Copied from Games.On.Net:

Since being pressured by 2K Games into raising the price on Borderlands 2 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown for ANZ customers, Green Man Gaming haven’t been sitting quietly on their hands. Their solution: a voucher that gives 30% off on all titles where publishers have forced them to gouge Australians unfairly.

“We have thought long and hard about the ANZ market that has been so good to GMG in the past and what our approach should be,” said Green Man to us last night. “We value our loyal customers in Australia and New Zealand and, as such, GMG are taking the hit so that we can offer the value you have come to expect from us.”

That’s right: with the code GMGAU-3J9MF-MUINW, you can get 30% off the price of Borderlands 2, now down to $50 (and its DLC Season Pass, now $28), Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage (down to $11), Captain Scarlett and her Pirate’s Booty (down to $11), Spec Ops: The Line (down to $21), Civilization V: Gods & Kings (down to $36), XCOM: Enemy Unknown (down to $50), and NBA 2K13 (down to $36).

This code is valid for the next 10 years — although GMG warn us this may be subject to change, but that’s the plan at last. Remember, this 30% off voucher is only valid on price-gouged titles such as the ones above.

games.on.net remains very proud to be a partner with Green Man Gaming, and help bring Australians the best possible prices — even in the face of publisher gouging practices. Thanks, GMG!

PS – If you’re interested in Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, grab it while it’s still at international prices and save yourself $5! (The voucher won’t work here, as it hasn’t been price-gouged yet).

  • Someone remind me which DLC does the Season Pass activate?

    • +2

Afaik you'll get Mr Torque, Captain Scarlett, Sir Hammerlock's and a 4th when its released. Not the Mechromancer.

      • +4

The term "season pass" needs to die.

You shouldn't have to be so informed just to know the true cost of getting the complete package. What if a family member who knew nothing about games wanted to buy one as a present for you?

      • Thanks. So as I already have the Season Pass (and pre-ordered BL2), there isn't any DLC out right now that I need to buy if I want to have the complete BL2 experience? :V

        • unless you want to do a playthru as a Mechromancer, then you'd need to buy that.

        • No since they pre-ordered they would get the Mechromancer free.

So no there isn't currently anything out now you need to buy.

        • ah, right.

  • +2

Borderlands 2 is cheaper at Amazon, FYI.

These prices are a tad disappointing. I got Spec Ops: The Line (great game, BTW) for $6 before Christmas. Price gouging, indeed.

  • got the season pass for $23 the other day from gamersgate

    Good for GMG.

Nevertheless, the ACCC should be investigating australian retailers for collusive behaviour to engage in price fixing. What happened here is a severe offence and other businesses (petrol stations)have been penalised with millionaire fines for similar offenses.

    • +3

Not the same thing. This is like the refinary telling all the petrol stations that they have to pay X. Your example is like EB and JB agreeing to charge the customer X.

      • Are you sure?

I imagined some Australian companies banded together and contacted 2K Games saying they won’t stock their product unless they force all online retailers to charge Australians the same higher price they want to. 2K Games then concedes so they don’t lose the local market.
I thought I heard of this happening with some clothing labels and assumed it was the same.

        • There is no evidence of that happening here. 2K have a long history of doing this and explaining it as 'because we can'.

I can't rule out your scenario, but there is nothing to support it at present.

        • There is no evidence of that happening here. 2K have a long history of doing this and explaining it as 'because we can'.

Actually, the first statement GMG made about prices needing to be increased mentioned that Aussie retailers were complaining to the publishers and 2K were the only ones to take forceful action.

Prices don't seem too great, but the publicity might help change things at 2K, who have had a bad reputation for a long time.

    • I'm not sure what bad reputation you're talking about - the main negative thing I remember about 2K games was layoffs at their Canberra studio (and others), which was most certainly disappointing but I understand that move from a financial perspective.

Were you thinking of something else specifically? (Not trying to be argumentative, I'm just interested).

Regardless, surely any publicity from this GMG situation will be negative for 2K?

        https://www.efa.org.au/2009/11/20/2k-games-snubs-australians…

There was also another instance (couldn't find link quickly) when a 2K rep answered a question on their Australian pricing by just saying something like 'that is what Australians have to pay, we think this is fine'.

This is hardly the first time 2K have pulled something like this.

And yes my point was that negative publicity might force change, but it hasn't so far.

  • +1

I appreciate the sentiment, but you can still get the titles cheaper elsewhere, for example.

    Borderlands 2: Amazon $39.99
    NBA 2K13: Amazon $26.48
    Civ 5 G&Ks: Amazon $29.99

    Sorry, no deal here.

    • Ah, but will Amazon sell you these without a US billing address?

      • Yes they will, you need a US shipping address only. You can have it billed to you Australian credit card and shipped to a US postal address. Don't have one, get one here free:
        http://www.fakenamegenerator.com/

Obviously because it's digital, nothing gets shipped. I have done this with multiple games.

        • Or just sign up with Borderlinx or similar to get a legitimate shipping address for free.

    • -1

As mentioned above, not a bargain.

      • +2

This code is valid for 10 years. It can be used while GMG is having sales to receive a further discount.

    • +1

But, some games on GMG ARE cheaper than Amazon at times.
This will be a good deal then. Being a 10 year voucher there's guaranteed to be cheaper games sometimes.

  • +3

Kudos to GMG for doing something, at least. Still not buying any 2K games though.

  • Thanks GMG. but I think the truth of the matter is not to buy games from 2K.

There aren't many publishers left worth buying from these days.

    • +1

I take that back. Whilst 2K is despicable, at least GMG will make profit on every sale. So it's not quite so black & white.

The coupon code "elder-geek.com" gives another 5% off

Edit: Sorry, that was for GamersGate.

  • Without a 20% off voucher attached to my account with Gamersgate to bring the Season Pass down to $23, I am still trying to find a deal that is close.

    • +1

I buy my steam keys at CJS. Got BL2 (Activated with RU VPN) for $19, Season pass for $15 (No VPN needed but the RU Copy needed). Game activated two BL2's in my library, BL2 & BL2 RU so I installed the English copy and all was well.

      • DragonDrew

Thank you for putting me on to that.

I also have the RU version of BL2 in my account so I will try with the RU season pass.

Exactly what I was looking for.

  • +1

If you aren't in a hurry to get these, wait for the sales.

  • -1

    Pos for the title!

  • If you know where to look you can get BL2 for around $15.

  • +2

    Correct me if I'm wrong…

Someone in the US can use one of the many 20-30% off vouchers that are often available.

We get to use a 30% off voucher on the AU price, so its very close to being the same price increase?

I can see it being very useful in certain circumstances, but it seems the US will often win in most cases.

    • I guess that entirely depends on whether the vouchers will stack (ie, use this permanent voucher and also use another seasonal voucher on top of that).

I haven't seen any information on this, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

  • +1

So what happens when these games go on special and they're eligible for GMG discount code? Australian buyers won't be able to enter two coupon codes so we lose out in the end anyway.

    • +1

I may be misremembering but I'm pretty sure I've seen GMG support voucher-stacking in the past, though as I mentioned to @samfisher5986 above, I haven't seen any details on whether we'll be able to do that for this particular voucher. Fingers crossed!

  • I just thought I'd point out: This voucher lasts for 10 years. You do not have to use it now to buy games, but you can use it during sales to get a bigger discount.

  • +1

Should be completely boycotting 2K Games for their behaviour - instead we're discussing how to get it cheaper. Which still rewards 2K games - just less so.

    • No, it rewards 2K just as much. It's GMG that earn less.

However, a sale to GMG is better than no sale to GMG. It's still a profit to them.

Personally I won't be buying 2K stuff unless it's in the vicinity of $5-$10, where I know I'll give in.

  • How do you know when something is price gouged or not?

  • +1

I bought Borderlands 1 GoTY for ~$5 a year and a half after release and I'll most likely wait for BL2 to do the same.
