Surely someone here is stockpiling Motorola phones?

    • +12

      As essential as toilet paper

      • Need more ears.

      • +3

        I've got 3 soon to be 4

    • With the state of the world right now, its actually not a bad idea.

      • +1

        You're quite right, Mr Bond.

    • +2

      Yeah me

  • Neo is showing $348 for me

      • Also extra 6.5% off with cashrewards?

        • +1

Try it. It's not a coupon code so it might work if it isn't included in this condition:

Purchases using any type of discount which lowers price advertised on the Merchant site, including but not limited to employee discounts, student discounts and price-matching.

    • +2

TLDR: The Neo is a much better phone for those who can spend more.

    • +12

Because we don't have a time machine. Why, do you have a time machine?

      • Haha. No , but I'm working on one. Come back to me soon 😉

        • +6

When you get your time machine working, surely you can come back to us now!

  • Is 50 neo 5g phone? Doesn’t seem the information is being written anywhere.

It says release in aug 2024, and dropped to $200 at Black Friday?

    • It's 5G. Most phones apart from cheap phones under RRP$300 are 5G.

  • When do updates stop?

    • +3

Edge 50 Neo has 4+ years remaining. Up to Android 18. Security updates until August 2029.

      • +2

It comes with Android 14 with 5 additional OS updates which will take it to Android 19.

        • Correct. Thanks.

    • +1

The issue is how frequently do you get them. Go-to the Lenovo Moto forums and demand their customer service peeps to add your IMEI to get the latest updates. Otherwise you'll be stuck on a 2024 July version. Yes, as in zero update, doesn't matter if it's 2 years or 5… pointless if they don't release anything.

      • Not sure what you mean. Yes they are little slow with their security patch updates but I never did any of that and my Neo is on A15 with May patch.

    Is battery life Ok?

    • One full day. There's lots of battery management software options to use.

  • Is this a good upgrade from a S21 5G 128gb?
    The S24/S25s are so pricey.

    • -2

      Not an upgrade lol

    • +2

Not sure why he got negged. I'm using a neo 50 to write this and it isn't an upgrade on a Samsung s21 and above. I know because I had an S20 and performance wise and camera the S20 is better. I couldn't use it because it started overheating. Only reason I got this. It's a great deal for the money but not an upgrade.Ymmv.

      • That's strange, I'm still using a S20 FE & it doesn't overheat. Recently replaced the battery, great phone & yes camera is awesome.

        • Where did you get the new battery? From samsung? Finding a good battery from a third party seller is a nightmare.

        • +1

The FE might have been better than the S20 5g in terms of overheating. This was a regular issue with the S20. I almost couldn't use it mounted as a gps in summer. I still have it. Will sell both when the S25 price drops.

      • Actually the edge 50 neo camera is rated as equal to the S21 ultra (Exynos) with a dxomark score of 115
        https://www.dxomark.com/smartphones/

    • I wouldn't. It's a very minor upgrade if at all outside of software.

I would either wait for the 50 pro to go on sale during a clearance or look at something like the Xiaomi 14t from AliExpress or wait for the s25 to go on sale for around $600-700.

Getting a phone for around $300-400 that's gonna be better then the Samsung in most ways is hard unless you are happy to sacrifice camera quality and go Chinese.

      • Xiaomi 🤦 expensive landfill

      • I'm tempted to look into the Poco F7 although I don't require one.

Hopefully it'll be less than AU$500 for the 12GB model but also I worry about its battery health in 3 years. based of my poco f3/mi11i it's not the best.

        • I guess you don't get my point.

It Will be Blocked by Telco. Unless you're using it for anything besides calls/messages I don't see the point of buying a phone like this

Might as well get a tablet

          • @Bretttick: They're supported?

Depending on the older devices they may not be on optus or telstra due to their way of blocking devices but the newer ones are fine.

My PocoF3 supports vodafone sims but if i put a optus or telstra sim it breaks lol.

            • @AeymothSky: My x3 pro was like yours, Now Everything is blocked on it.

Me personally I don't see any value in buying something that isn't sold here with the potential of it being blocked further down the road.

              That's just me

              • @Bretttick: Like i said, it depends.

The x3 pro was indeed completely blocked, me mum had that.
It's because the x3 pro doesn't use voLTE for 000 calls.

But future devices usually will try to comply w our requirements now. You can do what you want but generally it doesn't mena I will rule out grey imports personally.

A lot of these devices will be sold on kogan as well which will ensure they comply.

JB HI-FI were happy to match this deal for the Motorola Edge 50 Neo. I ended up paying $281.88 after using my Ultimate Gift Cards which I got for 10% off.

    • Great. Did you talk to them via chat? Or in store. Seems nice way to use my yello 10 off spend 50 offer.

  • +1

Under $300 and I'll bite. Would be an amazing deal excluding the eBay fiasco

  • This is almost my perfect phone (well, relative to the current market) But I want better battery. The battery is low enough that it affects my choice to buy it.

I'll probably wait for the edge 60 neo to see if there's a battery increase. If not, I'll just buy this one.

    • +1

The battery last easily a full day.

my wife was using this phone..and she was able to do a full work day and get home with 52 percent

just stay off facebook for some reason Meta eats the battery

      • +2

I trust you, but the reason I'm interested is because of the 4 year security update. My current phone had been used for 6 years, and I'm only changing it because of the battery.

So while it's fine for one day, it's a different ball game 3 years down. Something with a larger capacity will accumulate lower charge cycles, so longer battery life.

My mi max 3, for example, is still in commission with my mother, 8 years down the line. 70% of 5500mah is still 3850mah.

    • The battery life is better than it sounds. I changed from iPhone 13 mini because of the battery, and tried Samsung S23 and A35 before this.
The 50 Neo lasts the longest, despite being so small and light. Plus it has fast charging, which adds almost 50% in 15 minutes.

      • And wireless charging. I try and wireless charge overnight in the hope it doesn't damage the battery as much. It also has a mode where it adds the last 20% charge just before you wake so the battery doesn't sit at 100% for hours.

        • +1

Why would you think wireless charging doesn't damage the battery as much?
If anything it's worse, it generates a bunch of heat just to deliver less power than a cable

    • I have it. Really is the perfect phone. And battery is fine
      Plus it charges superfast

  • Bing Lee cashback seems to be a screw up. Maybe temporarily blocked while this deal is on?

  • My first mobile phone was maybe around 1994 or 1995 and it was a Motorola 👇

    https://images.app.goo.gl/GVdauWoV7dt1QsLx9

    • That was reasonably early. Any recollection of how much you paid for it, and usage costs? I think my first phone was a Nokia 3210, but that was later in the decade.

  • Backorder now.

  • +1

Really enjoy this phone. Light. Compact. Great screen.

  • Good specs for the price. i bought mine for $200 and I'd happily pay $300 after using mine.

  • Any idea when this deal ends?

Ideally I'll order and pay after 1 July for next FY tax claim.

  • +1

Got 1 thanks. Coming from S20FE but had a moto 5 and 6 series years ago and they were good so thought I'd try again for only $313!

    • +1

They are way better now with updates and great screens.

    • S20 FE still an awesome phone with great camera. As I mentioned above, recently replaced the battery on mine & should keep going for another few years.

      • Ye I considered the same but next year it won't get official security updates hence I'm up or should I say downgrading/buying this moto 🥴

  • +3

Great phone. Ticks all the boxes except sdcard and audio jack.

  • I'm hoping the camera isn't a big downgrade from the S20FE but I'm no professional photographer and couldn't resist this price, deal

    • +1

The pictures aren't as good as the S20FE but are still decent

  • I've got the edge 50 neo. The battery lasts 1 to 2 days, so that's not an issue for me. The lack of a micro SD card is a problem for me. I have capacity anxiety without an SD card! The phone is about 3/4 full atm. It's the first Android phone I've ever owned without removable storage and I didn't realise they even made them without storage until I bought this phone without reading properly. My fault. It's a decent phone for anyone who doesn't require removable storage.

    • +1

I use cloud storage for mine. 👍

Anybody have an opinion on this v S22 Ultra? Thanks in advance!!

    • +2

S22 Ultra is the most expensive flagship Samsung model. This is a mid range Motorola. Not comparable.

    • +1

They are vastly different devices, and aimed at different markets and needs.

Dimensionally (and likely only advantage over the S22 Ultra), the Motorola is lighter and more compact.
