its so you can use square socket drivers (1/4", 3/8", 1/2") on a 1/4" hex driver with the added benefit of the ability to tilt the head like this

      • one dumb question: do people use impact drivers to tighten nuts, or only to loosen?

        • Yes they can be used to tighten. But you probably want to finish them off by hand using a ratchet depending on the material you're drilling in to. Otherwise you would look into get an impact wrench, which is designed specifically for loosening and tightening bolts with much more torque.

          • @ifreddo: Thanks.
I've been searching for an impact driver/wrench that I can limit the torque so I won't need to worry about overdriving.

    • Normally you would put a socket onto a socket wrench - and depending what size sockets you have (3/4", 1/2" etc), you would need different wrenches with those sizes.

This kit allows you to put one of these bits into a drill, just like a screwdriver bit etc, and then attach your socket to that bit.

How it works in practice - well I guess I'll find out as I just bought one also. But seems like a useful option when a socket wrench might not fit or is difficult to use.

Turn your drill driver into very weak impact wrench
Turn your impact driver into weak impact wrench
I assume these unnamed brand adapters can be safety hazards.

      • I use my impact driver on wheelnuts, no probs. I dont use a wobble one, dewalt hex to half inch.

        • which impact driver do you have?

          • @Averell: Bosch hi torque something. will look tommorow.

@newynut: GDR 18V-220 C Professional I crack the nuts with a wheel brace and check em after tightening.
