lucky
Thanks for letting us know.
i posted the deal and mine didn't even get shipped, good to know some people got it for free though haha
Sure you did.
Doesn’t prove you got it for free lol
@SaintKildaMan: Maybe i got it because i accidently paid full points for it (didnt notice they changed it back to normal points/price) but even then, qantas cancelled all the order. Asics must have fullfilled the full points order without knowing qantas cancelled it
Isn't $180 the normal price people pay for runners these days?
For a $250-280 range you can usually get them for $150 with cashbacks etc
Well, it depends on which shoes you are talking about. You can find $80 runners as well as $750 ones.
Nimbus normally sells for $270 if I'm not mistaken.Nah. This is the usual sale price (comes up a few times a year).
Asics and Brooks dont do much of discounts…addias and Nike …yes they are on sale most of the time…
Shoes with soles that feel like your feet are in clouds feels great, but (profanity) if I don't roll my ankle every five seconds when I walk in them. Not for me.
These are stable.
It is getting to the point that i trust no one but my own self lmfao
You need to see a Podiatrist if you're that weak in a stability neutral rocker
Not particularly relevant, but I recently bought a pair of Asics Gel-Quantum 360 VIII and they are seriously some of the greatest shoes I've ever owned.
$160 from JD sport?
Nah $200 from bricks & mortar. I wouldn't spend this kind of money on shoes online personally.
JD sport has brick and mortar stores in Aus btw
I own 1 and wish they have extra wide (4E).
They do come in 4e, i have a pair, can pretty much only get them direct from asics website though … and only in black
https://www.asics.com/au/en-au/gel-nimbus-27-4e-extra-wide/p…
there is one other colour option, limited sizes though
Yes for the Nimbus but not the Quantum 360 that @hinee was talking about.
I have around 400ks on the Gel Nimbus 26. They are a great shoe. This seems like a good price but it looks like no love for the 2E wide variants :(
I'm close to 1000km on my Nimbus 25s and reckon they'll do another 500km. Just a brilliant shoe.
Do you have odometers on your shoes? 😆
Running apps track your total distance with a shoe
Tell me you’ve never ran before without telling me you’ve never ran before
pretty good havne't even used the 26's yet, paid around 150-160 all said and done.
Great shoes and I'm almost due to replace mine but really hoping to get closer to $120. I was one of the few not quite quick enough on the Qantas "deal".
Still waiting for the gel Kayano 31s to drop under $200
Just found them for 182!! Literally looked yesterday and nothing under 209.
Bang
Nice, ahh yep i did see that website pace athletic i assume your talking about, forgot about them woops
Should be soon, considering Kayano 32 is coming.

This one is 180, I couldn't find my size though
Anybody got alternatives for different brands (Hoka, Brooks)? I'm sick of the terrible knit quality on the toe box. Have had both my 25s and 27s with holes in them after ~3 months use.
Me too - was able to get a full refund through online warranty claim.
I bought Saucony Surge 3 for walking and after 350kms the upper is like new as is inside the heel.
As such I have just ordered Saucony triumph 22 (Amazon $118 prime day deal atm) hoping they will have some good longevity (will use for both running and walking)
Saucony Triumph 23 came out recently and according to reviews, the 23s are lighter and softer similar to Triumph 20/21. Reviews on Triumph 22 is more mixed as it's heavier and firmer, but likely to be more durable. All the best with your purchase.
Did you put clean through store or directly through Asics ?
I had to go via online as it was a click and collect purchase.
When I went into the store (Melb CBD), the staff were very unhelpful.
Models directly competing with the Nimbus (i.e. max cushioning) would be the Brooks Glycerin, New Balance 1080, Saucony Triumph and Hoka Bondi I believe.
Puma Magmax ( i have, great shoe )
ASICS GEL-Nimbus alternatives in other brands:
Those are high-stack max cushion shoes. I'll probably rate Brooks higher in terms of durability.
Tons of options for max cushion shoes.
Hoka: Clifton 9/10
New balance: 1080v13/ 14, Fresh foam more v4/5
Nike: Vomero 18, invincible 3Any chance someone has used both the fresh foam more v4 and the gel nimbus and can comment on how similar/dissimilar they are?
I'm not a big runner by any means but jog regularly and the FFMV4 have been quite good but the footbed feels just a bit too soft to jog any faster on a creek trail I do.
The cushion on the gel nimbus 27 looks very similar overall but if it's the same/softer than the FFMV4 I will have to look for something else.
Fresh foam is more squishy/soft, FF blast + in the nimbus is bouncier but you don't sink in as much (still soft). I haven't checked weight, but I'd be certain the nimbus would be lighter than the More v4. I personally prefer the more responsive ride from FF blast +, especially as it feels like fresh foam compresses too much for my liking. Really comes down to personal preference, but I would say the nimbus is the better shoe.
However, I also personally prefer the novablast 5 way more than the nimbus. Much lighter and much more responsive, while still being soft and comfortable. RRP is also less than the nimbus.
Hoka skyward x is a great shoe.
I'd pay up.
But if you are a good runner get Adidas Prime x strung 2. Some deals around but you will get longer use than any other shoe justifying the price. If you want to spend less probably Adidas evo sl.
Saucony Triumph, Puma MagMax, Brooks Glycerin Max, New Balance 1080 are in the same class/style as the Gel-Nimbus.
Been hunting for Salomon xt6 to drop to a reasonable price but chat find anything. Different category to these but here's to hoping
Thansk Dave, saw that, was holding out for the non expanse version, cheapest is around the ~$200 for certain colourways
Are you after a specific colour or goretex model? The all white and black models don't go on sale too much but decent colourways often drop to $150 on Supply Store or Subtype but they go rather quickly so check often. Supply Store you'd have to pay shipping though.
thanks so much for that, never looked on supply store. After the white but know they wont go on sale, to be honest i like alot of the colour ways that arent too bright. will keen on the look out
Hey, Up There store has a couple on sale including like an all white one with bits of cream for $240 with extra 10% off or some other colourways for cheaper.
@Jasonissm: good looking out! thanks bud. Still too high for the moment but will be keeping my eye on it
This price on the 27s is great - I paid close to this for 26s the other week. They (the 26s) are great comfortable shoes suitable for post race runs and long walks - so cushioned and I find they still offer a decent planted feel. I have a moderately wide foot but the std 26 was fine - didn't need to go to 2E fitting - the Hoka Cliftons 2E I tried though I could just tell would have a bit of a pressure point on the edge of the big toe. You really need to try them first as the fit of each brand is quite different. The 27s sound from what I've read to be only an incremental change from the 26s but for this price why not.
Got the NB 1080s from the last deal, I guess I shouldn't buy this…
another pair couldn't hurt
I am trying to decide between the ASICS Gel-Kayano 31 and the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 27. Has anyone used both and can share which one is better for long distance runs?
They are both flagship models for easy cushioned long runs. Difference of these 2 models is Nimbus is for neutral feet and Kayano has stability elements that keeps runners where foot strike leans in/outwards.
Thank you, appreciate your response
What hippo said. It’s worth going somewhere that can tell you how your foot pronates just once so you know what shoes to get going forward.
Both shoes are great but they’re suited to different people.
Pretty easy to do. Head to a local store and sales dudes/dudettes can watch you from behind and watch. Or you have a friend or family with good eye.
Basically watch (record video with a phone) for after your foot lands, does your ankle and underfoot move laterally, separate from each other, leaning inward (foot bed move out and ankle in) or vice versa (Pronate or Supinate). Either case you might want some stability in your shoes. These stability support shoes typically have harder plastics built in to prevent undesirable movement.
IMO if you are neutral, it doesn't hurt to run in stability shoe but stability shoes tends to be heavier (and harder), but if you have weak ankles and use neutral shoes with less support, your ankles and knees might hurt more after runs.
I wore Kayano for a couple of years then moved to neutral now that I have built up enough of the right muscles and movement muscle memory to not need stability. My own experience YMMV.
Yes, I have already booked an appointment with The Athlete’s Foot, so I will learn what they recommend. I have worn the Gel Kayano 25 in the past without realising back then it was a stability shoe, along with other neutral Nike shoes. Interestingly, my average pace in the Nike shoes was faster than when running in the Kayanos and I used to wonder why. It could be due to the shoe weight but now I suspect I might have a neutral gait and that wearing stability shoes could be affecting my speed. Let’s see what I find out.
@MTam: If you have already ran in kayanos fine chances are the nimbus will be rubbish. At least that's my experience.
I picked up some nimbus for $69 years ago so had a crack. Gave me sore feet when running.
Never an issue with kayanos.
The nimbus were good for casual walking around though so not wasted.@DarwinBoy: I don't think it's a clear cut case of your experience of the 2 models, definitively makes Kayano better than Nimbus. His biomechanics might be different to yours. And even for the same person, myself as example depends on how much you run and whether you have built up the muscles can switch between support vs neutral.
My experience was Kayano is a safe bet as long as you are ok with it being what it is (heavier, stiffer sidewalls) even for neutral runner, but if you are capable using neutral it's a much better experience with a neutral.
@hippo2s: Thanks guys. I have already gone ahead and ordered my first pair of Nimbus, so I am quite excited about that. I plan to do some long runs in both the Kayano and the Nimbus to see which one works better for me.
@MTam: How long is your long run?
IMO a long run where a pair of easy run shoe will be beneficial is 10km+. Less than that you might as well just wear a daily.
I don't bother wearing my Nimbus on runs less than 15km. Usually 20km+
Hey how wide are these?
The ATC version (the one linked) runs half a size large. I ordered half a size down compared to standard Nimbus 27 and my usual Nike / Adidas. I wouldn't say these are wide, but they are a bit wider than your standard Nike Vomero / Peg etc.
Hey what is half a size large in letter size? I'm new to this and just learned my feet is 4E wide. I'm considering this but worry if will fit on width.
What I mean is that if you usually wear a size 12US, for example, I'd recommend you buy 11.5 US in these. They're a pretty standard width.
Just grabbed an ON Cloudrunner 2 last night for $150 shipped and this deal comes out… talk about tough luck. Parcel is already shipped so can't cancel :(
Why do they continue to use the name Gel? These look like foam to me. Do they contain any gel?
Yes they still do. They have reduced the gel pad size from a layer of the entire heel section (pre 20s). Down to now just a small puck embedded in the heel. Mostly because foams have come a long way, taking away the need for the gel pad.
This ATC version is the best looking running shoe on the market IMO. Just be aware that it runs half a size large, even compared to standard 27. Not sure why, but it does have a different upper material compared to the 27.
why is they so much gel in the suckers?
If you runners are looking for pure comfort in a lightweight shoe, suggest you try New Balance Rebel 4 or Adidas Adizero Evo SL … You won't look back.
Love the Rebel V4. That and the 1080v14 are my comfiest shoes by far.
Also love the V4, I bought a spare last week. V5 is looking too tamed to me.
Velocity Nitro 4 is looking good!
These are a solid recovery / easy run and walking shoes.
I normally put around 600/800kms before the soles goes. I've never had a problem with the tow box wear and my first pair was I think the 21/22's
I ran the uta 50 in the blue mountains in them and didnt role my ankles etc. (but def would not recommend for trail)
Great shoe.
Is there a consensus best current running shoe?
I just recently got back into running, and the last pair I bought was Asics Gel Kayano so I'm looking for a new pair.
That's like asking what's the single best flavor of ice cream.
Probably Superblast 2 for an all round do it all. But to be honest I find my 1080v14 the most comfortable of all, it is not a speedy shoe though.
I've ran in various kayanos. Tried nimbus once when very cheap. Gave me sore feet. I knew they were for different foot strikes but had to try them.
Fine for walking at least so not a total waste.
I've got a Supernova Stride and Boston 12, is this an overlap?
Boston 12 is a tempo daily. Supernova Stride is also a daily. I would say Nimbus can be your long/easy run shoe. Highly recommend going into a shop and try it out before ordering.
And for long walks in parks . What shoe is good?
I am currently using nimbus 25 for walks but sometimes get sore ankles .
Firstly I wouldn't recommend paying the premium for a serious running shoe. Would look at beginner tier with soft foam.
I personally use a pair of New Balance Arishi v4 ($79 from Amazon!) as my casual walk shoe. The FreshFoam midsole in them are like marshmallows! Capable of the occasional jog as well.
Nimbus being a serious tier running shoe is not really designed for walking. And it's a waste as you are paying a premium.
I paid $260 for the nimbus 25 and it was the best decision I've made this year. I couldn't be happier, so bloody comfortable.
How is arch support?
These shoes need thicker soles. I just wish they had thicker soles with more cushioning. Unless I'm running with actual pillows on my feet, what am I doing?
