  • I want these but Senn pricing in Aus is silly, even with the discount.

    • Only the professional gear that barely gets ordered. But at this price you're not trying to a monitor version of the HD 600 series, you're out dabbling in planars, even for reference (Audeze MM series).

Edition XS and HD 650/6XX are $200+ cheaper and largely match or exceed this in terms of resolution while sounding great, and the Arya Stealth can go close to $200 more while blowing it out of the water, then there's all near-to Summit-Fi stuff coming out of China just above that.

      • What's the Chinese Summi-Fi stuff? I suppose you mean like the Moondrop Cosmo? Anything else of interest?

        • -1

Several, I've mentioned them a few times.

        • Moondrop Horizon probably.

          it was just released.

people are comparing it to a HD600. saying it has HD490 Pro (this deal) highs, and HD600 lows (bass disappears under 100hz).

I saw this posted on reddit. seems like HD600 with no highs, which is how a reviewer just described it and gave it a D rating.

          • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: after reading up on it more. I might have been a bit harsh on the Horizon. key word might.

Horizon has angled drivers, apparently this means more distance away from your ear so better spaciousness, but it also makes positioning them on your ears more difficult. the angled drivers need to be pointing directly into your ears, which is less intuitive to do compared to normal straight drivers. so some of these later measurement posted by reviewers might be different.

tbh though when you think of HD600 with mids, highs and bass light sound. and you take away the highs like in Horizon, you end up with mostly mids. doesn't seem like it would sound good.

also Gadgetrytech review mentions distortion if you boost the bass. but I read this is the wrong way to do EQ with dynamic driver, you need to cut everything above the bass and raise the volume, and not boost the bass. the only headphones you can boost bass with is planar headphones.

      • Yeah, I have the edition XS, FT1, 158x and a few others just in wired. Love me some budget friendly audio. 3 new wired units this year,l so far, time to cool it.
