  • Why would anyone go for this when you have the Ryzen 7700?

Point me to where can I buy a LGA1700 socket to AM5 adapter, thanks in advance.

      • You'll find them in the same bin as AMD drivers ;)

    • Some people prefer Intel over AMD. Why not both?

      • Ok then why an i5-12600K when there are latter gens (13th, 14th) for this price too?

        • Intel's 13th and 14th generation Core processors, particularly i5, i7, and i9 models, have been affected by a microcode issue that can lead to system instability, including crashes and blue screen errors. This instability is linked to "Vmin Shift Instability," where the processor voltage can exceed recommended levels under certain workloads.

Intel has "apparently" patched it via microcode bios update, but a lot of people lost faith in those generations and thus the 12th gen are still quite popular.

The closest priced 13th and 14th gen I can find are the i5-13400 and i5-14400, which are basically downclocked versions of the i5-12600K and comes with a weaker iGPU. The 12600K is also an overclockable chip for those who like tinkering with their systems. The 12600K is better than those two.

The actual 13th/14th gen i5 CPUs with a decent uplift over the 12th are the i5-13600K and i5-14600K which come with larger cache and the newer Raptor Cove P-core microarchitecture. But those are around $100 dearer.

    • It's for people that already have a Intel motherboard.

    • I agree when it comes to gaming or general use but unfortunately AMD just isn't an option for Jellyfin, Plex, etc.

      • No? I'm using an AMD mini PC for Plex.

If you run a dedicated GPU it’s fine but yeah ideally you’d want just an Intel newish CPU so that you don’t need an nvidia gpu taking up pci slots and costing money to buy and run on electricity.

For me I had a spare GPU and an ancient cpu so I decided to repurpose those rather than buy new hardware.

I’d prefer something like this though tbh. But my weird setup works pretty well for me with a 4790k and RTX 2080 lol. I don’t have VMs running. Just Plex, Sonarr, Radarr, tautulli, sabnzbd etc

  • Currently showing $253.92 ,for me
