seems to be all time low for the Graphite colour (Dark Grey).
thanks to RichardL combine with another "Buy 2 for 10% off" item for extra 10% off two items with code: TNRDJYDKSGQN. best I could find in 10 mins was Vaseline Lip 20g $12.74.
not including the extra cheap item, this makes the watch on it's own $275.96 after 10% off.

or can go splits with someone close to get an extra 10% off if you buy 2 watches with the same code: TNRDJYDKSGQN makes each watch $275.96.
also Amazon AU has $10 off $250 GC at the moment, which won't apply to the watch but can claim it by buying something from Amazon AU at a later time.

Lime Green colour has been as cheap as $199 + delivery ($179 with Perks), Camo has been as cheap as $289 Delivered on Amazon AU. and Graphite has been as cheap as $349 + delivery @ JB HiFi.
personally I think darkest colour possible is better. it doesn't stand out and if you get a bright colour it becomes a bit harder to see the MIP display, especially indoors.

Instinct 2 does not come in Black and does not have NFC pay (on Solar models only). UK stock means you will have to load your own local maps if you need maps.

can go splits with someone close to get an extra 10% off if you buy 2

PS: you don't have to purchase 2 watch, you can find a cheap item here for the 10% off instead (unfortunately there's no way to sort by price, so you'll have to do some digging).

Worth upgrading from old Fenix 5 (still runs fine)? This one seems to be better packed with features like body battery and oxygen meter.

      that depends on your situation.

I think most likely this deal will be unpopular simply because it's a generation old model.

but I have been looking at the Instinct 2 as a suitable device for elderly family member.
their requirements were time always visible so easy to see at all times and they sometimes forget to charge, sometimes 1 week, sometimes 2 weeks in a row.

this Instinct 2 has 28 day battery. most likely with limited filtered notifications (just deselect "notification center" on iOS for notificatons you don't want) and low power mode during sleep hours. but it can be forgotten to be charged.

no NFC pay is also ideal for them, because they use their phone to do everything. having payment also on watch will likely confuse them and might make them leave their phone behind. also in the odd situation they lose their watch, then it can be peace of mind that the watch does not have payment details on it.

they also don't get a lot of sun so solar model is unnecessary. I hear you need to get 4~5+ hours of strong sunlight per day to really benefit from solar model greatly anyway.

Garmin wants $450 currently for their new Instinct E (3 series) which is very similar to the 2 Standard because it has no solar, but the E has half the claimed battery life of the Instinct 2. the new Instinct 3 Solar costs $600+. so this Instinct 2 is the cheapest model with longest battery life currently that I have been looking at.
I'm also predicting that future basic models (like this Instinct 2 standard) will have less and less claimed battery life. seems to be the direction Garmin is going, they nerf their base models so that they can upsell you on their expensive higher models.

      • I used to have vivoactive3 which I replaced with fenix5 and I remember that vivoactive3 was made intentionally worse (their support told me "it is a different tier product") than fenix5 in every single aspect.
For example, the alarm clock would stop after 50 seconds on vivoactive3 and much later on fenix5. And I wonder if this instinct series is not just a cheaper/simpler screen (which has ridiculous layout preventing analog watchface) but also has crippled firmware in other ways.

  • I've got pretty small wrist. I know Instinct 2s is 40mm while this Instinct 2 is 45mm. Is there a big difference between the 40mm and 45mm?

    • About 5mm…
No but honestly I've got the Descent which is just the diving version of this and it is a pretty big watch thought not like a massive Gforce watch that you see on tradies' wrists

      • Did you get the 43mm or 51mm size?
