Castrol EDGE 5W-30 LL Engine Oil $55 + $12 Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Repco

100

The non-LL version often goes on sale, but this one seems to do so much less often. My car has a 12 month service interval according to the factory, so I do my own services on the 6 month mark between the factory services - not a bad idea to stock up a bit so you've always got oil on hand.

Castrol EDGE 5W-30 LL meets the following approvals:
VW 504.00
VW 507.00
BMW-Longlife 04
MB-Approval 229.31/ 229.51
Porsche C30

The LL stands for Long Life to enable extended interval servicing yet you service your car earlier and pay extra for LL?

    I'm confused.

No matter the oil, a 12 monthly service interval is asking for issues down the road.

      • Not denying that, but OP services every 6 months, when the manufacturer calls for 12, then proceeds to pay extra for LL oil.

I do this too, use the best oil but service myself half way.

I've always serviced based on km and never had an issue related to oil, even going years between changes.

This is the oil recommended for the VW EA888 family of turbocharged engines. The traditional wisdom for a turbo car is that changing the oil every 6 months and 7,500-10,000kms is ideal.

My car came with a 7 year service pack included, but if I plan on keeping it beyond warranty I'd be silly not to keep servicing it myself in the 6 month intervals in between those paid 12 month/15,000 factory services.

      • That makes sense. Cheers

      • Do you do the filter at these interim services as well?

        • Always.

The Long Life is ok for vehicles with DPF, the regular non-LL is not recommended for vehicles with DPF.

Isn't LL superior tho? My guess is he loves his car and chooses that oil for that reason. Better protection. 🤷🏻

Thanks OP! Been waiting for this to be on sale/discounted.

Price match elsewhere. Remember, Repco will not charge your battery for free.

The kind of people who are buying oil to do an oil change themselves at home are probably not the same kind of people who need Supercheap to change their battery for them.

    • Castrol Edge in less than a heart beat.

It's personal, so everyone has a tier list.

      For me

Castrol>Mobil>Valvoline>Shell>everything else (by this point I just pay the premium and buy one of the top 4, wouldn't consider others.

    • These are two different products - the Castrol LL is rated to C3.

You need to use the engine oil that your engine needs.

If your engine needs C3 then Penrite C3 exists - https://www.repco.com.au/oils-fluids/engine-oils-fluids/engi…

Buy whatever is cheapest and also suitable for your engine. If you want to use a Penrite product then go to their website and see which one is the right one for your car.
