[Android] Free 12 Months AI Perplexity Pro (Worth $300) with Samsung Device (VPN Required) @ Samsung Galaxy Store

3740

Samsung is offering 12 months of Perplexity Pro for free to anyone with a Samsung device, for new or existing users. This offer is only available in the US, so we need a VPN and a bit of fiddling around to obtain it.

Tested on an S25, but appears to work for all Samsung phones and tablets. Not sure this would work with an emulator.

Start by uninstalling the Perplexity app if you already have it.

Step A:

  1. Go into your phone's SIM manager and disable all of your SIM cards.
  2. Turn OFF mobile data.
  3. Turn OFF your location/GPS.
  4. Connect to a VPN in the US. Chicago worked for me with PureVPN, but San Francisco didn't for whatever reason.
  5. Go into your phone's App Settings for the Galaxy Store.
  6. Press 'Force stop'.
  7. Go to 'Storage' and press 'Clear data' and 'Clear cache'.

Step B:

  1. Open the Galaxy Store app.
  2. Search for the Perplexity app and install it. If you can't see Perplexity in search results, then repeat step A from scratch with a different US VPN location.
  3. Open the newly installed Perplexity app and log in to your account (you can make a new one or use your current one).
  4. An offer for a free year should pop up (pop-up didn't seem to appear when using an existing account, but still worked anyway).
  5. It will show up as a 1-year free trial in your account on the Perplexity website, double check if you didn't get the pop-up.

Step C:

  1. Turn your VPN off.
  2. Now, do the same thing to the Galaxy Store as before: Force stop, then clear its data and cache.
  3. Go back and turn your SIM card(s), mobile data, and location ON.
  4. Open the Galaxy Store app one last time to make sure it changes back to Australian version.

    • Thanks i blanked it out thinking its a spam marketing sale attempt

    • Yeah I got that offer, I'd never heard of Perplexity before. It's awesome and I use it all the time now. I've got ChatGPT Plus but hardly use it now

    • +1

Just created account to personally thank you for this marvellous bargain! This is the true spirit of the ozbargainers!!

    • +5

      Thanks!

Higher chance of it being revoked like the last deal by sharing with more people, but I would have missed out on plenty of amazing deals if everyone had the same mentality :)

  • +1

Thanks OP! Worked fine for me. Tried it on my tablet. As I probably already had an account before, you’re right, no pop up on offer. It automatically just subscribed to the trial and it will show perplexity pro straight away. I went to my account and then manage subscription to verify this and it is indeed the pro plan (Paid $0) starting today.

    Thanks OP

  • +1

    Legend, thanks

  • +2

I didn't have to manually sign up for the pro version. It was already bestowed when I created the account.

  • +5

    Worked Thanks OP.
Account automatically shows expiry 2026. No pop-up.
Even got an email confirming I was upgraded for 12 months.
Used Winscribe Free - New York Grand Central Location. S24 Ultra.

    Here we go again…

    • +3

      username checks out

  • +1

    Legendary

  • +2

I am on S24, tried multiple cities in PureVPN and NordVPN but none worked after multiple Force stop and Clear data :(

    • +3

Try Winscribe Free - New York Grand Central Location. Worked first time for me. Make sure you follow the exact steps in sequence as per above post.

    • +1

Triple check that your SIMs are disabled, I couldn't get it to work even with an old esim enabled

    • +2

Ok found the culprit, split tunneling…

  • +1

Worked a treat on an s24fe with nordvpn. Tyvm

    • Are you signed into your Samsung account?

  • +1

I can't seem to change my galaxy store to US..

I tried to change my samsung account location but it said it would sign me out of my phone and watch.. am i doing something wrong?

    • +1

Yes you're just meant to vpn into US, and kill the store data and force stop it. You don't actually change the store location like ios appstore. I got confused too

      • +1

Thank you. I re read it, i was literally thinking step 1, change to US haha

        • Good shout, hopefully it's more clear now

  • +1

Signed in using an old account I forgot about and got
"You've been upgraded to Perplexity Pro via Samsung Galaxy"

So people may have luck using an existing perplexity account.

Now to see how long till it's cancelled :)

  • +1

Thanks! I did step one, then got the Perplexity app, signed in with Google, and it had the pro plan discount automatically applied.

Used NordVPN (free using one of many cashback deals found on here).

  • Thanks OP 👍

    Chicken vs egg
Did OP use Perplexity Pro on a Samsung device to get the instructions on how to setup free 12 months Perplexity Pro on Samsung devices?

  • -2

    What is the voucher fee?

  • Couldn't find option to disable sim..any help Samsung A35.

    • +1

In setting search for Sim Management

      • Thanks . I am with Coles mobile. Looks like Coles mobile disabled this option ( according to google).

        • If it's a physical SIM card then you can always just take it out, otherwise I'd try following the steps with airplane mode on

  • +1

How do I change the country in the galaxy store app?

    • +1

Follow the steps under it you don't actually change the location in the app

    • Post was edited to make it a bit clearer, just follow the steps to change it

  • -1

I have Gemini pro do i need this?

    • +3

Why aren't you asking Gemini pro? Sounds like you need it mate

  • +1

Can you use and share a perplexity account without a Samsung? My partner has a Samsung but I have a Pixel, sign up using her account but I can access it from my Pixel?

    • +1

Yeah definitely, it's tied to the account not the phone.

So you can just sign in to the app on her phone with your account and you'll get the free 12 months added to it.

  • +1

worked for me, thanks mate !

  • +1

ah nice, it just worked! had no idea it just gave the pro status to me without any notification besides an email

  • +3

What are some use cases for this?

Some real world examples would be nice to see.

    • +4

Basically anything you'd use Google search for, but on steroids.

The other day I was trying to upgrade an old Dell AIO PC for a family member by adding an SSD. Couldn't work out how to get the back of it off, so I sent Perplexity a picture and the model number, and it gave me detailed instructions for the entire process.

Much more useful than regular AI

      • +1

        Regular AI as in copilot/chatgpt/deepseek?

        • +1

Yep, beats out the search function in chatgpt and research mode in gemini too

    • +1

someone is trying to sell one of these subs in the classifieds lol

  • Able to download the app after using VPN but the pro subscription doesn't apply on creating an account.

    • That's odd, what does it say when you look at subscription details? On this page: https://www.perplexity.ai/account/details

      • Says I'm on a free account and I have to pay for a pro sub if I want it

        • Damn, all I can suggest is trying the steps again, but this time log into the account you've just created instead of making a new one.

          What device are you using?

          • @Jolakot: I managed to get it to work. Needed to turn VPN off after installing the Perplexity app.

  • +1

Thanks OP.. lets see how long it lasts…

  • +1

Superb. It works flawlessly if you follow the steps. Hopefully they don't revoke

  • +1

    Seems to only work once

    • Yep, once per device

  • +1

    Amazing thankyou!

  • +1

Thanks for the detailed write up OP.
No pop up for me but somehow the pro subscription applied automatically when I signed up for a new account.

  • +1

Doesn't seem to work on my old S21. Might only be for more recent devices?

    • Were you able to download and install it?

If so, try disabling your VPN before opening the Perplexity app, someone above mentioned this helping them

      • -1

Yeah I saw that comment and tried it, no luck. I had Perplexity installed previously and didn't need a VPN to install the app. Is it supposed to be unavailable in Australia?

        • +1

You have to install it from the Samsung Galaxy store to get the offer, and the app is only available on the US version of the Samsung Galaxy store. Doesn't work from Google play, have to uninstall it first.

          • +1

@Jolakot: Oh damn I'm an idiot, I completely misread Galaxy Store. Thanks for taking the time to help.

  • +1

It worked for me too. Thank you for taking the time to write such clear instructions. Without them, many of us would’ve struggled to get it right on the first try.

  • +1

Do we have to create a US Samsung account ? Or does turning on vpn automatically changes the location for Galaxy store ?
I’m using Note10+ with vpn but can’t seem to find the Perplexity App across multiple vpn regions with windscribe. Can someone confirm which protocol was used by windscribe ? Thx

    • You don't need to create a US Samsung account.

Make sure you force close and clear data + cache for the Galaxy Store app every time you try a US region.

It only updates the region version on the first load after being cleared, hence why you have to do the steps in reverse to reset it back to Australian version.

      • +1

yeah, I finally managed to claim it, no Samsung US Account required. Thanks for your response :)

    • I just used Atlanta mountain and then went into galaxy store and downloaded perplexity app.. easy as..

      • yeah, I finally managed to claim it without needing to create Samsung US Account.

  • Samsung Galaxy S10e - can not get it no matter how I tried.

    Followed instructions.

Tried Chicago, Las Vegas, Dallas, Atlanta vpn locations.

Running Android UI 4.1 and Android version 12.

    • That sucks, I wonder if there is a cut-off then, given the S10e hasn't had updates for a few years

      • +1

It worked for me on S8+

      • Maybe depends on VPN.
I'm using Cyberghost which has not been the best.

        • Try out the VPNs suggested that's for free.

  • +1

Worked on my tablet s9. Then i just logged in to perplexity on my phone and it was pro.

  • +1

Cheers OP, worked fine for me.
