03/07/2025 From GYB:

  • As for the subscription plans, here’s the deal: The $5 promo will still apply each month, but if you sign up for 6 or 12 months, you'll save on the subscription cost. So it’s just a way to save a bit on the overall subscription while still getting the $5 promo every month!

  • The $5 promo usually appears within 48 hours of your renewal date. If you switch to an annual subscription, it’ll still appear around the same time each month as your previous anniversary. It won't change to a calendar-based date.

19/09/2024 GYB's Notes:

  • Memberships are non-refundable. If you were to cancel your membership, it will be valid until the end of your billing period as above.
  • You can sign up for ShopBack Plus on any device - desktop, mobile web or the ShopBack app.
  • To utilise the Gift Card offer you will need to use the ShopBack app. Keep your eyes peeled as you’ll soon be able to purchase gift cards on desktop/mobile web soon!
  • Your Cashback balance can be used to pay for your membership (turn the toggle off if you don’t want to use it on the first payment). Renewals however will by default deduct from your Cashback balance first, and any remaining outstanding amount from your default linked Mastercard/Visa card.
  • To avoid using Cashback towards membership renewals, you’ll need to cancel your membership at least 24 hours before your renewal date and manually join again once your membership expires.
  • Apple Pay is not available for ShopBack Plus membership payments and renewals. You'll need to pay using your Cashback and/or a linked Mastercard/Visa card.

But what if it doesn't track?
    LOL

    • +6

Cant not track if theres no cashback

      taps brain

    • +2

No worries. @gotyourback and team will track you down 😂

    • This makes no sense…

  • +5

    Hodl

  • +10

pls bring back giveaway GC for best use of $5 bonus

    • +5

@gotyourback We are dying for this Giveaway!

    • I cancelled my plus sub for this exact reason

    • What was that deal?

      • +2

Essentially lottery/raffle tickets that you could purchase in the ShopBack app, but the entry fee gets refunded after a few days/weeks after purchase
(allowing you to withdraw the $5 credit you got from your ShopBack plus subscription as cash instead of spending it on gift cards)

        • Funny how these subscription services mysteriously start thining out…

I propose they bring in a $2 subscription model that you must pay to follow up any items that don't track…lets call it "trackguard"….and you can get $2.10 per month towards a giftcard.

          So stupid it would work…

Slaughter house doors are open….and all the animals seem to be walking in..so I might as well have a look….

    • It'd also be great if Woolies/Coles run a Mastercard/Visa gift card promo. I used to get the promotional gift cards, spend them on the SB giveaway, and cashout from SB to my bank account.

  • What happened to ShopBack Plus days? Weren’t they supposed to be a monthly thing?

    • +1

Subscription is offering less and less … Surely not!

  • Nah, CB used to be really good but lately it's having issues in tracking cb properly or even have predatory terms where they change for every cb offer

  • +19

The risk is if they are still there in 12 months. 😂

    • +1

The same goes to the cb money. I always withdraw or use asap.

  • +2

Is this or Ozbargain Gold better value?

    • I prefer reddit silver

      • Mastodon Brown.

    • +1

Gold is not much different to plain old orange. Platinum is where it's at.

  • +7

Done, seems like a no brainer for those that have already opted into +

The gift cards have been instantly used once the notification sent out, so it was just extra % cashback for free, now it's an extra $1.25 a month for free

    • Can I buy a gift card at $5 or there is a minimum spend?

        • +4

I just get a $5 Amazon gift card each month

          • +1

@Onemoredeal: Whoops please disregard above, I can't edit it =D

            • +1

@King Steuart: You can "Unpublish" when you edit.

You would have stacked the $5 off with another deal that had a minimum of $20 spend.

        • +1

Huh, did this change? There never used to be minimum spend?

          • +2

@sydonk: $5 appears to be the minimum spend, not $20. However some merchants may not offer $5 gift cards.

          • @sydonk: Oh hmm maybe I was wrong on that then! I might have gotten confused with another deal where it was a $20 gift card for cashback or something. I'll try just $5 next month =D

      • +3

@daoddv $5 is the minimum spend to apply $5 off. However not all merchants offer $5 as the minimum.

Super Swap has $5. When you swap, not all merchants offer $5.
Amazon gift cards also have $5 and start from $1.

        • +1

Can a $5 super swap be swapped for a $5 Coles?

          • @sween64: Is it worth it…and you need to do this every month??

          • +1

@sween64: Yes. I've the Super Swap gift card now and Coles is one of the retailers for $5 on the Prezzee app.

  • +6

Assuming SB is not going down for at least a year…

    • +6

Why don’t you ask Westpac at their next board meeting lol

    • +1

Or at least 9 months, that’s when it starts to become profitable.

  • +14

Remembering/reminders to use the $5 every month = annoying.

    • +1

there should be a notification to reminder you when a new voucher is ready. Although I assume they do this on purpose so that people forget to claim them.

  • +2

What!!! Even shopback now got membership. All world now changes in subscription modes.

    • ShopBack offers a monthly membership since Sep 2024. This is the annual membership which has 25% discount with a profit of $1.25 per month (with the $5 off gift card per month).

It's not a new concept as TopCashback UK has a paid membership too.

  • +1

Do you have to redeem the $5 off any Gift Card in the month off issue? Or lose it after the issue month?

    • +2

      Definitely will lose lmao

      • +2

Redeem during the month and comes with a monthly expiry date that can be seen when you "Apply Promo".

    • +1

U have whole month to use, after which it’ll expire and disappear completely

  • +1

What are the chances they remove the $5 off gift card promo in future?

    • +3

There is a possibility and I predict a riot!

    • This is what I'm worried about!

      • +2

I'm willing to take the risk as the higher cashback rates and exclusive ShopBack Plus offers make up for the membership fees should the $5 be removed. It's a no-brainer at the moment as the $5 is still given and there's a small profit.

  • +3

Too risky with no reminders about the gift card. Should just give the $60 gift card in one go

    • +2

Its to increase traffic each month

      • +5

And chance someone forgot to cash it

    • +2

Set your own reminder? Take control of your own destiny!

  • +1

Anyone else not got the $5 monthly gift card promo?

    • +2

Some members were affected including @noelhoi.

      GYB today:

Thanks for flagging this! We’re aware of the issue with the missing or delayed $5 promo, and we’ve already let the team know to look into it.

      • +1

Thanks for that , i had not seen that

    • I was affected too and raised a case. Should they send an email if there is an issue?

      • +4

        Ditto.

If they were aware, they should have communicated this as soon as they became aware.

"Priority customer support" for being a SB+ member… yeah right, still can't get past the AI chatbot and then dont receive responses to raised tickets

  • We are here to cashback or real bargain but why we need to pay to get bargain?

    • +1

Probably to retain customer loyalty and SB rewards you with exclusive offers. There is a profit of about $1.25 per month (with the $5 bonus) on the new 12-month plan. Hence it doesn't cost to join ShopBack Plus for access to exclusive deals and higher cashback rates.

      • Can we join now and pay later when we will get the 1.25 per month or some other benefits?

        • You pay yearly fees on the day of joining and use benefit after that.

      • +2

There is a time cost to convert 12 giftcards throughout the subscription.

Very simple - can you be bothered/ will you remember to convert giftcards for $1.25 each and every time.

Forget 3 and you gain nothing.

Everything else is marketing and should be included anyway.

        In my eyes…that's crap.

        • Fair enough but you are not changing the minds of many people that are happy with the subscription as it benefits them.

          • -3

@trixieb: Never underestimate the power of people!

Do you believe if no one paid for the subscription Shopback would continue to not offer any decent Cashback deals and let CR and TCB take it's entire customer base?

..Or do you think they would put forth the best offers they can anyway?

To use a Matrix analogy …I'm just offering the red pill…

            • +2

@tunzafun001: This logic sounds very similar to the theory of if everyone in the world refused to pay their mortgages/credit cards, the bank would be forced to wipe all debt.

ShopBack doesn't owe you anything, you are a customer and you're not forced to use or buy their services, so I'm not sure why you think you should be getting more for doing less.

              • @topherboi: While that's an out there analogy.. it technically did happen in the US. No security loans.. and several banks are now gone. Nice work M.Bury

                But back on track.

Best rates and best customer service was all inclusive when I signed up for Shopback. Now they wish to charge for it…

                • +3

                  @tunzafun001:

Best rates and best customer service was all inclusive when I signed up for Shopback.

You mean when you created a free account to use their free services?

The entitlement on this website is next level.

                  • @topherboi: Absolutely no commission or advertising income has ever been collected by Shopback throughout my buying experience….

                    C'mon … seriously!

                    • +2

@tunzafun001: So on top of your expectations of them needing to provide a premium service to you for free, you also expect them to do it out of their own pocket?

What sort of fantasy world do you live in?

                      • -1

                        @topherboi: I do not.

Just like going to a mortgage broker…they get a cut + trailing commissions.

I don't expect to need to keep paying my mortgage broker $5 a month.

..and let's flip that script… How entitled are you when you expect people to pay you to fix your errors in a timely manner and when you are making millions off their purchases?

                        • @tunzafun001:

I don't expect to need to keep paying my mortgage broker $5 a month.

Unless of course you wish to continue take advantage of their services, right?

If you're referring to SB's customer support, I haven't had to contact them (yet), so I don't comment on that.

                          • @topherboi: Mortgage brokers get a retainer from your business (as do Shopback). It's in their interest to keep you. So they are more than happy to help you out in the future at no charge. You are their cash cow, it's in their interest to make sure it feeds.

These guys are also data harvesters. You are a profitable product. So commission, retainer, and data. Now a charge on top.
Again, people power would make it go away very quickly as it's far too profitable to lose.

Anyway, there are multiple other options out there who provide their best service from their commission/ retainer. Top Cashback have been doing much better in the insurance sector lately. They are now getting much more of my business.

                            • @tunzafun001: I know how mortgage brokers work/operate.

However, the customer base between the two are very different.

I understand and respect what you're saying, but TopCashback may soon be next if they gain enough 'business', and then the next new cashback provider pops up and the cycle continues.

  • This will make up for all the times I forget to redeem the $5 gift card promo

    • +2

I assume you have a smart phone so what I do is use the calendar app on it to remind, say, set ~5days after billing cycle day to “use up $5 voucher”

    • +3

There is no cost overall and you profit about $1.25 per month with the $5 bonus. Offers are better with the membership.

      • -6

You're assuming they're staying around for the full 12 months of the subscription.

Could just be a cash grab to inflate the coffers to pay out investors if they go under… There's been musings on here they're in trouble

        • Cashback from the SB Plus offers are more than enough to cover the fees should this happen. That was speculation and SB has the backing of Westpac. To minimise the risk, withdraw cashback as soon as you can.

          • -1

@trixieb: "Cashback from the SB Plus offers are more than enough to cover the fees"

… If no one took it up, they would offer the best rates at no cost.

Then there would be no fee needing to be covered. You wouldn't have to go buy a giftcard at set intervals. Get them when you want.

Basically paying for your own inconvenience.

            That is the subscription model.

            • @tunzafun001: Ideally I agree with you, but look at everywhere these days, subs everywhere and they aint gonna slow down or stop, so unfortunately we (as ozbers) just gotta be smart enuf to utilise those subs to the best of our ability, or else we’ll miss out.
I was literally you early on, against the rationale of subs provided by SB
              Each to their own 🤷‍♂️

              • -1

@noelhoi: Clearly I hate subscription models as they prey on low intelligence.

Subs are not going to stop …as people keep taking them up!

Just don't buy into the marketing..it's really that simple.

Basically paying for your own inconvenience

Pay $5 to get a $5 giftcard…the rest is marketing.

This deal saves you $1.25…but it's a $1.25… does no one have the dignity to need to spend their own money and time every month for $1.25.

Should you miss a month…you just lost 4 months.

So the core of this deal really is receive $1.25 per month profit for processing 12 giftcards.

                The rest is….

                Marketing….

        • +2

You're assuming they're staying around for the full 12 months of the subscription.

And you're assuming they're going away.

      • -1

Pfa in buying a $5 giftcard, then using the giftcard… then the deal will get slightly less as it goes along… Until you end up getting what was previously free anyway.

Preferential support - just give us good support.

Extra Cashback deals - just give us the best deals.

        Etc etc

  • Priority customer service, right. Can't buy any gift cards, wants me to contact all of my banks. It's been going on for a few months now.

  • +1

    Been good value for money.

I've made at least an extra $200 or so from shopback plus on top of the fees.

  • Don't sign-up guys because this is how it will end-up $100 in few years time….so don't be fooled by signing up for dumb subscription models.

    • I will only take until there is equivalent or more bonus gift card credit. Moment they ask us to pay for cash backs, I am out.

  • I can see where is this heading towards. Entice customers, Make strong cust base and slowly remove $5 credit.

  • +3

The enshitification continues. The idea of paying a subscription to access cashback is so backwards and ironic. Worse yet, a lot of these ‘perks’ of this subscription service used to be free and for any greater benefit, it should just be part of the service.

It’s the same analogy for everyday rewards / Cole’s plus (and honestly many more junk services) which would just be cheaper and more convenient for customers to receive a blanket discount across the entire grocery range rather than charge a fee and offer a single, capped 10% discount for paying members.

Lunacy, imo - but I may just be old man yelling at cloud rn

    • +3

I agree with you. But we ozbargainers are smart enough to leave if we don't see value.

      • -2

        Clearly not.
Paying $5 for $5 back (but you need to faff around their giftcard portal ..and remember to do it every month).

This deal is $1.25 per month to cover the inconvenience of processing a giftcard. The rest is marketing fluff which would normally be included for $0.

    • +1

      @A female dog

      I'm 100% with you.

It's amazing what people will perceive as a benefit if you simply take it away…

I hope all these kids are starting to stockpile the Gatorade to water their future crops.
      https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/

  • OMG, forgot to buy the $5 giftcard again last month

    • +2

This is what marketing are banking on. Miss 3 months. ..you just paid for zero gain.

    • Just subscribe when you need something that's plus exclusive, use the $5 promo right away and cancel auto renewal. Almost impossible to forget this way.

  • Can someone post what the preferential rates are? I couldn't see on website.

I still just use cashrewards to keep in 1 spot, but if the rates are worth it potentially I'll move across …
