Looks like Samsung have dropped the wholesale price of their T7 2TB SSD, most places were selling for $349 earlier this week, now everyone is selling it for $249. Amazon and Bing Lee are doing even better at $229. Not the lowest price ever, but decent. The T7 Shield 2TB was previously available for $249, but has gone back up again.

Great reliable external SSD, not as fast as a dedicated USB4/Thunderbolt chassis with your own SSD, but a nice device if you're happy with ~1000MB/s read/write speeds.

I remember getting this ssd for $170 like 2 years ago damn

Makes no sense to pay $114.5/TB for slower speeds

This was $170 plus postage at Digidirect about 2 months ago as part of their flash sale that last 3 days.

    • Yeah I got the T7 shield back then for $198.50

  • Just to note that these drives can leak a thermal waxy compound during long writes due to heat, so best to keep this drive flat on the table.

    • I believe that is the T7 shield and not the T7? (I have the regular T7 and seems to be going well but did hear about the T7 Shields wax problems)

      • I've got the T7 1TB, not shield. It did leak a little bit. But I was silly and used it as a boot drive for about a month while testing out eGPUs. Surprised I didn't cook it.

        • Ouch. Did it affect performance ?

I currently use my T7 as a macOS Photos storage that's constantly being written to via iCloud sync.

          • @SmokeyTheCorgi: I don't think that'll be enough of a concern.

I did end up removing it from the case, putting copper heatsinks on the chips, and placing a fan to draw air onto it, to stop it throttling. But you should not worry, this was an extreme case of me mucking around. I bought my T7 used.

  • I bought this ssd last year , just had little experiment when u r using to record 4K video in iphone 16 pro max the ssd heats up a lot. I wouldn’t recommend for that purpose but to use as storage device its good .
