50-60 cheaper on OW website, and once you receive the Cart link use 15% off code to buy. To make the deal even sweater, try to buy 10% off GC to make the phone even cheaper.
Just tried this and doesn't work unfortunately, coupon code won't work on the new cart link they provided.
Ahhhh ohk.
Good on you for making that bargain up tho
It should work in-store.
Yes. I guess so because if you do a price match in-store, they can simply reduce the RRP which means the code should still apply. May be someone can try and confirm.
@OZBsince2018: When I got my Pixel 9 Pro XL in-store a few weeks ago, I got a price-match from the sales rep and then was able to apply a code (Perks $30 off $300) at the cashier. Slightly different, but same principle.
Code doesn't apply to the 9a range.
Thoughts on the 9 Pro Vs the Razr 60 Ultra?
Pixel 9 Pros:
* Much cheaper
* More compact
* Longer software support
* Better camerasRazr 60 Ultra pros:
* FLIP
* Better launcher customisation (can't change icons or remove At a Glance on Pixels, and alternate launchers have had broken animations for years)
* Faster charging
* Side-mounted fingerprint scanner (my Mi 9T had an under-screen one that was rubbish with a glass screen protector)Upgrading from a non-rooted ZenFone 9, which has decent customisation stock - just not sure if the more barebones version of Android on Pixels would drive me mad.
Is a pixel 9 pro really that compact?
Not just a better camera, a MUCH better camera for both photos and video. Apparently the processing is pretty terrible.
This is coming from someone that really wants one of those razr phones. If I can get one like half price I'd probably still buy it with all its flaws
The 9 Pro isn't compact by my standards, though it's probably the best we're going to get.
Interesting about the cameras, reviews seem to say the 60 Ultra is pretty good - though the 9 Pro is probably the "safe" choice.
It is pretty good. Processing is not great. On video very apparent. Worse on the budget version of the phone
Has anyone Price matched this price on the google store?
I am unsure if google will honour the price match with the price - after the coupon code applied.
Google's price match is a little annoying as you need to buy and then match. I just want to double check and not lose out.No one does a price match after coupon.
Girlfriend updated from Pixel 6 to Pixel 9 today,Nice upgrade
Google Store price matches and gave me a better trade in deal for my Pixel 7 Pro than JB HI-FI. Save you a little extra on top.
How did you get them to price match? Did you purchase the phone first?
Dont want to be burned after buying. Did giigle price match after your bought? Unsure if they price matched the 15% less coupon code price.
@mayotaylor - I've got a Pro 7 as well and am looking to upgrade. How much did they give you for yours?
Just bought the Pixel 9 Pro 128 GB for $825 (766+59). Here's how it worked for those wondering:
- Have a number not on the Telstra network ready to go (port in is a must)
- Attend JB HiFi
- Ask the salesperson for a P9Pro and tell them about the coupon code, which brings it down to $1059
- They will automatically apply the $1000 gift card, meaning you are $59 out of pocket
- They will sign you up for the Telstra plan, which requires a payment of $89 on the spot
- Go home and do JB live chat. They will cancel the plan and bill you $766.
- Ask them for a refund of the $89. Mine obliged, YMMV.I have tried in the past with first month refunds and they've changed their tune to say no. Tried twice. Gave up. YMMV but I think most will say no now given you've agreed to pay the first month upfront.
i tried for the pixel 9a 256gb and it said it doesnt apply
is the 9a not in the 9 range?
Google Pixel 9 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S25?
- 1
- 2
Pixel 8 in the title? Say's 9 range only.
