thanks might look it up - just realised our Tiger JKT-S10A has started to flake off bits of the bowl coating… and of course it seems the bowl is discontinued now.

i recommend getting a buffalo stainless steel inner pot rice cooker.

      • never heard of it, will look into it

        • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons I use an older model Buffalo stainless steel pot brand. Posted here before.

Depending on your current cooker, maybe look around for replacement stainless steel pots. Above is just an example.

      • +1

        Agreed. Happy with mine.

      • +1

agreed … got buffalo …. happy with it

        • does it stick that bad ? i guess if you soak in water that will be easily cleaned right ?

      • non-stick bowl is easier to clean than steel.

I have the same rice cooker, mine started peeling too.. never used any metal in there.

The pot replacement seems to be approx $110 https://sydneyappliancestore.com.au/product/tiger-5-5-cup-in…

Think Ill go down the new cooker route too

      • I’m thinking to buy. Can I ask how long do you have this cooker before the peeling issue? Also, any other feedback if you don’t mind sharing? Recommend this? Many Thanks,

        • +1

I got our rice cooker April 2020

        • my current is Tiger JAX-S10A purchased approx 4 years ago ~$330 costco if i remember correctly. No issues with it - just the pot bottom inside has started peeling but i have been quite careful with it (no metal etc).. Cooks white/brown rice perfectly and fluffy ….i use the schedule timer quite alot to have rice ready by the time i come home.

      • I thought jax had some different to the jkt model - or was it just a region thing?

        • no idea

      • Do you wash your rice in the inner pot/bowl?

        • Yeah only until recently I stopped after reading about how abrasive uncooked rice is lol

    • Aliexpress likely has stainless replacement bowls at very decent prices, it just takes a bit of searching to find the right dimensions.

    • I use my boiled potato cooker for cooking rice. It saves on storage space having one multi use appliance.

      • Never knew there was a product specifically built for cooking boiled potatoes.

    • Got my folks a replacement inner pot for that exact model from Minimaru. It took them about 2 months to fulfill the backorder though.

I think i’ll just go with the Korean brand thanks

    • +1

Japanese electronics have been losing to the Koreans for at least a decade now.

e.g. Sony or Panasonic vs Samsung or LG; Japanese consumer electronics haven't been very competitive or innovative enough and have lost their ground.

Word of warning as someone who has eaten rice from a tiger cooker most of my life, I bought a cuckoo and the texture of the rice is always on the stickier side which is in line with what Korean rice is like when I eat at a restaurant.

If I had to buy again I'd just buy a tiger just because of preference

    • Some Cuckoo models have a 'Customized Taste' setting that allows you to adjust the level of stickiness. I had the same issue too but adjusted the setting down which made the rice infinitely better

      • Oh thanks for the heads up, I'll take a look and report back

        • All good! Just to note that was a bit fiddly to change as it was a sequence of button presses, so you might need to refer to the manual for your model

  • I just bought a Xiaomi P1 which is in transit.
Xiaomi S1 seems to be much better value than this from
AliExpress at ~$110 AUD delivered for 3L model during sale periods, with induction heating? But requires some fiddling being a Chinese model and no English options. But translating + sticky labels should get you most of the way there. Or so I hope.

    • got a link please?

      • Tried to reply with link but ozb deleted my comment as affiliate spam :’)
Just search Xiaomi Mijia 3L IH P1 and something should come up. I paid $138.10 USD after coupon but before cashback (about $20 AUD iirc).
Message me for an update on how it’s going in a couple of months if you want :)

Edit - not sure why I’ve been negged. Just posting my thoughts based on my research. Can’t speak to durability but we will find out. I am moving from a cuckoo with pressure capabilities which has lasted a long time, but if durability is the same, the Xiaomi is more impressive in price, on paper, and in space efficiency.

        • searched that on Aliexpress and I only see results around $300 unfortunately

          • @ltwo: Just check every now and then. Looks like it fluctuates between 50% and 60% off.
I see it at 60% off now for $164 USD.
Take $25 USD off with one of these coupons.
$139 USD - essentially what I paid. Stack with some cashback.

If you don’t need the P1, I recall the S1 can be had for as little as $110 AUD with similar methods, after coupons / cashback. Can’t speak to quality or reliability of either - but I have owned Xiaomi products before and imo, if it’s good enough for millions in china, I’m sure it’ll be fine for me.

From what I've seen and experienced, Cuckoo rice cookers are better quality than Xiaomi and therefore arguably better value. While friends have needed to replace Xiaomi rice cookers 2 years in, my 5+ y.o Cuckoo is still going strong.

      • +4

I have had my xiaomi for 5+ years also, no issues. i also got the larger size for family 6 months after i got mine with no issues in theirs also. Used at least twice a week also for reference. Maybe your friends got unlucky.

    • Thanks I actually prefer Xiaomi brand. Any recommendations for below A$100 price point?

  • +1

Should avoid the peeling pots even after few years.
You may have been ingesting some micro particles before the peeling starts..
May take it back to costco

    • I wouldn't worry about it, we're already full of micro plastics and PFAS - a few extra micro particles aren't going to make a difference 🤗

    • Non Stick/Teflon flakes merely pass through you, they're inert. The issue with non stick items is the manufacturing process which releases the PFAS chemicals into the environment.

  • How does the auto power off work? Our other rice cooker can stay on warm all day even without rice in it.

Not sure about this one but my cuckold rice cooker is the best I've ever had https://www.binglee.com.au/products/rice-cooker-10-cup-silve…

Gotta watch out the habit of typing that word too often mate

😂😂😂this guy definitely been throwing that word around a bit too much in his online communities

or just enjoy watching his rice cooker getting cooked by another man…

what the crap is this, i need a screen.

    • ‘What the Cuckoo is this’..

  • Do these fall under the 90 days returns or is it lifetime?

  • +1

Better off with a Tiger. My cuckoo coating for my chss1009fn lid has peeled. Can't get any parts for it from cuckoo direct which is out of stock for 5 months now. After sales support for cuckoo is shocking. I've fired up my 15 year old Tiger and still kicking. I would consider a Panasonic/Breville/Xiaomi over this deal for this price point.

  • +1

I’ve had a Panasonic rice cooker for almost 10 years and the non stick pot hasn’t started peeling yet. How do these compare quality wise sounds like a peeling pot is common with these more expensive ones? I think I paid around $150 for mine. Makes perfect rice all the time, not sticky at all unless you use too much water.

  • +1

We have a Cuckoo rice cooker (model CR-0675F) and it's unreal. The only downside is that the internal bowl in ours is black, and because the line markings are engraved, they're nearly impossible to see. Have to shine the torch from my phone onto them to see if I've got the water level correct 🫠

  • +1

Damn, I got the previous cuckoo deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/902628
but this one looks more aesthetic

    • That one is more "original", as in Korean brand made in Korea.

  • I read the title as cuckold mom 6 cup rice cooker at first. Something is wrong with me!

  • Get a Buffalo with stainless steel pot. 4 years ago when wife was pregnant i did the change and never turn back since. Used nonstick ones for 20 years they all lost the coating. Where did it go? In to the rice of course which i ate. Those should be banned.
