$166 at (unsinkable) AliExpress after coins and codes currently.
Current sale hasn’t yielded as many sustained bargains as previous deals, but always buy Reolink from AliExpress. No extra GST payable and ships within a day from their Sydney warehouse.
I'm seeing it for $228?

Must be an app online price
@2jzzzz: Nope should work on desktop or app, but app is usually easier to navigate to the coins discount page. Use stackable codes REOLINK1838 and AUEF33 for $30 off plus up to 5% more off if you have coins balance. Plus you’ll get 10% cashback in shopping credit if you’ve joined @Clear ‘s cashback group. Will end up costing under $150 if you tick all the boxes.

@UncleRico: I really do appreciate your help but I can't get AUEF33 to work. I assume there's a minimum spend
@2jzzzz: Working fine for me, but there’s plenty of other codes listed on their homepages and @Clear ‘s previous AliExpress voucher and cashback deals that may work better for you.
@kungfupanda: Ha! Unlikely, I’m afraid. I’ve got no connection with Reolink - was just in the right place at the right time when their pricing and AliExpress promo’s converged for that deal.
Unfortunately they halved their coin discounts and increased their list prices on AliE since so many of us took advantage of that deal. They still have some good deals on various components but there’s been no repeats of the bundle deal you linked. Aforementioned power user @Clear was reaching out to them during the current EOFY sale to see if he could compel them for another discount, but no signs of any win yet…
yeah the code AUEF33 wont add as you worked out its below the threshold. aliexpress rotate the prices. i did see it earlier for 231.xx .. and the code would work then.
i paid 189.76 a few days back (mate wanted one.)
anyone seen a good deal on WD Purple HDD's?
New prices are dear as poison presently, but there’s some good deals on refurbs/server pulls on Aliexpress.
12tb purple listed for US$146 minus $20 for AUEF33 and 6% for coins should land at around US$135 / AU$209 less 10% cashback at each of ShopBack and AliExpress’s internal cashback for total out of pocket of AU$167.

It’s always a dice roll with second hand but at that price it’s worth a crack for non mission critical CCTV usage. 10tb & 12tb Purples run fine in the RLN8 (I’ve had one in mine for past 6 months) despite claimed official 8tb limit and are quieter than Seagate Exos and Skyhawks, but you must have the current N7MB01 build and latest firmware.
Not sure if it is a good idea buying refurb / second hand WD Purple drives.
You don't know how much they have been used abused by the previous owner.
I usually buy the 14TB ones on Amazon AU (Marketplace Seller: Amazon US) when they have good deals.
You can always ask for said info… I don't buy drives without it (haven't brought a new drive in over 20yrs)
related but for the 8 channel model.
I have rehoused it in a 10" rack, and done the esata cable mod to connect 2x 3.5" hdd.
Choose any 3.5" rack mount, I went for the hotswap model which uses dell caddies.
3.5" hdd 10" rack
Note that the cable mod has changed since they modified the header connection in the current model, but there’s other info online about a mod to allow connection of a second drive without the expensive esata enclosure…
Yeah, I saw that some recent buyers have the connector hard wired.
I've had a look in mine already and its a cable.
Is the NVR software availble for installation from Reolink once the HDDs are installed? Is it free or do you have to pay?
Yep, it’s embedded in the NVR’s so will be instantly available whenever you install or upgrade drives.
Thanks
If I was to replace my Tp-Link nvr with this, would my TP-Link PoE cameras be compatible/easy setup?
This isn’t PoE I don’t think.
Can add your own PoE switch via a lan port. Looks like it supports up to 4 PoE switches each having up to 8 channels.
Thanks for the reply. To clarify, my question relates to the connection of TP-Link cameras to the Reolink nvr. Is it technically possible, without too much drama or networking knowledge?
@davidem: If you need PoE you will need to provide power for the cameras via a PoE switch or injector. But other than that it should just plug and config.
@Fatboy74: @Fatboy74 Cool. I’m already working via PoE switches due to limited cabling in my home. Thank you heaps for clarifying
@davidem: Do you have any issues on the tplink NVR with reolink cams that just lose authentication ?
@davidem: It's technically possible using ONVIF / RTSP so as long as you know which ports etc you have configured on the cameras it should work. My RLN36 detects all cameras on my network (eg Tapo & D-Link) and gives me the option of adding them, but I haven't tried it.
As mingo suggests, Realtek support the Onvif protocol, so your off-brand cameras should work if they’re Onvif-compliant.
Implementation is a bit hit and miss across brands, so whilst cameras should work, it’s not uncommon for advanced functionality or features to be lost when connecting outside of the original ecosystem.
Is there a max number camera onvif can be added to the nvr? I have about 5 wifi cameras
Officially eight, but some users have reported getting a ninth input to work if at least one is wifi. And there’s also four bonus channels for the exclusive use of secondary channels from dual lense cameras or unwired solar/battery cameras.
Currently using an RLN8-410 which has Pet detection (for compatible cameras).
This RLN36 doesn't seem to support that.
(from spec sheet: Supported Modes Person/vehicle event recording; motion-triggered recording; 24/7 recording)
I have the RLN36 and can confirm it supports animal-triggered motion recording for supported cameras (as well as people, vehicles, and general motion)
Thank you!
Any tips on doing PoE across a flat tin roof house and double story house ? I was wondering if I can feed cables via the downlights to get from one area to the other.
Double storey, basically the only option that doesn't involve plaster repairs is Point A > Up to the roof > Drop to point B. Having never seen a flat tin roof I can't say to much to aid you there, but as long we you can keep data away from power, and it they must meet keep it perpendicular. Never run the alongside each other and definitely keep the cable away from the transformers …
If pulling from down light to down light to reach your destination is the best access you have, then that's OK. Just be mindful that there's live electricity up there. Worth noting that any cabling performed by a non licenced cabler does not meet the Australian standards
AliExpress is cheaper. I just bought the RLN8-410, two track mix and one 811 for a total of 631AUD which I thought was pretty good this time round. Although im sure someone here will chime in with a better deal.
Anyone have thoughts on a reolink nvr vs frigate?
I run both. Frigate is convenient when it works. Easy to get footage off.
Reolink is more reliable. Not dependent on the server crashing.
This deal is still available
aliexpress is cheaper.
