  • So the difference between this and an airtag.. this relies on bluetooth to be found, whereas the airtag pings off nearby iphones?

    • -2

Not quite. They work the same way, the Ugreen version is just better, has more features and is cheaper.

      • +5

What extra features does it have? From what I can tell it's very similar but lacks the precision finding that airtags have.

        • +4

It is half the price, it has 2 year battery vs 1 year on Airtags, it has a louder alerts if you need to find it, comes with some accessories and supports multiple users. Airtag will give you far more precision, sure, so I guess it goes down to price point. If centimeter precision worth the extra money or is general location good enough and worth the hefty discount.

          • +1

@jaymzrsa: AirTags support multiple users too.

            • +2

@prophet: So you can! Apologies, pity I can't edit my post now :-(

    • +3

airtags have Precision Finding the ugreen ones don't

      • +3

Yeah this would be a much better option (because of price and battery life) for things like car, bags etc.. perhaps airtag is for me to put in my wallet and car keys because i need to know in which pocket of which pair pants i left them the other day

    • +1

I purchased this from last Amazon sales. I have AirTag and this and found the response time of Ugreen tag is slightly slow to find remotely, but the ring tone is louder than AirTag. However, I would not recommend to use it with car key as this may interfere when starting car. My car key has chips inside which have to be inserted and turned , not the “start engine” button. I hooked it with car key and I couldn’t start my engine and I thought it was my car engine issue until I use my spare car key without this tag and it shown no problems. This is my opinion and may different from your situation.

  • Anyone put this to track car?

    • -8

I have a tesla so tracking is built in so never had to do this before, but I know people that use airtags for there cars. It definatlly well help if someone steals it.

      • Thanks, thats a nice feature

If you forward location car stolen to, would police help?

        • yeah it will help track down your car so i woudl assume they can just use you phone to find the car.

        • +5

          would police help?

          50:50 on this.
I remember getting caught stealing a bag of lollies as a kid and the cops were there in a flash. You knew back then that if you did something wrong there was a high chance of getting caught and the Police taking immediate action.
These days you can give the Police the address of the thieves who stole your vehicle and they just shrug and say 'nothing we can do'. Property crime is being removed from Police duties and is now treated as an insurance issue.

      • The built in tracking can be disabled, many thieves remove the sim out of the car and then it has no way to report back it's location.

I have one in my car, i disabled the speaker so it can't be located easily and is hidden behind some trim panels.

        • +1

its not a BYD you cant' just pop out the sim tray, there is some disassembly required to get to a tesla sim card. I havent' heard of anyone in Australia stealing a tesla and removing the sim card first.

      • +13

How do you know when someone drives a Tesla? They tell you

    • These would be better to put on a car IMHO as they don't have precision finding, so you could hide it and it would be harder to find

      • +1

Is this what gus put on mike in better call Saul ?

        • It's definitely not what Hank told Walt to put under Gus' car.

      • +2

The speaker is quite loud so don't forget to disable the speaker if that's what you're going for.

    • i have a Samsung Tag in my car and works well to track movement so i guess this will work just as well.

    • +1

I have some other Chinese brand that I track our two cars. I have two more that track my kids' school bags.
And just a few days ago I bought this ugreen one and attached it to my son's fancy bike. All are working ok.
The problem is that my primary phone is not apple!!! I have to use my imac to look at the location. Setting up always needs an iphone (it's a one-off thing) that I need to use my son's old iphone. After that I share it with my son so he has access to the location as well.

      • Interested to do this myself: How did you attach (and hide?) this Ugreen tracker to a bike?

        • Depending on your frame best spot would be to attach it to the seat tube area / down tube or stem

          • +1

            @tezza:

attach it to the seat tube area / down tube or stem

Mental note, when I steal your bike I'll be sure to remove the seat first 😁

        • +1

Okay my bad I thought I saw some instructions

So basically you need to hear dryer to open the shell and cut the speaker similar air tag videos. Don't quote me but defiantly look up airtag remove speaker videos

  • ATUVO - bought two in the past, track well. Noticed they also have dual system ones. It seems interesting

Generic Apple Find My compatible trackers can be had for as low as $6 for 5 delivered from AliExpress. They are no different to all the other non Apple ones available.

    • these aren't compatible with Android

    • +3

the entitlement here is ASTOUNDING, DYOR if the statement does not suit your needs.

    • there are more Android users than apple!

This works with the hardware. Android is software.

    • +1

there are more Android users than apple!

For mobile phones, not in Australia. Apples hovered around 55% market share for some time. As a market we’re largely an outlier in that respect.

      • Yeah, at my office, it's just me and another guy with an Android.
        Everyone else has an iPhone.

        • im so sorry for you, all those retards with their apple devices

  • got this from last deal, not sure how i can use the button on the tag?

  • +1

I own these. They are only useful and accurate if you are nearby with your synced device or to remember where you left something. If you needed a live location for a tag that is on the move, independent from your current location, it doesnt update in real time. Example: Last week the tag that was in my wife's car was still showing the location as our home, even though my wife was at the shopping centre 10km away. When I drove to the shopping centre to meet her I parked in the same parking bay as her car but the Ugreen tag still wouldnt update even though I was within 30m of her car. It was only when I found her car by walking around did it finally update the location once I was right up close to it.

    • The tag uses Apple’s Find My network. Meaning its location gets updated by other nearby Apple devices (usually iPhones).

Is it possible your wife parked in an area with low foot traffic? If so, it would take a while before someone with an iPhone would walk by and update its location. Or perhaps the tag was placed so deeply within the car that most nearby iPhones would struggle to detect it.

    • they work like Apple AirTags where they rely on other Apple devices to update the location, so perhaps your wife was in an empty carpark with no Apple devices nearby or (more likely) a blocked signal?

      • My wife also has an Iphone 16 PRO with bluetooth turned on so it should have updated while she was driving from home to the shopping centre and it unfortuantley didnt. Carpark was full but not too many people sitting around or walking past on their phones for the tag to update its location.

Amazon has 18% off ($40) for single AirTags at the moment. I’d rather pay the extra for the accuracy.

      $40 is not a bargain.

      • $40 is not a bargain.

Where can you get one new for less than $40 today?

        • If you have no patience then you can go ahead and buy it today. But thats not what Ozbargain is about.

Airtag 2's are supposed to come before the end of the year, which means Airtags will inevitably go on sale soon.

  • Can anyone recommend a precise location android version.

Need one for keys and wallet.

    • +1

Only one available at the moment is the Mototags. It works but not very well - I have issues with the arrow appearing only sometimes.

    • Check AliExpress. Android ones are about $5 or less delivered. They use Android OS so no dodgy third party apps needed.

      https:// a.aliexpress.com/_msCwhhX

Paid $24.86 for 6 delivered using coins or coupons

  • What battery does it use? Replaceable built-in battery?
