  • Does anyone know the difference between this series, and the Philips Norelco series of Multigroomers? The Norelco has much higher amazon ratings and in the thousands. What's different?

    • +6

I think norelco is the US name of the same product.
Check if battery life is the same across both models.

I have the previous 7000 series model from 6yrs ago. And still
Going strong. Battery life on older model was 5 hrs per charge and cams with charger.

      • +1

Yeah the old model is unreal. I gotta get a new blade for mine otherwise battery is a machine, could go another 5 years easy.

Anyone know best place to get new blades for these

        • +2

I could do with a new blade, and more importantly a new 2mm guard. I had a look for replacements and both are either quite expensive or hard to find…

          • +7

@OfTheOverflow: I purchased the MG7770 model a few years back. It was one that didnt come with the adjustable comb, so I got it separately from this site. Just plug the model number into the search to see what they have for your model.

            https://www.statewideapp.com.au/search?q=mg7770/

            • +1

@cimrak: Great find, mate! I’ve been trying to find the adjustable comb for years!

          • @OfTheOverflow: Worth trying a rub on a stone, dismantle and rub the ground surface. Worked a treat for me.

        • maybe on aliexpress

        • +1

I took a blade apart, gave it a rub on a diamond stone (or a whetstone) and it cuts like new. Worth a shot.

      • +1

my old model died after two years

    • +1

norelco is the premium one but it’s basically the same, i think it has a metal build

      • +3

the norelco one was like around $80 end of last year via amazon us i remember posting it

    • I have the Norelco stainless steel model, and I don't use it that often, just a beard touch up here and there, but I don't think I've ever charged it ha.

  • +1

    Got one cheers

I posted a deal for this a few months ago and don’t recommend. I bought it as it had good reviews and was supposed to be a good all in one for beards. Sadly I didn’t find this to be the case. The head of the shaver is small and is time consuming to shave. I didn’t find it very powerful and kept getting caught in my beard hairs.

Most major complaint was with Amazon as they don’t accept returns for this for any reason. I’d avoid.

    • Agree. I bought this couple of months back. Not happy.

    • Got this yesterday to replace an old beard trimmer. Takes roughly 3x longer. Definitely not what I was expecting with such positive reviews.

      • Any recommendations.?

        • I went from one of these to a Wahl Li-ion. So much more grunt, easier to clean and readily available spare parts.

          • @RipperOB: Which one? I'm really not convinced with these Philips. I think the durability and quality goes down every generation.

    • If anyone is worried about it's performance, Phillips offer a 90 Day Money Back Guarantee if you're not happy (besides return shipping)

Terms are linked in the description, all you need to do is fill out a form on there site: Image Here

And you've payed it off after only 3 basic haircuts :)

I started cutting my own hair during covid with a corded model, its 100% worth the investment for cordless imo.

    • +11

Get a proper one for haircuts this is for basic grooming.

      • +2

I've been using a $20ish corded Wahl for just cutting hair.
That gets the job done (albeit a bit inconvenient w/ a cord by myself)

This should be fine for haircuts right?

        • +1

          Username checks out!

    • +1

How did you learn to cut your hair?

      • +10

Step 1: Buy a cap that will cover all your hair 😂 (just in-case)

Step 2: I watched a few youtube videos, they really helped. You need a hand held mirror as well, to cut the back.

It's just cutting the back of your head that's really time consuming and difficult by-yourself. I recently ordered some hair cutting guides of Ali that should help a lot here: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/444674/122822/screen_s…

        • +1

          Nice one cheers

        • +4

User name checks out after cutting back of head 🤪

      • +1

        360 mirror, the best thing.

  • +2

I bought this earlier this year and it stopped working after 3 months. The light came on when charging but it wouldn't turn on. Amazon gave me a refund thankfully, but now it's e-waste. It did the job nicely when it did work though.

    • Any idea how long warranty you get? I'm buying this to replace a different shaver that died after 3 months but I lost the receipt from shave store

      • Probably the standard one year?

        • Older 7000 series came with 5 yrs warranty.

      • +1

probably one year, but since it’s amazon and if you have decent amount of orders and a prime membership they’ll refund you whenever as usual

  • +3

I have this and I would not recommend. It doesn’t cut close to the skin, and the attachments leave an uneven mess. Maybe I’m not doing it right but it's way too easy to mess up

    • if you want it to cut closer to the skin you need to put the other attachment on that it comes with

    • Agree, same experience here.

  • I remember 9000 is the only one made of metal. Is that still the case?
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Philips-Stainless-Self-Sharpening-…

  • Geez… bought it for $97 last week.

    • return it and reorder :)

  • +1

Best thing i ever bought, dry shaving i can't go back from

    • Better than a knife and fork?

      • +2

        Just barely

  • How does this compare to Philips All-in-One Series 3000, Multigroom which is purchased for $30 at Shavershop 4 years ago and still going strong

    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/philips-multigroom-series-30…?

    • +1

i’ve had both and they’re pretty much the same except my 3000 switch broke after a month of use. The 7000 may be a faster blade but probably placebo, either way not worth an upgrade if yours is working fine

      • Thanks,. Phillips offers 12 months warranty so I hope you received a replacement.

  • is it also good for head hair cutting/styling ?

    • Yes, that's the main reason id buy it for. From comments, it's not ideal for beards though

  • Why not. Ordered one

  • Good all rounder.

    Three ‘blade’ widths.

One super narrow, one normal for beard work, and a wider one that you can also use for beards but is primarily included for cutting your head hair (using the wider attachments).

Main wish is that it would cut a little closer to the skin without a guard but is otherwise a solid product from my experience.

  • +1

I’ve had the old and the new model. Battery on the old one lasted much longer (basically double). Unfortunately after 4 or so years it died and wouldn’t turn on so had to replace with this one.

  • +1

I have the old model and it’s still going strong, but I couldn’t ignore this deal. After 20$ off for First App Purchase and 5% off PayTo, the price drops to $53.72. What a deal

    • Whats the $20 off app first order? Is there a code needed for this or applied automatically?

  • +1
    • That's top model with the metal handle

  • +3

Surprised to see such mixed feedback. I've got the 7000 series model MG7770 (think it's mainly just attachments that differentiate the model numbers) and it's great. However It might be the model variants. I do note that in these cheaper/newer models they've changed the guard designs. I don't like the variable adjustable guards - think they're pretty average and prefer to use set mm ones.

Have been using it for ~18 months with no issues. Shave weekly - Use the wide blade for a full head shave and trim my beard using variety of guards.

Only minor niggle was it doesn't shave super close if you're using it unguarded for upper cheeks/neckline (however that's in comparison to Wahl's that are triple the price).

  • reviews dont seem great

  • +2

Why so many up votes? So many poor reviews and comments in this post.

  • Not USB-C?

  • Love mine, the metal MG7775. One of the best purchases I made (after my Xiaomi robot vac). Battery is still awesome after five years, blades are still sharp. Highly recommended.

I’ve warrantied the detail/close shaver blade (the one with the metal mesh, not the regular one) twice due to the mesh wearing out. Five year warranty was great.

  • Any good trimmer option from Philips?
Seems like this has got more negative than positive feedbacks.

  • Ive used the previous model and had 3 of them die in the span of 5 years. The last one lasted the longest (2 years) just enough time to be out of warranty. They just suddenly stop working, no lights, no charging when the day prior it worked fine. Its still a good trimmer, but I've got a Wahl trimmer now, cut is roughly the same as the 7000 and it feels cheaper as its not as weighty, just hope it lasts longer than 2 years.

  • +1

Should I get this? or oneblade 360???

    • +2

Don't get the one blade even though it is popular here. I have to go over it again and again just to have it fully shaved it's time consuming and it doesn't feel smooth.

      • +1

Seconded, I don't understand why the oneblade is so popular - it's been a terrible shaving experience for me, takes forever to trim and not very comfortable.

        • Thrice. I purchased because people raved about it on here. Massive disappointment.

  • Given it is Prime deal, can we price match at JB HiFi ?

  • -2

Thanks, had a look and ended getting this one:
    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0DNS5L26B

  • Is it worth paying extra for the metal body version?

  • +1

The added 90-day Philips money-back guarantee makes it low risk, especially with some mixed feedback on beard trimming performance.

  • +2

    Serious question. Good for ballsack?

  • +2

Hope this will bring back my beauty on the cheap. But I believe my $5 Xiaomi trimmer should still work and be somewhere in my home.

    • I have used that for more than 2 years. It has been great, but recently has been bothering me. Thinking of buy something new

  • Any ideas what to add to the cart to make it to $80?

  • I need one for beard trimming (down to a 1 or 2) but based on the reviews this isn't the right one

  • I was going to buy the above one, but actually ended up purchasing this which has much better overall reviews ($91 with NAB card):

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BQN79PH9

    • I'm so confused, but nice find I think?… that's a model not sold in Australia, & it's not sold by Amazon AU, but by a store called 'bigw" using BIGW's logo. However, the store is selling products that are clearly for Americans… (their other lisitngs use metrics like ounces, say TSA and a bunch of other US terms…)

& Big W themselves (on their site) dont stock that… I think its a US based store thats faking/stolen big W's identity lol

      • +4

You helped me become confused, too

        • +2

Well there is a few positive reviews from 'Australia' - I'd say give it a go, it seems to be located in AU based on a 17th July delivery estimate (from Amazon).

As other comments said above, the Norelco brand is just how they're named in USA, for mostly the same products. I don't reckon you'll be covered by Phillips / Aussie warranty if that's a concern, as its not an AU model
