25c less than the last time I posted. being priced so low to begin with I guess you can't expect this to get any lower on sale.

some ozbers had a go at this headlamp for being cheap but,

friend has this and loves it. gets plenty bright for basic use (they use it when doing everything hands-free hobby/cosplay/sewing/cleaning) has an extremely wide beam that reaches to the edge of your vision, with decent battery life (friend says roughly 6 hours). wide beam [flood] makes it great for indoor use because you don't get that nauseous effect that a narrow beam [spotlight] has indoors.
(when you look at the wall the entire room gets bright, when you look down the hallway the entire room gets dark <—- with narrow [spot] beam this happens constantly as you move your head).
wide flood beam also does fine outdoors for walking except because it brightens left and right, it doesn't feel as bright when shining far into the distance.

USB-C rechargeable (I can confirm when I checked it out). when charging the light is red, when finished charging the light is bright green, which imo is great for spotting if it's finished charging from a distance or in the dark (some products just turn off the red light when charging is done).
motion on off mode, although friend says they never use it. it's a separate button press to turn on motion mode so it doesn't get in the way. they just put headstrap on then press the on/off button once to turn it on the normal way, turn it off with the same button before taking it off so they don't blast their eyes.

one negative for this Blukar headlamp is the Red light mode is quite dim doesn't get very bright on red ( I think one ozb said it's good for camping so you don't wake anyone up). well at least compared side by side with the Sofirn H35R ($28.79 ) that I got instead as a headlamp, the red light on H35R can get painfully bright. I don't use Red light but I assume brighter Red mode is better.

the Spot + Flood version is also on sale $16.99 for the version without motion sensor, $18.39 for the version that has motion sensor option

I recommend clicking these links before buying, because when you search they all look like the same product and you might order the wrong one to what you wanted. all linked models are USB-C.

their Blukar flashlight also on sale for $16.99. although I heard this one isn't so good, you get a discolored edge around the light which is kind of distracting. ymmv.

  • Costume play with headlamp?

Sorry I'm confused at the difference between the normal one and the spot + flood version?

    • +1

the normal one is the widest beam imo. the Spot+Flood versions seem to use a normal flashlight LED, together with a box of 6 LED but it's stacked 3 on 3 LED in a square. I don't think Spot+Flood versions will be as wide in flood mode, but the Spot flashlight LED will likely reach further into the distance, if you need that option. Wide beam doesn't reach the furthest in distance, because it lights up near you more and ruins your night vision with contrast.

the one in the deal link with (108 clicks) next to it, is the normal one. it's got the LED's at the front in a line. I think it will be the widest beam it reaches to the edges of your vision. my friend recommends it.

the other prices with blue link towards are the other models. one is Spot+Flood (without hand motion on/off sensor), the link right after is Spot+Flood (with Hand motion sensor).

the last blue price link is for the flashlight, not headlamp. hope it explains it.

no it gets more than bright enough. I commented this somewhere but can't find it atm.

I compared it side by side with my Sofirn H35R.
it's slightly dimmer than Sofirn's medium 450lm, so I would say the Blukar is 300lm on max, and 150lm on low. edit: tried to keep it simple, I think my estimate will be very close if anyone else compares it with their other torch at specified brightness level.
for around the house I only use the Sofirn's 60lm, and 450lm levels. since I got it I used the 800lm once because i wanted to see if there was dust in the air.

the Blukar will be fine for use around the house, looking in your yard at night, or even walking the dogs after dark. if you are intending to use it to trek up a mountain, at the beach at night, or some serious use case such as paramedic/rescue worker, you will probably be looking to spend more and get something proper.

the only issue might be because Blukar is such a wide beam of light, outdoors it doesn't appear as bright because it lights up your surroundings more than it does far in the distance. due to contrast in dark surroundings, this makes looking into the distance appear not bright enough.
if you want to see far in the distance at night you should be buying a more focused narrow (Spot) headlamp that gets brighter.

I think you are probably thinking of $15 ones sold at bunnings which come with 2 half dead AAA batteries. those ones are probably only 15lm to 30lm in brightness.
I don't recommend the AAA battery ones.

the Blukar has a lithium battery inside rechargeable by USB-C. lithium has a higher voltage so it can get brighter. if you think it is close to 0 lumens I dare you to look into the LED's while it's on. you can't it hurts your eyes which is why my friend is careful about it, they have a routine now which order they put on the headstrap and turn it off before they take the strap off.

  • What's the UX on these to switch between nodes? Do you have to cycle through a white mode before getting to red? Or double click for red ?

    • yes have to cycle through white to get to red. it can be done quick though, face it away and like 3 quick presses.

when I tested it against my H35R the Blukar works like this
Press On button as fast as you want within first 4~5 seconds->[White>White low>Red>Red blink]
if you wait over 5~6 seconds before another press, pressing the button once turns it off.

also I already mentioned it but Red light on Blukar isn't exactly bright and only one brightness level.

      • Yes, the H35R's max red levels are extremely bright. I went for the H05 as it was simpler to get to the red mode. Still, this is an exceptionally detailed post, well done.

Nice write up, thanks for providing the details and experience with it.

I tried my best, because first time I posted it with a quick copy paste of marketing, had a lot of nasty comments calling it junk/landfill and recommending a completely different design headlamp which was like $50.

I get it there are flashlight enthusiasts who think they know about a better headlamp product, but for the rest of us who want one just for basic use, this Blukar is great value.

  • Thanks, needed a good lightweight travel torch for the hostel, using the red light to find things in the dorm is handy. Can't use my Sofirn headlamp as it'd be way too bright

    • +1

just want to point out just incase you missed it in comments. Blukar red light isn't very bright.

but that might be a good thing if you don't want to wake others in your dorm.

  • Got this delivered this morning - tried it out in the back yard just now and it illuminates the entire yard quite well.

The sensor thing works well, but bringing my hand up to trigger it I got a lot of light reflected straight into my eyes off my hand, this reduced my night vision for a few seconds and I thought the lamp wasn't doing a good job at all until my eyes re-adjusted.

    • The sensor thing works well,

yeah it did too when I tried it. but friend says it's not so great after awhile. can randomly trigger itself on or off. sometimes they left it on sensor mode, forgot and got blinded when they picked it up again. etc. so they just stopped pressing that separate button, and only use the regular on/off. ymmv.

      • When I was trying it outside I walked toward a window and it just turned off - just a bit too sensitive I think.

        • yeah it was probably the movement your reflection.

friend said they could be walking fast down the hallway, and it will think a shelf you passed is your hand, and it turns off.

  • Excellent post. Thank you.

As a camper/hiker, you don't want or need the red light mode too bright. It's used in dark or no lighting where your eyes have already adjusted to the dark. Red light mode is great for those situations. Nothing more obnoxious or rookie than beaming a 1000 lumen white light into someone's face

    • I hear Red light is also gentle for animals eyes. so less likely to disturb wild animals. don't know if true or not.

than beaming a 1000 lumen white light into someone's face

not just in your face, but I can imagine even coming down the path from a distance, a super bright area in the distance can ruin the vision of a person without a flashlight because affecting your nightvision and also the contrast makes it harder to see everywhere else that isn't lit up. 💁‍♀️

    • Have you used this for camping or hiking? Seeking feedback.
I need to replace a more expensive headlamp that recently stopped working. It was great as it had both spotlight and a wide beam but cost 7x more.

Spotlight was great for spotting and the wide beam perfect for illuminating your dinner plate and not blinding people at camp. Does this have similar?
      @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm

      • probably better to get something with a higher max brightness just incase you need it.

when you hike I can imagine you needing to see far as well as close, so the Blukar with it's wide beam and 300lm brightness won't light up the end of a path or through the trees.

  • Does anyone know if the lithium battery is replaceable?

    • if you are asking is there is a lid you can open and swap the battery no.

but one day after like 3 years if it stops working. you can replace the battery on anything can't you? just carefully open it up, take it out order something from aliexpress that will fit. glue it back closed.

I have never done it before, because I don't have soldering skills. but plenty people I know have replaced "non replaceable" batteries in all kinds of stuff, such as bluetooth speakers.
