            • @Averell:

I can make the tag play sound by clicking a button on my phone so. With that feature, I think a car thief would less than 10 minutes to find it out, no matter how hard to find that place is

If you buy one of those cheap $5 non-UWB trackers from AliExpress, the beeper is extremely easy to cut out as the case isn't sealed. You can then hide it somewhere and the thief won't be able to make it beep.

@Averell: Remove the speaker on the tag. Easy AF

        • Copy that message into Google or an ai model for better results

    Finally, a reasonable price.

I said $138 was still overpriced, good to see Harvey came to his senses.

  • Got some thx.

  • This is better than the Samsung Smart Tag2

Other than compatibility, are you sure?
    Reviews look pretty bad

  • I guess the Google service would not work in mainland China? Can anyone confirm whether it's true?

  • The price these should have been from the start. Ordered a 4 pack. Many thanks!

Anywhere at similar price other than HN? Screw that guy.

Gerry is the only Australian retailer for these at the moment.

  • How these compare to chipolo in terms of size and functionality? The chipolo with google find my device network is very limited. It basically is just a location chip and nothing else.

Are these any better than the ones Kogan are selling from approx half the price?

Just used those on a current trip to the Philippines inside my check-in bags packed with expensive scuba gear.

Was able to ping both bags until inside (near me) the plane and immediately after landing in Manila und out on the conveyor belt.

Three month ago AirAsia lost one of my bags in KL during transit with zero knowledge or effort to inform me as to the whereabouts.

Those tags work excellently for the purpose and will not travel without in the future.

Fyi - this was before the UWB update.

  • What are people using to attach to keyring etc?

Any airtag compatible holder will work

    • Bit of shrink wrap works well for pet collars.

  • Listing is now showing as '1 Day Only deal' so it's safe to assume it'll end tonight.

  • Given that these need other people's phones to pick them up and send you the tracking if your phone is out of range. Do other Android phones do this at the moment? Or will you have to wait until this is a more common thing on Android? The value of airtags lie in the abundance of iphones everywhere.

  • My dad got one and I tried to help him set it up with his Samsung S20FE. Got it to pair easily with the moto app, but could not get the Google's Find Hub to see the device at all. Have reset it a whole bunch of times and tried several strategies found on reddit to no avail. It's useless if Google's Find Hub cannot see it as you cannot locate it on maps. All you can do with the Moto App is play a sound.

We're returning it and just getting an Apple AirTag to pair with his old iPhone 7 instead.

Edit: should mention that I did update the firmware as well, but can't recall what version it was.

    • That's odd, it appears in Find Hub on the Galaxy Flip 5 I installed it on. Works great.

I used Moto Tag to add device. It appeared automagically in Find Hub.

General consesus is if you have a Samsung get the Smart Tag 2, if you have apple go Air Tag. If you have any Android phone then go Moto Tag.

  • What's UWB and why do I want it?

    • look two comments up

Just a heads-up for anyone else encountering this issue or looking at buying. I got two Moto Tags, paired the first one and added it to Find hub with no trouble. Updated the firmware. Then paired the second tag and updated its firmware throug the Moto Tag app. Both tags appear correctly in the Tag app, but when I check Find hub, only one tag is showing.

I’ve followed all the usual troubleshooting steps, cleared cache, restarted the phone, etc.but no luck. I reached out to Moto support and was essentially pointed to a help link I'd already checked. They suggested the issue might be on Google’s side, noting ongoing development and unresolved bugs.

There seems to be a fair bit of discussion about this specific problem on Google forums. Unfortunately, now I’ll have to head back return the faulty tag and hope the other one continues to work.

I had same issue, the tag not appearing after firmware update, I did below steps and it's appearing in Find Hub
      - Reset the tag - pressing the button around 10 sec until it beeped
      - remove the tag from Bluetooth setting and the app as well i think
      - Find Hub picked up the tag

      • Thanks , above as well.Since it is removed from bluetooth now it is not going in to pairing mode at all.so not being dicovered by the Moto tag as well. It is going back to HN

        • Ahh, even after resetting the tag, the Find hub is not discovering the tags? and might be faulty product or something

  • I assume I need to buy a case separately to attach the moto tag to my suitcase? If so, is there a case that people recommend?

The dimensions are exactly the same as Apple AirTags so any with a keyring or loop from AliExpress or eBay will do. Kmart sells one with keyring for $6 if you wanted one quickly and save shipping.

That was helpful - thanks for the reply!

  • I bought a cheap aliexpress one that supports android find my…. however one thing it can't do is allow me to ask my smart home where the tag is like I can with my phone. Does this support google home?

    • Doesn't work with any of the tags.

      • That's so lame… Wonder why? It's in the same UI on the app?

    • How is the AliExpress one? Can you provide a link?

The only reason I want these is sometimes I leave my keys somewhere around the house and I want it to ring so I can find it.

I have an old Tile but to be honest it's not really that reliable. Sometimes it won't even ring even it's right next to it.

Wonder if buy this or if cheap AliExpress one will do

      • Hey I'm sorry… Late reply, kept forgetting to reply :P

But I got the MiLi tag. Honestly, it works fine, I paid $21 for it, but I see now on AliExpress it's $25. There's no USB, but I have lots of nest speakers and it does pick up which device it's nearest.

Here's the one I bought, but I do feel like there's quite a few resellers on AliExpress selling the exact one: https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005008328288733.html?spm=a2g…

  • Theae are useful, but to be really useful, you'll need a phone with UWB support.

  • I gather these work when the phone is no where near them too? ie; shows up in google 'find my device' all by themselves?

    • +1

You're correct that they don't need to be near your phone specifically. But they're not magic - they rely on internet-connected devices being nearby for their functionality.

The tag emits a signal containing a unique identifier that other "Find my Device" compatible phones, tablets etc can understand. The location of that device is then flagged as being close to that tag. Multiple devices "hearing" the tag from various locations at various signal strengths allows the network to provide a more accurate location for each tag.

Theoretically any modern Android device should be capable of picking up the tag's signal and letting the network know where it is.
