Low price on this PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe SSD from Orico in the capacity of 2TB with a sequential read speed up to 7000MB/s and sequential write speed up to 6500MB/s. If you have one of the eligible cards you can get it even cheaper with an extra $10 off.

On the technical side this one is using YMTC 232 layer QLC flash with a Maxio MAP1602A controller and 1200TBW write endurance. Instead of DRAM cache it has HMB and around 464GB of pSLC cache. Given that's QLC it's better suited for a game drive.

Extra $10 off with eligible cards.

  • Thanks for the post! Was looking for drive for around $200 :)

I would strongly recommend the T500 2tb if you're willing to spend $200

      • +1

Oh f… already purchased I won't even look into T500 or buyer remorse will keep me awake at nights

  • +4

Purchased one of these back in December last year for $179.98 and put it in a Satechi M.2 enclosure for my MBPro M4 as main storage drive. I've been very happy with it, 3500MB/s Read & Write (limited by the Satechi).

    Klevv CRAS C910 @ 159
    Crucial P3 Plus @ 179

Why are people swooning over a QLC drive?
    What am I missing?

    • +9

Klevv CRAS C910, while TLC and DRAMless has a sequential read of 5200MB/s and sequential write of 4800MB/s. The Crucial P3 Plus is QLC, DRAMless and 5000/4200MB/s.

Camel (https://3cmls.co/AU/B0CQM3HG5S) says the price is inflated, just for the code to bring it lower

    • +1

So Camel teaches us that the average price is $220.20 and it goes on sale at $178.99. Either through a direct price drop or with coupons. In other words, it's back on sale and if you have an eligible card you can get it even cheaper.

i just find it funny how the manufacturers offset the horrible performance of QLC with pSLC cache, i guess there's an insane abundance of QLC flash but informed people probably wont touch it unless the price is insane

personally would use this as an external drive though for that snappy read times and not for main/constant transferring of files drive

  • Are we going to get anything decent for Prime Day, Amazon? C'mon, Hynix P41's were selling for roughly this price on Amazon for Prime Day 2 years ago.

    • Are they good? I really need to read up on NVMe drives…

      • +1

The Hynix P41 sits alongside the Samsung 990 Pro and WD SN850x within the premium SSD range of the market which utilise DRAM and TLC.

QLC is historically considered to be inferior to TLC, as it speed degrades more as the SSD fills up, and the SSDs lifetime is usually less than TLC.

These SSDs may be good for external drives, I guess DRAM could make it that you could lose data, however Hynix use DRAM in their T31 / X31 external drives - those external USB drives are fantastic BTW, they are really responsive and I think they are better than Samsung T7s.

The thing is, these SSDs listed on Amazon aren't what I called strongly branded SSDs and at the costs being asked. For some reason, when Amazon were entering the market, they were delivery really good deals in Computer Parts, but these have all but dried up really and there is less difference in quality now between this and what is on Ali Express.

        • Sigh. I miss the days of only needing to identify whether the drive was SLC or MLC.
Mind you, drives were stupid dollars per gigabyte back then so swings and roundabouts, I guess.

I use Samsung Evo/Pro and WD for internal drives. Didn't think necessary for external game storage.

I thought DRAM was good, DRAM-less bad and pSLC somewhere in-between but good for gaming drives.

Thanks for taking the time to explain it.

          • +1

@BinaryPirate: I think it's generally still the case that DRAM is better, e.g. the WD SN8100 still has DRAM and the SN7100 doesn't

Anyone got a recommendation for something similar but 4tb?

    • I'm keen to know as well…

    • NM790 (TLC, DRAMless) 4TB is a good option as mentioned above. Retails for $370ish now - it was as low as $260ish two years ago.

I will run a promo soon

        • Let us know 👍

        • Are there any updates/news about it?

          • +3

@silverduck22: you will see listing very soon, pretty much cover most of the VIC, NSW, WA channels
I have authorized the promo yesterday

            • @Lexar ANZ Chris: Fingers crossed for some nice promos on 2/4TB options.

              • +3

                @silverduck22: price I designed is nm790 2tb/4tb 183/335, nm990(gen5) 255/534.
but yeah, by law I can't really strictly enforce what price retailers sell.

                • @Lexar ANZ Chris: If I spot prices like that, I’m pulling the trigger for sure. Cheers, mate.

                  • @silverduck22: It's a shame that Scorptec has increased the price by $8 since last Friday. It wasn't $335 but $345 at that time, and now it's gone up to $353.

                    • @silverduck22: And there we go with markuptec going from 185 to 219 on the 2tb

                      • @silverduck22: Just seeing this now. Does this mean I've missed the promotion or is it the stores are not honouring the promo price?

                        • @itzinfinite: It isn't about honouring anything, since they never announced those prices. They were suggested by Chris from Lexar, but it never came up. Actually, as you can see from my post history, Scorptec marked up the prices 😅.
I'm also waiting for prices closer to the ones he suggested. Just HODL for now.

  • Decent for a games drive? I can only use pcie 3 till I upgrade down the line too

    • Yep, any modern drive is absolutely fine for games use - there's barely any difference in load times between the slowest and fastest SSDs 👍
