Valvoline 5L 5W-30 Engine Armour $32: for those who just want a 5W-30 spec oil & cheap, pls consider. https://www.bunnings.com.au/valvoline-5l-5w-30-engine-armour…?
I'm testing an updated Valvoline-oil, BUT with ILSAC GF-6, & API SP…seems relatively THIN.
Valvoline 5L 5W-30 Engine Armour $32: for those who just want a 5W-30 spec oil & cheap, pls consider.
Semi-Synthetic, good luck.
Pls define synthetic as per agreed by the oil-industry, eg API, ILSAC, ACEA etc.
The LL spec means it meets standards like these :
Mercedes-Benz MB-Approval 229.31 / 229.51
Porsche C30
Volkswagen Auto Group (VAG) VW 504 00 / 507 00
If you have a VW that needs 507 00 oil then you can't use "Valvoline 5L 5W-30 Engine Armour".
👍
Valvoline 5L 5W-30 Engine Armour: some people want cheap 5W-30 oil & not too concerns about spec & hence my comments.
I help friend changing their engine oil & some likely to stretch to 1 year oil-change-interval for an 'a to b' car. My educated guess is that this oil should be fine. I have used Valvoline-XLD a few decade ago & this is a LOWER-grade oil…it delivered.
@ab c: I don't know how to make it any more clear.
There are engines that need oil which meets specific specs - one of my cars is a Euro that needs a C3 oil. I can use the Castrol LL in this post, or I can use the Penrite C3 - https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/penrite-penrite-enviro-c… or I can use any other oil that meets the C3 spec.
You need to buy the oil that your engine requires.
Very true, especially when you're sourcing an oil with VW 504 507 cert on it.
Just purchased it last night. I'll return and purchase again at the cheaper price
OzB classic move
In store they just refunded the difference . Happy customer
big man
The 10L Nulon Apex+ Multi 23 5w30 is a good alternative, probably same formula as the Fuchs TITAN GT1 FLEX 23. Better and cheaper.
https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/nulon-nulon-full-synthet…
What makes you say its the same formula as Fuchs?
Fuchs is on the 229.51 sheet, but Nulon is nowhere to be seen, despite there being a metric crapton of oils litsted.

?
https://www.nulon.com.au/products/engine-oils/apex-plus/apx5… - it's right there in the "Meets or exceeds the following vehicle manufacturer's specifications" list.
What makes you say its the same formula as Fuchs?
Because both are C2/C3 oils and meet all the same standards.

Oh I thought you had some inside knowledge or something that showed Nulon was a subsidiary or partner of Fuchs lol.
Nulon can claim whatever they want on their bottle, and they do. But unless its listed on on the official bevo list, it hasn't actually been tested and approved to meet or exceed that standard. Fuchs has, Nulon hasn't.
Oils ain't oils mate.
@stumo: You’re right that Nulons oil doesn’t have the actual OEM approvals, but that’s due to the costs (fees charged by the oems). Nulon has been bought by Fuchs, and the “23” C2+C3 oil is a signature Fuchs oil. I have no proof that it’s 100% the same, but I suspect it. In the end all base oils and additive packs come from the same handful of companies.
Nulon can claim whatever they want on their bottle, and they do.
That's all you need to know.
If the oil manufacturer is claiming compatibility, then it's compatible - there are many many oils that do this, without bothering to go through the actual car-manufacturer's testing, and it's absolutely fine.
Oils are oils, buy the one that meets the standards your car needs.
buy the one that meets the standards your car needs.
Thats the whole point. My car specifies MB229.5. Only an officially approved oil on the actual MB225.5 sheet is allowed to be used when the car is under warranty.
So no, Oils ain't oils. I can't just use any old oil that "claims" it meets the standard like Nulon. It has to actually back up that claim by being officially tested like the many other oils on the list that have been subjected to that test. Including Penrite I might add.
Bunnings is now much cheaper

No Castrol engine oil on their website.
Is this ok for vehicles with a DPF?
The LL one
Thanks 🙏🏼
50% off LL is pretty rare. Great for all the VAG owners here.
