Wow. Two burners now? Great idea and implementation. Bravo Weber. Sadly mine is the 1st Gen? Got higher dome lid and temp gauge and one long burner.

Although reviews are not promising… :(

    • I switched from my q220 to this 2 months ago.

I love it. Definitely more control. Gets hotter quicker and more efficiently.

Slow cooking has been fun to experiment with. Sears very well.

  • +1

Was waiting for sale on baby-Q but looks like it’s excluded from Weber’s mid year sale.

  • Cheers - time to upgrade and upsize - the old one can go to the holiday house now

    • +8

Bahaha, what cost of living crisis?

      • +6

agreed. I just bought five and am giving my old one to my butler

  • +4

If you’re building an outdoor kitchen why wouldn’t you go for one of the bigger Genesis, Spirit or Summit Weber BBQs or another brand of larger BBQ? The Weber Q’s aren’t great BBQs for reaching high temperatures.

    • +7

We're a family of 4, so the Q's have always been the perfect size. I also have a large pellet smoker that gets used heavily as well. When entertaining, it's easier to do a large pulled pork or brisket than BBQ 6 million sausages, rissoles and steaks.

The Weber's are perfect for getting super hot and reverse searing steaks after they have been in the smoker.

      • -8

The much better Weber Genesis, Spirit, and Summit BBQs also have models that are the perfect size for a family of 4. Weber Q’s are small and they are not really very impressive for an outdoor kitchen area BBQ. The Weber Qs don’t get “super hot” like you’re claiming either, the other Weber models I mentioned can reach much higher temperatures.

    • +9

Because let's compare the cheapest Genesis at $1100 to this?

Some of us live in Units and this is perfect.

      • -7

That’s what I have been doing in my comments, comparing the Q’s to higher quality and performing Weber BBQs.

I live in a unit and I have a Weber Genesis, and a Kamado charcoal BBQ on my balcony.

        • +14

So you're saying if you spend more money you can get a better BBQ?

          I live in a unit

Why wouldn't you go for a house rather than a unit? They have so much more room and you get to own the land.

          • -8

@thestig: “So you're saying if you spend more money you can get a better BBQ?” Yes, better quality and a BBQ that performs better than the Q’s too, that also reaches higher temperatures which is a needed benefit for cooking some meats. If you’re building an outdoor kitchen for entertaining family and friends and groups of people like the OP said they’re doing, then why wouldn’t you install a much better BBQ than a Weber Q?

“Why wouldn't you go for a house rather than a unit? They have so much more room and you get to own the land.”

Why? I don’t need any more space, I have no mortgage, and the Sydney unit cost $117000 in 1999 which is now worth well over 1 million dollars.

              • -4

@thestig: The point didn’t go over my head. Firstly the other member said he lives in a unit and that’s one reason why they own a Weber Q, implying that other larger model Weber BBQs are too big for many apartments, that is not true which is why I mentioned that I own a Weber Genesis and also live in an apartment like the member I was speaking with. Secondly, I never said that I don’t own a house as well. Thirdly, I briefly explained some reasons why I don’t need to live in a house over my unit and how my unit suits my needs. An apartment shelters me just the same as a house, 1 BBQ doesn’t cook meat the same as all other BBQs though. For your point to make any sense the people that are choosing a cheap $400 Weber Q for their outdoor kitchens over a more expensive higher quality and performing Weber Genesis, Spirit, Summit BBQ or another brand of BBQ such as a Ziegler & Brown Turbo Q Series Elite 5 BBQ, would need to explain why they’re choosing a lesser product, and how the Weber Q meets their requirements while takings the facts about where the Weber Q’s lack in performance compared to others into account.

              • +2

@thestig: This entire thread is excellent.

"I compromised on a smaller, cheaper, more financially frugal version of X that suits my needs for size and space. But would never compromise on a smaller, cheaper, more financially frugal version of Y that suits my needs for size and space."

Chef's kiss. 10/10 would miss the point again.

                • -4

@henno: If many people that buy Weber Q BBQs do so because they’re “smaller, cheaper, more financially frugal version of X that suits their needs for size and space”, then why don’t they just come out and say that, and just admit that they know that they do lack in quality and performance and they’re ok with that instead of trying to make out that they’re really great BBQs when they’re not really.

                  • +2

                    • -4

@henno: But I have come out and said some of the reasons. You’re assuming the reason why I live in a unit is for frugal reasons, when it’s not at all. I never said that I don’t own a house as well. Yes my apartment is smaller than a house, that’s the point, only 1 person lives in my household. I do have plenty of family and friends and groups of people over for BBQs, a few drinks, and to watch movies on the home theatre setups though. What in my apartment qualify and performance wise do you think is lacking for me though compared to if I chose to live in my house, that’s comparable to this BBQ discussion?

  • Also, Thanks OP - it was time to upgrade the babyQ

  • Thanks OP. Just bought one. $409.15 is really good value for this premium product. I was waiting for this deal over a long time.

  • Does it have multiple burners e.g can you control the temperature? The older webers only have one burner

    • Yep this version has two burners.

  • +1

Just thought I’d throw this out there for anyone new to the Weber Q line up. I have exclusively used the LPG variants until a recent getaway where I tried the natural gas style. The LPG units seem to get hotter noticeably quicker and can maintain temperatures better. Keep in mind this was my first and only natural gas version so it could also possibly be a dud. I’d love to hear others experience with this.

    • Was it the same BBQ?

We have two BBQ's, the one in the caravan is heavily used and takes longer to get hotter.

      • Not 100% the same. I’ve got the premium version with the hugger lid and thermometer. Theirs was the same size in the newer style just with the lower lid (should in theory heat quicker)

    • I agree with this. I've used the Q in NG and LPG variants, LPG was noticeably hotter.

  • Do you just set this on a bench and put the LPD cylinder under?

Also, what's the best way to keep it clean? Some suggests to leave it uncleaned, burn it off the next time you use it. Not sure about that, never had a BBQ before due to keep clean concerns.

    • +1

      Yes, yes, get a cover

      • Any help on which cover - any links I couldn't find any compatible with this 3rd Gen model? Do you recommend buying a base/legs for it?

    • Make sure the cabinet you put the gas bottle in has some sort of ventilation. It’s not a problem until there’s a small gas leak then - KABOOM!!

  • Can anyone tell me how much smaller the grill area is on this than the 3200 (family)? The internet is being very unhelpful..

    • +2

      2800+ = 2064 cm²

      3200 = 2400 cm² (63cm X 45cm)

      14% smaller

      • Cheers mate, not all that much really given the price differential!

    • +1

Don’t stress too much about volume. This is a quick and easy way for working it out:
      Baby Q: 2-4 People
      Q: 4-6 People
      Family Q: 6-8 People

It’s not an exact science because it depends on what your cooking but you almost can’t go wrong with the above.

      • Cheers mate, my original plan was to get the built in as had one at last place and really liked it. So was going to swap out the unit I have built in here.. but this price is so tempting!

  • +1

Gosh I remember just a few years ago this retailed for $399, how times have left me behind.

  • I paid $509 for this 6 months ago and haven't had a chance to set it up :(

    • Go buy some thick quality cut steaks, you will be motivated.

    • discount code only allows maxium $100 off.

  • This is a great deal. I’ve had mine for just over a year and it gets used every week.

    • Do you clean it regularly? And leave it outside?

      • +1

There is nothing to rust on these BBQs so it's designed to be left outside.

Clean just by heating it up to max temp to burn all the grease.

Had mine for 15 years now and still works like new.

        • I've noticed on mine and a few others that after a bunch of years the black rectangle shaped piece with holes for the flames to come out can get blockages and be a bit iffy. Otherwise great.

        • +1

There is nothing to rust on these BBQs so it's designed to be left outside.

The grill plates are cast iron. They rust.

          • @ak47wong: They are but they are porcelain enameled which stops them from rusting unless the enameled is chipped from aggressive scraping with metal cleaning tools.

Mine has held up. Like I said it's 15 years left outdoors exposed to the weather and no rust anywhere.

I just have the Weber cover that is thrown over it after use.

            • @r33tom: The only metal cleaning tool I use is this one. Is that not meant to be used on the Q? Because my grill plates rusted and when Weber sent me replacement ones, they rusted too.

              • @ak47wong: That's the brush I use as well. That's quite odd you have gone through two of the grill plates already.

      • Yeah, basically what the other commenter said. I have a cover for it, but that’s it.

Doesn’t need regular cleaning, just an occasional wipe down and scrape down before every use (so long as the plates are heated)

  • No deal for the stand, $149 everywhere.

    • Where are they for $149?

        • Also the premium cart is $250.

And f you get their branded cover is another $70

For the total of around 700 feel like there are better choice out there

        • $149 not compatible with this premium model??

          • @grads5: it does. the premium cart can hold the gas tank while the $150 one doesn't. Not sure if that matter to you.

and weber Q + premium cart is getting close the family Q i may as well get that instead. you can't go wrong with larger one right.

            • @humbala: I ended up buying the unit with full flat plate, roasting tray and cover. Wife is keen to use some other table/stand for it to sit on, she didn't like the look of the Weber branded one hahaha

  • +1

Putting it out there, the Ninja woodfire BBQ is a great electric alternative in case someone is after a non-gas bbq and are after other functions. Currently also on EOFY sale on their website for $599. You get additional discount with gift cards too bringing it down to about $525.

    https://ninjakitchen.com.au/products/ninja-woodfire-electric…

    • +1

That sounds wildly expensive for an electric pan…

      • +1

Being an owner of 4 Weber gas and charcoal BBQs, I have been pleasantly surprised by the Ninja grill when using it at a friend's. Ease of use and cleaning was an extra benefit.

For someone that don't need multiple appliances for grilling, smoking etc it's a good option to consider.

    • Im thinking about the ninja too. I’ve got a gas bbq Ziggy and Weber Master touch kettle which hardly gets used anymore. Wife wants to do more pizza nights - heard it’s easy and quick to use. Waiting for a good deal to come around.

      • What about a pizza oven like a Gozney Roccbox instead? Considering you already have 2 BBQs, it might be a better option?

I wasn't expecting the ninja to be hot enough but it was more than sufficient.

  • how do people normally put without the stand? I really want to get a bbq with the stand but does not seem to have discount.

    • +1

I put a $50 camping table that it's sat on outside on a balcony for years, still going strong.

    • I placed baby q on jumbuck trolley from Bunnings for $90, works for me

Not sure if it suits for this model because of the size

    • Worth getting the portable stand if you intend to take it out to the park for the occasional bbq. The stand folds down nicely and fits into most car boots. And the straps and locking mechanism stops the bbq from coming off the stand when it's on uneven ground.

Also handy if you need to move it around to clean the space under the bbq which can get greasy after awhile.

It's an excellent design and well worth the asking price.

      • Really good feedback thanks 🙂 That’s a great idea for the park.

  • This is a great deal, I wish I held out.

Purchased mine 2-3 months ago and I love it. I upgraded from the trusty old Q220 that was ancient.

IMO I'd recommend getting the 50/50 flat hot plate.

The only thing that bugs me are the sides disconnect rather than fold inside.

  • Are Webber Qs a good bbq for just normal bbq cooking like cooking up steaks, chops, some bacon and eggs in the morning or should I be looking at something different?

    • Wouldn't look any further. Will need the solid plate for eggs though

      • My parents have a Weber Family Q and they have nothing but issue with it. From uneven cooking where the bbq itself is hotting in areas compared to other areas. It’s not the latest model tho it would be 10 years old maybe less

        • If you preheat the bbq with lid down and also cook with the lid down you should never get uneven cooking as it's basically an oven.

Your get uneven cooking if you cook with the lid up which is not how these are designed.

Mines over 15 years old and it's still works like new.

Weber BBQs are really buy once and use forever.

Worth paying double/triple over the typical cheap Bunnings flat hotplate BBQs which will rust out after a few years.

      • Alternatively if you have a cast iron griddle plate/pan just stick that on top of the grill plates. I use that with mine when cooking eggs/bacon.

Just make sure to preheat and cook with lid down.

    • Great for these and Weber warranty is outstanding too. You could get the hotplate for eggs, or alternatively use another pan/griddle on top of the grates.

I personally use a lodge griddle when i need a hotplate on the Q. My other one had 3rd party upgraded steel grates.

  • bought one, thank you. Please post any deals for the Cart! Thanks!

    • $228 at GoodGuys price beat button at the moment for the premium cart

      • Thanks mate! Got the Cart and the cover for a discount!

  • +1

Thanks, finally upgraded from my trusty baby Q. Can't wait to try low and slow.

  • Thank you! Just purchased 😍 Was going to purchase the baby q for the same price
