U7 Lite doesn't have 6 GHz even though it is Wifi7. It is only dual band.

      Edit: Specs

      • That’s a shame.
So what we really what is a Gen 7 NANO HD or something between the pro and lite

        • +2

I was thinking the same, but I have walls in my house, and am not planning on putting an AP in every room, so 6ghz seems useless to me

Been researching the UAPs for an upgrade (currently rolling with a UAP-AC-LITE that I've had for >10 years).

Got ChatGPT to put together the below table for me (with some additional modifications by me) with the data I'd already put aside.

Device Power LAN WiFi Standard WiFi Streams WiFi Bands Throughput
        U7 Pro PoE+ 21W 1/2.5 Gbps WiFi 7 6 streams 2x2 6 GHz 5.8 Gbps
        2x2 5 GHz 4.3 Gbps
        2x2 2.4 GHz 688 Mbps
        U7 Lite PoE 13W 1/2.5 Gbps WiFi 7 4 streams 2x2 5 GHz 4.3 Gbps
        2x2 2.4 GHz 688 Mbps
        U6+ PoE 9W 1 Gbps WiFi 6 4 streams 2x2 5 GHz 2.4 Gbps
        2x2 2.4 GHz 573.5 Mbps

Much easier to compare on official site here Select whichever APs you want to compare.

I have couple of U6 Pros and very happy with it. Don't need 6GHz yet.

Edit: Fyi. U7 Lite is good but has lower range, so keep that in mind.

          • @ace310: You're right, but I was gathering data as I am looking at utilising the PoE (without injectors), so have a spreadsheet going calculating the power supply and utilisation for the equipment I'm looking at using now and in the future.

            Currently have a USG-3P, USW-FLEX-Mini and UAP-AC-LITE.

Short term looking at getting a USW-FLEX for in the roof space (hence the flex with it's environmental protection) for a PoE doorbell (Reolink, for those wondering) and capacity for future cameras.

Want another AP near that switch, although that will probably be my AC-LITE and where it currently is I'll put a new one (and was tossing up between the U6+ and the U7 Pro - didn't personally see the point of the U7 Lite since it doesn't do 6GHz).

My whole setup probably needs considering since it's all sitting vertically (with my mini desktop PC) on a shoe rack on my kitchen bench. But then need to consider location (garage? study?) and method (mini rack?). Plus also looking at getting an FTTP upgrade (currently FTTC) so taking that into consideration also.

All long term since I'm not 🤑. But I like to do things "properly" (subjective, I know…).

@Chandler: U7 Pro has a fan if that matters. I recently jumped to unifi and got ucg-fiber & 3xU6 Pro(scored new on FB for $160/each)

              Was tossing between U7-Lite, U6-Pro or U7-Pro-xg

🔌 Note: Requires UniFi Controller. PoE injector not included.

If you have one of the newer Unifi devices (like the UCG Ultra), you won't need the standalone (controller) software. The interface works either via browser login or the rather useful Unifi app.

  • Anyone have experience as to whether it would actually be worth upgrading from standalone AP AC1200 Lites? For home use. NBN HFC 100/20

    • +1

For speed? Your current Lites technically are faster than your internet by quite a margin.

    • +4

100/20 boosts to 500/50 from September. AC Lite AP can do about 250Mbps to 500Mbps. Purchase a new AP if you change speed tiers and want faster Wi-Fi.

Old Speed Tiers New Speed Tiers nbn Technology Type
      100/20 500/50 FTTP and HFC
      250/25 750/50 FTTP and HFC
      1000/50 1000/100 FTTP and HFC
      2000/100 HFC
      2000/200 FTTP
      2000/500 FTTP

Thanks for the replies all that’s super helpful

  • Great value for upgrading from my WiFi5 AC-Lite.

A single AP can easily cover the whole building with plywood walls (around 240 sqM) in the suburb with not much noise in 5Ghz.

Even my current AC-Lite performs perfectly fine (500 Mbps) but gets slow sometimes to 200Mbps around the corners.

This one should have a huge improvement over AC-Lite due to increase in 2.4G and 5G antenna gains and also improved WiFi7 protocol.

It's also runs cooler and with almost half of the power consumption of U7 Pro.

If you care about your wallet and not after 6Ghz (Which I still can't really see a practical use case considering amount of devices that support it and the short range of coverage) this is a perfect choice.

And if you already have any U6 series. It doesn't really worth upgrading to me.

    • I'm in the same boat, struggling to justify the cost when the Wifi 5 works fine as is. I have two lites (upstairs/downstairs)

    • I agree with you both

Was on the fence between getting a pro(max) and then even considering the xg(s)

The lite does everything you want unless you have hundreds of concurrent clients and transferring large amounts of data across in which I would recommend hard cabling over wifi

Wifi 6ghz sounds nice but it’s new. Unsure about the stability and whether you just end up reverting to 2.4gh 5ghz.

Having said this, I’m still not sure even at this price if it’s a bargain

Same here… 3x U6 Lites controlled with a UDM Pro (original) and powered by a USW-48-POE. Would the lack of 2.5Gbe at the switch level be a constraint?

        • +1

U7 Lite cannot get beyond 1Gbps anyway with available channels in Australia.

  • I was able to get it down to $153.90 using the promo code PAYTO5 and using a PayTo payment method.

I think the promo is because it doesn't charge Amazon fees like Visa and Mastercard transactions.

  • +1

my problem with unifi is that my current WIFI 5 - AC pro and nano HD are still rock solid, pulling 400~500mbps
    very hard to justify upgrade

  • Currently showing as 193

  • Price is correct, but can't ship anywhere in Brisbane
